Elephant trampling outside Mossel Bay: Reserve's CEO named as victim
Mossel Bay Advertiser reports that Conradie, a husband, father to three young children, and friend to many, was trampled at about 08:00. Emergency medical services declared him dead on the scene.
KwaNonqaba police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp said yesterday that an inquest docket had been opened and an investigation launched.
A representative of the reserve and close friend of the Conradie family, who asked not to be named, said all employees at the reserve send their condolences to Conradie's family.
'We ask that people respect the privacy of the family while they are grieving such a tragic loss. This was a tragedy, and everyone who knew him is dealing with an unimaginable loss,' he said.
He added that the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being looked into and urged the public not to speculate.
Andries Erwee posted a tribute to Conradie on the public Facebook group Kalahari-Vasbyt yesterday, stating that Conradie was an avid supporter of the group and had funded a tree project for it.
He sent condolences to Conradie's wife and parents, saying Conradie was like no other man.

President Park resident Malcom James is concerned about the alleged lack of by-law enforcement at the corner of Modderfontein and Dale roads, wondering if all those vendors around that intersection have approved trading permits. 'It seems like almost every busy intersection is becoming a vending space. It's becoming an awful eyesore as people are selling sheep, chickens, and other items. There's like six or seven people selling different things, which I strongly believe is against the city by-law.' He said, as a tax and rates payer, he is worried that it might be out of control, adding that he is not a bad person, and understood that people needed to make a living, but he questioned if they had vending permits, or were just doing as they pleased. 'They litter everywhere. Johannesburg Metro Police Department [JMPD] passes there every day and don't enforce the by-law. I'm sensitive to people trying to make a living and I'm sympathetic to that, but we also have to consider the value of our properties. Before you know it, they will be erecting shacks there.' 2 women die after being doused with petrol and set alight by man in eMalahleni The two women who suffered severe burns after being burnt by a man in Kwa-Guqa in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, have passed away. Witbank News reports that Nompumelelo Gumede died this morning, and Antoinette Hill died on Friday. It is believed that Hill is the perpetrator's sister. Gumede and Hill were rushed to hospital a week ago after they were doused with petrol, set alight, and locked in a room to burn. According to the police, Hill tried to help Gumede after she had a fight with the suspect. The suspect allegedly sat in the next room while they were burning. The man was arrested shortly afterwards. 'We stand in solidarity with the families, friends and community members affected by this horrific incident,' Vinolia Mashiane from Kwanele Mama Foundation says.
