Liverpool travel to Brighton in their final away match of the season tonight.
This is the first of two fixtures the recently-crowned Premier League champions must play before finally getting their hands on the trophy to kick-start those planned celebrations on Merseyside.
Since thrashing Tottenham 5-1 last month to clinch the title, Liverpool's levels have, understandably, dipped. They were beaten 3-1 away Chelsea before letting a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 at home to Arsenal last weekend.
Ahead of their penultimate game of the campaign, the squad and head coach Arne Slot have enjoyed some downtime abroad, which could be great news for Brighton as they look to sign off at home on a high.
The Seagulls are very much in the hunt for a top-eight finish in the Premier League, though they will have been pained to see rivals Crystal Palace lift the FA Cup on Saturday.
Brighton vs Liverpool is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off tonight on Monday May 19, 2025.
The match will take place at the Amex Stadium in Brighton.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on Sky Sports. Coverage of Monday Night Football starts at 6:30pm BST on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event.
Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Sky Go app.
Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport's live blog.
Free highlights: The Sky Sports app and YouTube channel will show highlights shortly after the final whistle.
Brighton XI: Verbruggen, Wieffer, van Hecke, Webster, Estupinan,Baleba, Ayari, Minteh, Gruda, Adingra, Welbeck
Subs: Rushworth,Igor, Dunk, Mitoma, Gomez, O'Riley, Veltman, Hinshelwood,Howell
Liverpool XI: Alisson, Bradley, Quansah, Konate, Tsimikas,Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Salah, Elliott, Gakpo, Chiesa
Subs: Kelleher, Gomez, Endo, van Dijk, Diaz, Nunez, Jones, Robertson,Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool have, quite literally, been on the beach this week. Despite that, it will not be an easy game for Brighton as Mohamed Salah, in particular, is chasing the Premier League assists record, so expect the visitors to carry a threat in attack.
That said, the Reds most likely won't be at their very best as evidenced by games against Chelsea and Arsenal.
Brighton to win, 2-1.
Both meetings this season have been settled by the odd goal. In fact, the two teams met twice in the space of three days back in the winter with Liverpool winning the Carabao Cup fourth round tie 3-2 and then following that up with a 2-1 win in the Premier League at Anfield.
Brighton wins: 4
Liverpool wins: 16
Draws: 7
Brighton to win: 17/10
Liverpool to win: 29/20
Draw: 29/10

Did Kevin Roy Get Away with Breaking the Rules at John Deere Classic?

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The John Deere Classic is known as a scorer's paradise, but during this year's third round, it was a bunker ruling, not a birdie, that shocked Sky Sports announcer and gained the spotlight. PGA Tour pro Kevin Roy, in contention at TPC Deere Run, sparked controversy when he called in a rules official after leaving his first bunker shot in the sand. What followed left fans fuming and Sky Sports commentator Dame Laura Davies openly confused on air. (Photo by) More Getty Images "I'm baffled by this. He should be penalized," she said, adding, "that's not how the game is meant to be played." Roy held the lead while playing the par-4 11th. However, his approach shot found the greenside bunker. On his third, he failed to clear the sand and watched the ball roll back to him, coming to rest in front of his footprint. Instead of playing his next shot immediately, he waited for his group to finish putting, then asked for a rules official. He wanted to rake the sand before hitting again. Rake the bunker BEFORE your shot? Yes, if you know this rule. — USGA (@USGA) July 5, 2025 The official ruled that the footprint wasn't in his line of play, allowing him to smooth the area without penalty under Rule 12.2b(2). But Davies wasn't buying it. "That's not in the spirit of the game," she added. "It's not what we teach young players." The moment quickly went viral. Golf analyst Joseph LaMagna posted, "Wait, why was Kevin Roy allowed to rake that bunker??" Fans echoed the sentiment, calling it "Bad!!!!" While others shared the same sentiment, typing, "This is very bad, blatantly trying to abuse the rules and no pushback from the official" Roy, who is making his 50th PGA Tour start, had been playing solid golf all week with rounds of 65, 67, and 70, briefly climbing into the top 10, four shots off the lead. The 34-year-old is still chasing his first Tour win and recently posted a T8 finish at the Rocket Classic. But this ruling may overshadow his performance. As the final round tees off, all eyes are on Davis Thompson, who leads at 15-under and is aiming to become the first back-to-back winner at the John Deere since Steve Stricker's three-peat (2009–2011). He's followed closely by Max Homa, David Lipsky, Emiliano Grillo, and Brian Campbell, all at 14-under. The $8.4 million purse includes $1.512 million for the winner and 500 FedEx Cup points. 'Wiegman analysis one of most important in career'

Former England midfielder Fran Kirby says manager Sarina Wiegman's analysis of the defeat by France is '"one of the most important ones in her career". The Lionesses were beaten 2-1 in their Euro 2025 opener and became the first defending champions to lose their first match of the next tournament at a women's Euros. Advertisement Kirby retired from international football a month before the tournament after Wiegman told the 31-year-old Brighton midfielder she was not going to make the squad. "It was very different to the Lionesses team I am used to playing in and watching," Kirby told BBC Radio 5 Live about Saturday's loss. "There were too many errors, too many sloppy passes, defensively we looked shaky and disjointed. It was really tough to watch. "We always do analysis after the game but I think this analysis probably has to be one of the most important ones of Sarina's managerial career." Advertisement Wiegman's former side, the Netherlands, beat Wales 3-0 in their opener and Kirby is acutely aware England have to make a vast improvement to progress from Group D. "This is one of the most important analyst days that the Lionesses have had because we have to find out what has gone wrong, why it went wrong and make it better for the next game. The next game is must-win. "You can always say basics weren't good enough, you can sit there and say these things, but we have to work on other things that are going to help us beat the Netherlands." England face the Netherlands on Wednesday (17:00 BST, live on BBC One) when Wiegman will attempt to beat her home nation having led them to European success in 2017. Advertisement 'I like the honesty' - Kirby on Williamson Captain Leah Williamson described England's errors in the France defeat as "some cheap sort of emotional defending". Kirby said she liked Williamson's honesty and does not expect the review to be "fiery - but it has to be productive". "Those quotes came out after the game. It was emotional losing the first game of the tournament and the players are coming off and they are emotional. I like the honesty," Kirby said. "That is something that hasn't happened in the women's game for a long period so I don't mind that." Advertisement Keira Walsh's consolation goal in the 87th minute was England's first shot on target in a match that was comfortable for Les Bleues until the closing stages. "There will be honest conversations in the meeting [on Sunday] to make sure it doesn't happen in the next game," added Kirby. "That has to apply to everyone. Everyone could have done better. Everyone has to reflect on their performance as a collective because everyone has to improve."

Nwaneri wants Arsenal assurances before signing new contract

Ethan Nwaneri wants assurances over his minutes at Arsenal before committing to a new contract. The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Gunners in 2024/25, scoring nine times in 16 starts across all competitions. Advertisement Last season, he became the second-youngest player to reach 10 goal involvements across Europe's top-five leagues (18 years and 11 days), behind only Barcelona's Lamine Yamal. Arsenal are keen to tie Nwaneri down to a new long-term deal but the teenager is yet to commit to an extension. Several leading clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, are monitoring the player's situation with talkSPORT reporting that Nwaneri keen to learn his role in Mikel Arteta's plans before signing a new contract. Arsenal are pursuing deals for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, two transfers that would increase competition for places in Nwaneri's preferred roles. Advertisement Nwaneri, who became the Premier League's youngest ever player at 15 years and 181 days old in 2022, has entered the final 12 months of his deal in North London. Arsenal are eager to tie up Nwaneri's deal as soon as possible, with the midfielder considered one of England's brightest young talents. He has been given extended leave ahead of pre-season after forming part of the victorious England squad at this summer's u-21 European Championship. In addition to incomings, Arsenal have been working behind the scenes to tie down key personnel to new deals. Gabriel Maghalaes signed a new contract with the club in June, while Myles Lewis-Skelly also committed his future last month.
