Broome man allegedly caught drink-driving twice in two hours
A 20-year-old WA man has landed in hot water after allegedly being caught drink-driving twice in under two hours, despite being immediately disqualified after the first offence.
Broome police say the drama began around 9pm on Wednesday, when officers pulled over a Holden Commodore on Forrest Street.
Behind the wheel was a 20-year-old Broome local who allegedly returned a positive alcohol reading.
He was taken to Broome police station, processed, and issued an immediate two-month driving disqualification.
But that warning appeared to fall on deaf ears.
Just one hour and 40 minutes later, at 10:40pm, officers reportedly spotted the same man driving again, this time on Anne Street.
He was pulled over, breathalysed once more, and again allegedly returned a positive reading.
He was promptly taken back to the station for a second time that night.
Police say the man has since been charged with two counts of driving without authority, along with charges of excess 0.08, excess 0.05, and providing false details to police. His vehicle has also been impounded.
Authorities used the opportunity to remind the public that drink-driving remains dangerous and illegal, and that police will continue to maintain a strong presence on local roads to ensure community safety.

However, after arresting the driver, Wyndham then charged him with unlawful damage, claiming the police car was rammed first, which the commission found was a lie and which was repeated in official witness statements from the senior constable and another officer in the car, Constable Alex Miatke. The commission formed an opinion of serious misconduct by Wyndham, and an opinion of police misconduct by Miatke, and recommended WA Police consider prosecuting Wyndham, who has since resigned.
