‘Angry Birds Movie 3' Set for 2027 Release by Paramount
Paramount takes over as distributor from Sony Pictures, which released the first 'Angry Birds Movie' from Rovio Animation in 2016, grossing $352 million worldwide. The film yielded a 2019 sequel that didn't fly nearly as high with $152.2 million, though insiders at Paramount say that the films have seen robust viewership on streaming over the past five years.
Rovio returns as producers on the film with Sega, which acquired Rovio and 'Angry Birds' in 2023 and which has partnered with Paramount on the 'Sonic the Hedgehog' films. Namit Malhotra will also produce through his company Prime Focus Studios, in partnership with Flywheel Media, One Cool Group, andDentsu. DNEG, the animation studio behind 'The Garfield Movie,' 'Nimona' and the upcoming 'The Cat in the Hat,' will animate the film.
Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom and Danny McBride are set to reprise their roles as the birds Red, Chuck, Silver and Bomb. Joining them is an ensemble voice cast that includes Emma Myers, Keke Palmer, Tim Robinson, Lily James, Marcello Hernandez, Walker Scobell, Sam Richardson, and Nikki Glaser.
John Rice, director of the first 'Angry Birds Movie,' will return and direct from a screenplay by 'Angry Birds Movie 2' director Thurop Van Orman.
The return of 'Angry Birds' to the big screen comes as video game films continue their rise at the box office. As Universal and Illumination plan a sequel to their $1.36 billion hit 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie,' Paramount has enjoyed continue success with the 'Sonic' films, whose third installment grossed $491 million worldwide. 'Sonic 4' is also on Paramount's 2027 slate with a release in the spring.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. stunned Hollywood with a $313 million global opening weekend for 'A Minecraft Movie,' ranking among the top 5 highest opening weekends ever for the studio.

And the announcement of 'The Late Show' cancelation came three days after Colbert had said on his show that the settlement by CBS's parent company was 'a big, fat bribe,' alleging that Paramount made the payment because it's seeking to secure the Trump administration's approval to merge with Skydance Media. 'As someone who has always been a proud employee of this network, I am offended, and I don't know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company,' Colbert joked in his July 14 opening monologue. 'But just taking a stab at it, I'd say $16 million would help.' Colbert added, 'Paramount knows they could have easily fought it because in their own words, the lawsuit was 'completely without merit.' And keep in mind, Paramount produced 'Transformers: Rise of the Beast.' They know 'completely without merit.'' Critics of Trump including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) suggested that CBS's cancelation of Colbert's show may have been related to the Paramount settlement with the president. 'America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons,' Warren wrote on social media Thursday evening. Kimmel on Thursday wrote in an Instagram story, 'Love you Stephen' — and lashed out at CBS: 'Fuck you and all your Sheldons CBS.' Kimmel, host of ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', has been attacked by Trump in the past. In an interview last month with Variety, Kimmel was asked if he was worried that Trump would start coming after comedians in the way that he's tried to intimidate news media outlets and journalists. 'Well, you'd have to be naive not to worry a little bit. But that can't change what you're doing,' Kimmel said. 'And maybe it is naive, but I have the hope that if and when the day comes that he does start coming after comedians, that even my colleagues on the right will support my right to say what I like. Now, I could be kidding myself, and hopefully we'll never find out. But if we do, I would hope that the outrage is significant.' At Thursday's taping of 'The Late Show,' Colbert broke the news to the audience that the show was ending. 'It is a fantastic job. I wish somebody else was getting it,' he said. Colbert also thanked CBS executives and the 200 or so staffers who work on the program. To the boos of the audience at the news, Colbert said, 'Yeah, I share your feelings. It's not just the end of our show, but it's the end of 'The Late Show' on CBS. I'm not being replaced. This is all just going away.' 'We're not in Richmond anymore': What we know about 'Ted Lasso' Season 4
Believe it — Season 4 of Ted Lasso has officially begun production, Apple TV+ announced this week. That's right, Coach Lasso, the show's beloved mustachioed and mild-mannered namesake, who helped guide audiences through a global pandemic with optimism and humanity, is back on the football pitch. Well, this calls for biscuits. Filming has officially kicked off in star Jason Sudeikis's (Ted Lasso) hometown of Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Quinton Lucas called it 'another major victory for the city's rapidly expanding film industry,' in a post on X, in which he appears to be sporting a blue Ted Lasso hat. Additional filming is also set to take place across the pond in London. Apple TV posted a video on Instagram of Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins), Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) and Sudeikis are sitting in what appears to be a booth at a traditional American restaurant as some of the key members of AFC Richmond get ready to film a scene. The caption reads: 'We're not in Richmond anymore. Ted Lasso Season 4 is now in production.' The streaming service confirmed back in March that there would be a fourth season. At the end of Season 3, Ted ends up returning to the U.S. after coaching the fictional AFC Richmond soccer team in London in order to be closer to his son, Henry. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.' Even though they're not pictured in the promo image, the wise Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) will be back. Grant Feely will replace Gus Turner as Ted's son, Henry. Other newcomers to join the cast in roles that have yet to be revealed include: Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern. Who is not returning? What To Know During Friday's episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan was joined by Mike Baker, and they discussed the Trump administration's handling of documents relating to Epstein. While they were discussing the "chaos" of current politics, Rogan brought up the South Park episode. The episode titled "Sermon on the Mount" depicts Trump in bed with Satan, complaining about the size of his penis, and arguing with the Canadian prime minister. The episode also referenced the "Epstein list," the alleged list of clients involved in convicted sex offender Epstein's sex trafficking operation. "There's so much chaos, there's so much madness," Rogan said, before asking Baker if he had seen the South Park episode. "They did a Donald Trump on with Satan." "It's f****** hilarious," he said. "They haven't given a f*** since the beginning, and it's the greatest show of all time," Rogan said. South Park's creators took the stage at Comic-Con in California shortly after the episode—and the ensuing slew of headlines about it—aired. The two were asked by panel moderator Josh Horowitz if they had been following the reaction to the show. Parker jokingly responded: "We're terribly sorry." What People Are Saying White House Spokesperson Taylor Rogers told Rolling Stone on Thursday morning that South Park: "Hasn't been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention. What's Next The Season 27 premiere of South Park came after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus of the show, and came a day after the show's creators Parker and Stone had reached a $1.5 billion streaming deal with Paramount. They signed a reported $900 million deal to extend South Park to Season 30, which should take the show up to 2027. The 26th season featured six episodes, so this season may take a similar format.
