Former Malegaon MLA defends Aurangzeb
Nashik: Former Malegaon MLA Asif Shaikh on Sunday said Aurangazeb was a holy person who earned his living and respected all religions and communities.
He was addressing the media on the sidelines of a conference on
Waqf Board
, organised by the minority defence committee, in Malegaon.
When asked about his views on Aurangazeb, Shaikh said, "Aurangazeb was a noble person and he lived his own life. He earned his living by stitching caps.
" He added, "Aurangazeb respected people from all communities and religions. It is to grab votes that he is being defamed in Maharashtra."
Shaikh also said the Muslim community resisted pressure tactics by groups like BJP-RSS, resulting in the community being defamed by associating it with controversial issues such as providing shelter to Rohingyas or Muslims from Bangladesh, or property grabbing under the name of the Waqf Board.
"In the meet, the speakers and learned people from across the state emphasised how legal fights should be initiated to defend the community on all fronts," Shaikh said. The conference discussed the importance of the Waqf Board and the proceeds from these properties to be used for the welfare of the poor.
One speaker highlighted that the state has over 1.2 lakh properties, and even if 25% were well developed by trustees, the earnings could help eradicate poverty within the community. Mustaqueem Dignity, one of the coordinators, said the speaker also dispelled concerns that some temples and lands were being claimed by the Waqf Board. "By the land belonging to the Waqf Board, it only meant that the properties of people living there were not to be annexed, but that the revenue earned from them be used for the development of the deprived," he added.

Mayawati said that parties should rise above their narrow thought and avoid tampering with the Constitution. BSP supremo also said that politics in the name of language going on in many states of the country is not good. "All languages should be respected," she said. On the issue of voters list controversy in Bihar, Mayawati said the Election Commission should clarify its position and the political parties should be taken into confidence before launching any new decision. Reacting on the rape of a student in Kolkata, she said that women are not completely safe anywhere in the entire country, including West Bengal. In this matter too, the central and all state governments must pay attention, she said. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said here today that, 'Those opposing reservations are also opposing socialism and secularism words in the Constitution. The BJP had opposed these principles since its inception. Today, they continue spreading hatred because they cannot attack the Constitution directly. So they oppose secularism and socialism instead.' Congress says the BJP is delaying implementing 27% OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being against the Backward Classes, the Congress on Saturday (June 28 2025), alleged that the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has been wilfully delaying passing on the benefits of 27% reservation in State government jobs and institutions despite a law enacted by the State Assembly. The party demanded immediate implementation of 27% reservation for the OBCs in Madhya Pradesh as it has been categorically cleared by the Supreme Court of India as well. Addressing a press conference at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, senior party leaders, including former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, AICC in-charge for Madhya Pradesh Harish Chaudhary, MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari, and the head of the Congress's OBC department Anil JaiHind, said the delay in implementing the reservation is revealing the State government's anti-reservation and anti-Backward Class mindset. Mr. Chaudhary said in 1994, the Congress government had provided 14% reservation to the OBCs and subsequently, in 2003, proposed the quota to be raised to 27%. However, since then, the BJP has been in power in the State and it never took any decision to implement the decision. When the Kamal Nath government was formed in December 2018, it brought an Ordinance to provide 27% reservation for OBCs in 2019. 'The BJP challenged it in court, which then directed that a law be enacted on the matter. We subsequently got the Bill passed in the Assembly. But the BJP formed the government again, and it did not implement the reservation,' Mr. Chaudhary said, adding that the pleas against the 27% quota were by the High Court and the Supreme Court as well. Chhattisgarh issue Mr. Baghel said that the Congress government in Chhattisgarh had unanimously passed a law in December 2022 for providing 27% reservation to the OBCs, but the Bill is still to get the nod of the Governor. 'This is because the BJP does not want to provide 27% reservation to the OBCs,' the former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister said. 'We will not only fight the issue legally, but will raise it publicly to build pressure on the BJP government to implement it,' he added. Mr. Patwari said that it was strange that Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he belonged to the OBCs but was not providing the community its rightful due. 'The OBC Chief Ministers of MP belonging to the BJP, including Uma Bharti, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav, have all betrayed their own community,' he said.

Waqf law protest likely to draw large crowd today
1 2 Patna: Patna is set to witness a major mobilisation on Sunday as Muslims from across the country are expected to gather at Gandhi Maidan to voice strong opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The event, titled 'Waqf bachao, dastoor bachao conference', is being organised by Imarat-e-Shariah, which operates in Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. The newly enacted waqf law by the NDA-led central govt is currently under legal scrutiny in the Supreme Court. Critics argue it undermines religious autonomy, infringes upon fundamental rights and violates established legal principles and Supreme Court judgments. "The aim of the conference is to raise a united and dignified voice against the recently enacted Waqf Act, 2025, which is widely seen as trampling upon the Islamic principles of waqf," said a press note issued by the organisers. Fazle Rahma Rahmani, media convener of Imarat-e-Shariah, said, "We cannot give an exact number, but the mobilisation teams have estimated a turnout of around 10 lakh. People are coming not because of prominent personalities, but to register their absolute rejection of the Act." He added that the headquarters of the Imarat-e-Shariah at Phulwarisharif, Patna, is coordinating the effort. "Maulana Ahmad Wali Faisal Rahmani is the chief organiser. Separate mobilisation teams were formed for Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha," he added. Participants began arriving in Patna from Saturday morning. Arrangements have been made for their accommodation in mosques, dharmashalas and community halls across the city. Volunteers will assist with crowd movement and logistics throughout Sunday. "The conference represents a peaceful, democratic and constitutional expression of the community's collective will to demand the rollback of the draconian legislation," the organisers said, adding that the event also carries significant political messaging.
