Officer who died just weeks away from graduating police academy laid to rest
Officer Braydon Butler died from injuries sustained in an off-duty accident on April 13, the Barrow County Sheriff's Office announced.
The BCSO posted the following statement on their Facebook page: 'Today, we celebrate the life of William Braydon Butler. A man whose generous spirit and servant heart touched everyone he knew. Braydon loved to serve God and others first, and his unwavering faith was evident in everything he did.
Anyone who knew Braydon knew he was a shining light, always eager to lift others up and bring hope through his kindness and compassion. He truly wanted to make a difference in the lives of those around him, and he did so effortlessly, with love and humility.
Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Braydon has been welcomed into the arms of our Lord. In true Braydon fashion, even after death, he continues to serve others. His legacy of love, faith, and service will forever inspire us.
Rest in peace, Braydon. Your light will never fade, and your spirit will always remain with us."
The BCSO said Butler was hired as a detention officer and was on a path to becoming a deputy sheriff.
'Braydon worked hard and was only four weeks away from graduating the Northeast Georgia Police Academy along with several other Cadets but tragically his life ended,' the BCSO said.

You killed him,' and they were going to beat us with their hands. I mean, they were going to kill us. And respectfully, the Secret Service had bigger issues [than] protecting us. When he jumped up triumphantly, it saved us." Nonetheless, he said, "I can't eliminate from my mind's eye the look in their faces. That's what America is right now. It's not rational. It's an irrational thought to think the media shot somebody from the top of a building, but the lack of rationality is what connects January 6 to this." 'Devoted' Mother Dies Trying to Save Her Drowning Son at North Carolina Beach: 'Act of Profound Heroism'
NEED TO KNOW A "devoted" mother died while trying to save her drowning son The bodies of Shaunna Jernigan, 35, and her 14-year-old son, Timothy Jernigan, were recovered after the drowning incident at Bertie Beach in North Carolina on July 9 Shaunna's 11-year-old daughter was rescued from the water during the tragic incidentA woman, described by her family as a "devoted mother" and "compassionate friend," died while trying to save her drowning son. The bodies of Shaunna Jernigan, 35, and her 14-year-old son, Timothy Jernigan, were recovered after a drowning incident at Bertie Beach in North Carolina on July 9, according to a statement from the Bertie County Sheriff's Office (BCSO). Officials responded to a report of someone drowning at 5:41 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, first responders discovered that the mother-and-son pair were drowning, the statement said. Shaunna's 11-year-old daughter was rescued from the water during the incident. The victims were about 150 yards from the shore. "Life-saving measures were done on the mother and son, but unfortunately, they didn't survive," officials said. The 11-year-old girl claimed in an initial statement to officers that she and her mother were floating on an inflatable while her brother was swimming. She said Timothy "could no longer feel the bottom of the beach and became distressed." Shaunna then entered the water to rescue her teenage son and "also became distressed," the girl added. "Our community mourns with the family and friends of the victims," the sheriff's office said. "The family, friends, our community and first responders need your prayers during this difficult time. Resources have been made available to the family and first responders." Shaunna was described as "a devoted mother, compassionate friend and cherished member of her community" in her obituary. "Shaunna's tragic demise came during an act of profound heroism, as she attempted to save her beloved son, Lil Tim, from drowning. They are now reunited in eternal peace," the obituary read. Shaunna, who worked as a first responder with Bertie County EMS, is survived by two children, her husband, and her mother and sister. Timothy, nicknamed Lil Tim, was an incoming freshman at Bertie High School, according to his obituary.
