Belgium Sues FedEx for Facilitating Weapons Shipments to Israeli Military

DayofPal– The Belgian peace organization Vredesactie has filed a criminal complaint against U.S. shipping giant FedEx, accusing the company of violating both international and Belgian law over Gaza war.
The accusations came after FedEx transported components for U.S.-made F-35 stealth fighter jets to the Israeli military through Liège Airport.
In the complaint, submitted on June 26, the group said that FedEx played a key role in moving shipments tied to American defense contractor Lockheed Martin between June 20 and 24.
These shipments, originating from U.S. military bases, were ultimately destined for Nevatim Airbase in occupied Palestine, the launch point for Israeli airstrikes on Gaza and, more recently, on Iranian territory.
The complaint, grounded in Belgium's criminal code, asserts that such transfers may constitute 'complicity in war crimes,' referencing the international Arms Trade Treaty and national regulations governing arms exports.
Hans Lammerant, a representative of Vredesactie, stated: 'This transit violates the Arms Trade Treaty and amounts to criminal complicity in war crimes under Belgian law.'
According to the legal filing, 7 out of 20 shipments handled by FedEx originated from Fort Worth, Texas, home to Lockheed Martin's F-35 production line.
Others came from Tracy, California, the headquarters of the Joint F-35 Program. All the cargo fell under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), meaning it was subject to strict oversight by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Although Lockheed Martin was listed as both sender and recipient, the route took the shipments through Cologne, Germany, before being transported by land to Liège.
Belgian authorities confirmed that no transit licenses were requested from the Walloon regional government, which has maintained a 2009 agreement prohibiting the transfer of arms supporting Israeli military operations.
Wallonia's Prime Minister Adrien Dolimont reaffirmed this position, stating unequivocally: 'No licenses will be granted for shipments that could bolster the Israeli armed forces.'
FedEx, for its part, denied any wrongdoing, claiming it fully complies with all applicable laws. However, investigative reporting by Belgian newspapers De Morgen and Le Soir, in collaboration with Irish outlet The Ditch, revealed a troubling lack of transparency.
The final recipients and exact contents of the shipments remain undisclosed. Some parcels weighed just a few kilograms, raising further questions about their classification and intended use.
This case follows earlier revelations by the same journalistic team, which uncovered the shipment of 70 tons of ammunition to the Israeli military via Liège Airport over a six-month period last year through another company, Challenge Airlines, sparking public outcry but no legal consequences.

UK Arms Shipments to Israel Continue Despite Licence Suspension, Report Finds

A new report has revealed that British arms exports to Israel have quietly continued despite a government-announced suspension last year, raising serious concerns about transparency and potential complicity in war crimes. According to a study by the Palestinian Youth Movement, Progressive International, and Workers for a Free Palestine, UK firms sent 8,630 separate munitions to Israel since September 2024 — including items classified under 'bombs, grenades, missiles, and similar munitions of war.' The findings directly contradict repeated claims in Parliament by Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds that the UK had halted direct arms shipments, including parts for F-35 fighter jets, amid concerns they could be used in violations of international law during Israel's military operations in Gaza. Lammy had previously confirmed the suspension of 29 export licences over a 'clear risk' they might be used in attacks that breach humanitarian law. However, with over 350 licences still in effect — some involving components for the controversial F-35 programme — critics say the government hasn't been truthful. 'A Resigning Matter' The report, which draws on data from Israel's own tax authority, accuses UK ministers of misleading Parliament and the public. 'If Parliament has been misled, it's not just a resigning matter — it could point to complicity in war crimes,' said former Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell. 'The government has cloaked these arms deals in secrecy.' Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also demanded accountability: 'The public deserves to know the true extent of the UK's military cooperation with Israel. We won't stop until the full truth is uncovered.' Government Denies Allegations Responding to the findings, the UK Foreign Office said only 'relevant licences' had been suspended to prevent the potential misuse of UK weapons in Gaza. It insisted that most remaining licences support 'civilian purposes or re-exports' and are unrelated to the ongoing conflict, except F-35 components, which the UK sees as part of broader NATO obligations. 'The suggestion that the UK is knowingly providing weapons for use in Gaza is misleading,' the statement read. The ministry reiterated its opposition to any further expansion of Israel's military operations and called for renewed ceasefire talks and the release of hostages. Shortlink for this post:

Israeli Settlers Uproot 180 Trees in West Bank Village

DaysofPal— Israeli settlers uprooted around 180 trees and saplings in the town of Azzun, east of Qalqilia in the northern occupied West Bank, on Sunday, in the latest escalation of settler violence across Palestinian lands. According to local sources, settlers from the illegal settlement of Ma'ale Shomron, which is built on land seized from nearby Palestinian villages, stormed agricultural areas and destroyed 80 fully grown trees owned by Palestinian farmer Radi Mohammad Radwan. The damaged trees included 55 olive trees and 25 citrus trees. In addition to the destruction, the settlers reportedly stole farming equipment and sabotaged the water network on Radwan's land, causing damages estimated at around 10,000 shekels (approx. \$2,700). The attackers also uprooted about 100 three-year-old olive saplings belonging to another farmer, Mahmoud Mustafa Radwan. These saplings were located in the Abu Shaar Valley area, near the main road connecting Qalqilia and Nablus — a hotspot for repeated settler assaults. The incident marks a continuation of intensifying settler violence, often carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, especially as the war and genocide in Gaza fuels tensions across the occupied Palestinian territories. In May alone, Israel's Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission documented 415 settler attacks against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank. These attacks included armed assaults, land destruction, and widespread tree uprooting. Palestinian communities warn that such coordinated settler actions aim to forcibly displace farmers, seize their land, and expand illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, in violation of international law. Over 1,000 Homes Demolished in West Bank Since January

DaysofPal — Ongoing Israeli military attacks across the occupied West Bank have demolished more than 1,000 Palestinian homes and killed at least 55 people since January, according to reports from Palestinian media committees in Jenin and Tulkarem. The offensive has centered on three northern refugee camps — Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur Shams — where Israeli forces launched intensive raids starting January 21. In Jenin alone, over 600 homes have been destroyed, leaving hundreds of families displaced and numerous buildings uninhabitable, the camp's media committee reported Saturday. The campaign, now in its 159th day, has been marked by house burnings, road demolitions, and the military takeover of civilian buildings. At least 42 Palestinians have been killed in Jenin during the raids, with dozens more wounded or detained. An estimated 22,000 people have been forcibly displaced, according to the same source. In Tulkarem and nearby Nur Shams, the destruction continues at a staggering pace. Local media committees said more than 400 homes have been razed, with partial damage inflicted on over 2,500 others. The Israeli occupation military has also issued notices for the demolition of an additional 106 buildings, affecting at least 250 housing units. At least 13 Palestinians — including a child and two women, one of them pregnant — have been killed in the Tulkarem and Nur Shams raids. More than 25,000 residents have fled, facing dire humanitarian conditions as access to the camps remains cut off by Israeli forces. Local groups say the camps have been turned into 'nearly lifeless zones.' Since the beginning of Israel's war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, violence has sharply escalated in the West Bank. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that at least 986 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured by Israeli forces and settlers in the territory. In a landmark decision this July, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem, is illegal under international law and called for the dismantling of all Israeli settlements. Despite the ruling, the Israeli brutal campaign continues, intensifying displacement and destruction across the West Bank. Shortlink for this post:
