‘Dendoncker is far too passive': Former Belgian international critical of on loan Aston Villa midfielder
Anderlecht were second best to city rivals Union St Gilloise this weekend. The side lost the Brussels derby 2-0 as their poor start to the play-offs continue. Besnik Hasi's men are yet to win a game in the post-season. During the weekly Extra Time show, former Belgian international midfielder Franky Van der Elst was not impressed by on loan midfielder Leander Dendoncker. The former player said of Dendoncker's role in the opening goal 'I think Dendoncker is far too passive after Thorgan Hazard lost the ball. You can't lose the ball like this, but okay. Then you're number 6 and you're still in front of the ball. While the ball is lost 10 metres in front of him. Then you have to sprint a little to cover that zone. But he walks past the ball'.

It has been reported for some time now that Anderlecht are highly unlikely to pick up the purchase option they have as part of the deal that saw Dendoncker join them on loan. He has played 35 times for the club, with one goal and one assist. However, there haven't been enough standout performances that could justify the amount the club would need to pay to bring him in permanently.
His future is certainly up in the air when he returns to England, as he is clearly not part of Unai Emery's plans for Aston Villa going forward.

Aston Villa Reach Out To Porto For Their Striking Sensation: Why They Must Intensify Their Interest
If a recent report from The Daily Mail is believed to be true, Aston Villa reached out to Porto for Samu Aghehowa. But any potential deal won't be cheap, as the club president André Villas-Boas would only entertain an offer in the north of £55m for their striking sensation. The 21-year-old Spanish international progressed through the academy ranks of Sevilla, Nervión and Granada before representing the latter's reserves in the lower division. His exquisite scoring record earned him a €6m transfer to Atletico Madrid. But the Spanish giants loaned him out to fellow La Liga side Alaves for regular gametime. While he was close to joining Chelsea last summer, the move did not materialise due to a failed medical and image rights complications. Porto secured his services a few weeks later, and the youngster proved to be an instant success in Portugal with 27 goals in 45 outings across competitions [stats via Transfermarket]. Aston Villa have not shifted their gear so far this window beyond securing three teenagers in Zépiqueno Redmond, Yasin Özcan, and Modou Kéba Cissé, along with veteran Marco Bizot to succeed their previous 'number 2' Robin Olsen. They were also under scrutiny amid PSR concerns; however, the management handled those issues by selling their women's team to a related entity. (Photo by) Yet they must stay cautious and keep close tabs on the balance sheet to be compliant with the Premier League's regulations. Failing to secure a Champions League berth did not help them either, and the fear of losing Ollie Watkins has forced them to explore the available and affordable alternatives who could spearhead their attack. Why Aston Villa Should Prioritise Aghehowa Over Openda Watkins has emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United, who are desperate to redeem their lost glory by roping in Premier League-proven stars. Villa prefer to keep hold of their prized asset but might sanction the 29-year-old Englishman's exit if the right offer arrives. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, available on a Bosman, has been on their wishlist. But the former Everton centre-forward would be brought in as a back-up, regardless of Watkins' future. Aghehowa is not the only 'number 9' the Lions are chasing this summer. RB Leipzig's Lois Openda has been in talks with them for months, but the German heavyweights might block any move, with Benjamin Šeško being on Newcastle and Man United's radar. Despite the hefty price tag, the Porto prospect would be more economical, given the current striker merry-go-round in Europe, and the Spain connection could see him flourish further under the tutelage of Unai Emery.

Aston Villa summer arrival Yasin Ozcan joins Anderlecht on loan with an option
Aston Villa defender Yasin Ozcan has joined Anderlecht on a season-long loan with an option to buy, just a month after arriving at Villa Park. Villa signed Ozcan, 19, from Turkish club Kasimpasa on a pre-contract agreement in February and he joined up with Unai Emery's squad on July 1, having agreed a long-term deal until 20230. Advertisement The Athletic reported back in January that the transfer was worth €7million (£5.83m; $7.22m) upfront, with a further €1m in possible add-ons. But a month later, Ozcan has signed on loan for Anderlecht, and he could leave Villa without making a single competitive appearance for Emery's side – if the Belgian club take up their option to make the move permanent in summer 2026. Ozcan made his professional debut aged 16 in 2022, coming on as a substitute in Kasimpasa's 4-0 defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir. He made 34 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig last season, scoring once, and made his debut for the Turkish national team in June. Analysis Ozcan was scouted by Villa's recruitment team, possessing the hallmarks of a modern day centre back who can adapt within different formations. He can also play left back and has been capped by Turkey. So, in theory, if he was not going form a part of Unai Emery's immediate plans, then a loan was always likely. The greater interest, though, is that Anderlecht have an option to buy. Considering Ozcan only joined a month ago, this is representative of Villa attempting to flip young, cheap players quickly and for profit, in turn assisting with PSR compliance.

'Recent contacts'- Journalist reveals Chelsea ace Newcastle have made contact with, it's not Jackson
Newcastle have made contact with Axel Disasi recently and the Frenchman is on their recruitment list according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. Disasi is one of a number of players the Blues are looking to move on this summer, and he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. The 27-year-old made ten appearances in all competitions as Unai Emery's side missed out on Champions League football on the final day of the season. Newcastle make contact with Axel Disasi Disasi had a good debut season under Mauricio Pochettino having joined in a deal worth around £39m From Monaco in the summer of 2023. However, it was evident pretty quickly he wasn't going to be a major part of the plans under Enzo Maresca, and made just six Premier League appearances over the first half of the season, with three as starts. The loan spell at Villa wasn't the best and it appears they won't be signing the defender permanently, with it thought Disasi wants to remain in the Premier League. Aston Villa are unlikely to sign Disasi permanently. (Photo by) Chelsea are thought to value Disasi at €35m, and the likes of Villarreal and Juventus have been linked, whilst in the Premier League Newcastle are said to have shown interest. It was reported earlier this summer the Magpies were leading the race for Disasi, and Tavolieri has provided an update. He took to and said: 'After resolving the tricky striker situation with Sesko/Wissa & Alexander Isak, Newcastle United is now planning to sign a central defender! 'Recent contacts have taken place with Axel Disasi, and the Frenchman is included on the Magpies' recruitment list. More info soon. #NUFC #CFC' Chelsea still trying to sell Veiga Disasi isn't the only defender set to leave Chelsea this summer, with the Blues are also trying to offload Renato Veiga despite only signing him last summer. Veiga spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus, and Chelsea are said to have set their asking price at €40m.
