India Gazette23-06-2025
New Delhi [India], June 23 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday chaired the 47th Annual General Meeting of the Prime Ministers Museum and Library (PMML) Society at Teen Murti Bhawan in New Delhi and put forward a visionary concept of a 'Museum Map of India', aimed at providing a unified cultural and informational landscape of museums across the country.
The PM discussed different aspects of museums in India, including leveraging the power of technology and involving more youngsters in their work.
According to an official release, Prime Minister emphasised during the meeting that museums hold immense significance across the world and have the power to make us experience history. He underlined the need to make continuous efforts to generate public interest in museums and to enhance their prestige in society.
Underlining the importance of increased use of technology, Prime Minister suggested development of a comprehensive national database of all museums in the country, incorporating key metrics such as footfall and quality standards. He also suggested organising regular workshops for those managing and operating museums, with a focus on capacity building and knowledge sharing.
Prime Minister highlighted the need for fresh initiatives, such as the creation of a committee consisting of five persons from each State below the age of 35 years in order to bring out fresh ideas and perspectives on museums in the country.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that with the creation of a museum on all Prime Ministers, justice has been done to their legacy, including that of the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. This was not the case before 2014.
Prime Minister also asked for engaging top influencers to visit the museums and also invite the officials of various embassies to Indian museums to increase the awareness about the rich heritage preserved in Indian Museums.
Prime Minister advised that a compilation of all the legal battles and documents relating to the Emergency period may be prepared and preserved in light of the completion of 50 years after the Emergency.
Prime Minister highlighted the importance of preserving and documenting the present in a systematic manner. He noted that by strengthening our current systems and records, we can ensure that future generations and researchers in particular will be able to study and understand this period without difficulty.
Other Members of the PMML Society also shared their suggestions and insights for further enhancement of the Museum and Library.
The Prime Minister also planted a Kapur (Cinnamomum camphora) tree in the lawns of Teen Murti House, symbolising growth, heritage, and sustainability. (ANI)

Major relief in Nimisha Priya case: Last-minute negotiations postpone Kerala nurse's execution in Yemen

Major relief in Nimisha Priya case: Last-minute negotiations postpone Kerala nurse's execution in Yemen It was a tense and emotional race against time. Just one day before Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya was supposed to be executed in Yemen, long and careful discussions finally brought a ray of hope as her execution has now been put on hold. This relief came after several people and organizations worked together. The Indian government, some Saudi-based groups, and even the Grand Mufti of Kerala, Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, helped in the talks. He even contacted a friend in Yemen's Shoora Council to request support. Finally, late on Tuesday, an official order was issued by the Yemeni court and prison authorities, saying the execution would be delayed until further notice. Indian diplomats who were part of the talks said that India has done everything possible to get this temporary relief, and negotiations will now move to the next stage, discussing blood money (a compensation paid to the victim's family under Yemeni law). Nimisha's husband, Tomy Thomas, shared his happiness but added that more efforts are still needed. Sabu M. Jerome, who helped coordinate the peace talks, thanked the governments of Yemen, India, and all others who helped. He also said that many things being reported in the media are not true and strongly praised the huge role played by the Indian government in getting this stay order. Why is Nimisha Priya facing death penalty? Priya is currently in a Yemeni prison facing the death penalty for allegedly killing her former business partner, Talal Abdo Mehdi, back in 2017. Her situation became very serious when her execution was scheduled for Wednesday. However, a wave of support and last-minute efforts has given her a chance at life. Talks are underway involving Yemen's Chief Justice, a senior religious leader from the Shoora Council, and members of Mehdi's family. The main goal of the talks is to convince the family to accept 'blood money,' a legal provision under Islamic law where the victim's family can choose to forgive in exchange for compensation. This could delay or cancel the execution. In her hometown in Palakkad, Kerala, local leaders and community members are staying hopeful as discussions continue. Support has also come from high places: Kerala Governor Rajendra V. Arlekar spoke to India's Ministry of External Affairs. Kerala's Grand Mufti, Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, reached out to contacts in Yemen to help mediate. Prominent businessman M.A. Yusuf Ali has offered to provide financial help if needed. Politicians from all parties in Kerala have requested the President of India and the Union government to act urgently. Nimisha Priya's Story: A Life Hanging in the Balance Nimisha Priya moved to Yemen in 2008 to earn a living and support her family. She started by working in hospitals and later opened her own clinic. But things took a tragic turn in 2017 after a serious dispute with her business partner, Talal Abdo Mehdi. In an attempt to get back her confiscated passport, Priya allegedly gave him sedatives. Unfortunately, the sedatives caused his death. She was caught while trying to leave Yemen and was arrested. In 2018, she was convicted of murder, and in 2020, she was given the death sentence. Yemen's Supreme Judicial Council confirmed this sentence in November 2023. However, the court has left a window open: under Islamic law, if the victim's family agrees, they can accept 'blood money' instead of demanding execution. Nimisha's case has attracted both national and international attention, raising concerns about the safety of Indian workers in war-affected countries. Her mother, Prema Kumari, has been a strong voice in this fight. She even travelling to Yemen to try and speak directly with the victim's family. She's not alone. A group of NRI activists and social workers, called the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, is actively working to help her get justice and bring her back home safely. (With IANS inpus)

‘Running full-blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy': Congress hits out at S Jaishankar

The Congress on Tuesday hit out at External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for saying that India and China have made good progress in the past nine months towards the normalisation of bilateral relations, with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, saying that he 'is now running a full-blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy'. Taking a swipe at Jaishankar in a post on X, Gandhi said, 'I guess the Chinese foreign minister will come and apprise [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi about recent developments in China-India ties. The EAM is now running a full blown circus aimed at destroying India's foreign policy.' Jaishankar made the remarks on Monday on his first visit to China since the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020. He told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that while India and China have made good progress in the past nine months towards the normalisation of bilateral relations, they should work to address de-escalation on the border. The Congress also released a statement on Tuesday, saying that it would like to 'remind the EAM of recent developments in bilateral ties since the PM's last tête-à-tête with President Xi'. 'China gave total support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, turning it into a testing ground for network-centric warfare and weapon systems such as the J-10C fighter and PL-15E air-to-air missile and assorted drones. Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Rahul R Singh has stated that India fought three adversaries in Sindoor, including China that gave Pakistan 'live inputs' i.e. real time intelligence on Indian military operations. Pakistan is likely to acquire Chinese J-35 stealth fighters in the near future,' said the statement, released by Congress MP and communication in charge Jairam Ramesh. The statement further said that China 'has restricted exports to India of critical materials like rare-earth magnets, speciality fertilisers, and tunnel-boring machines for infrastructure projects'. 'Important sectors like telecoms, pharmaceuticals, and electronics remain critically dependent on Chinese imports, even as the trade deficit with China reaches a record $99.2 billion,' it said. The party also said that 'Indian patrols continue to require Chinese concurrence to reach their patrolling points in Depsang, Demchok, and Chumar'. ''Buffer zones' in Galwan, Hot Spring, and Pangong Tso lie predominantly within the Indian claim line, preventing our troops from accessing points to which they had unrestricted access before April 2020,' said the statement. The Congress said that 'this kowtowing to China is unsurprising given the EAM's beliefs'. Quoting an interview from two years ago, the statement said: 'Look, they are the bigger economy. What am I going to do? As a smaller economy, am I going to pick up a fight with the bigger economy?' Targeting PM Modi, the Congress said, 'His boss, the Prime Minister of the laal ankh, had similarly given a public clean chit to the Chinese with his statement of June 19, 2020, when he said, 'Na koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai'.' The party asked 'when the EAM and his boss the PM are going to take the people of India into confidence and hold a detailed debate on China in Parliament as the Indian National Congress has been calling for since 2020'. The Congress said that it hoped that PM Modi would agree to such a discussion and 'break the five-year drought' in the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. 'If Parliament could debate the border situation in November 1962 when the Chinese invasion was at its peak, why cannot we discuss now – especially given that both sides appear to want renormalisation (albeit without necessarily restoring the May 2020 status, quo on the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh)?' the statement said. It added, 'It is essential to build a national consensus on the critical security and economic challenges arising from China's rise as the world's leading manufacturing power and its position as the second-largest economy, one that may well surpass the United States within a decade.'
