Ahmedabad: A remarkable tale of two brothers has unfolded in Ahmedabad, where the elder one's dedication enabled his younger sibling's success. After Dinesh Kevlani, 24, completed his studies at
IIM Lucknow
, his 27-year-old elder brother,
Dipesh Kevlani
, residing in Naroda, successfully cleared the
Common Admission Test
(CAT) and received an offer from
IIM Shillong
this year.
"My father passed away when I was 11 years old. My mother raised us brothers, and my maternal uncle has remained the pillar of strength for us, supporting us financially and emotionally. I worked in a footwear shop in my formative years while studying and, since Class 12, got a job as a watchman at a govt-run hospital, which continues to date," recounts Dipesh.
Achieving over 80% in both Class 10 and 12, Dipesh enrolled in a commerce college in Naroda for a BCom course. His CAT performance placed him in the 92.5 percentile. Supporting his family with a Rs 19,000 salary, he resumed his educational journey following his brother's encouragement after his
MBA
from IIM Lucknow.
Dipesh subsequently completed MCom from HL College of Commerce.
"I am currently working to secure a loan of Rs 25 lakh for the IIM fees. The overall expenses will be about Rs 30 lakh for the course. I hope to take finance as a specialisation. I am also hoping to get calls from other IIMs with fingers crossed," he adds.
Another Ahmedabad youth, Suraj Soni from Chaloda village near Dholka, also received an IIM Shillong offer.
Born to a peon father and a domestic help mother, Soni demonstrated that determination overcomes obstacles.
"I studied in Gujarati medium till Class 12 and then took admission in HL College of Commerce for a BCom degree, where I scored 78%. I did not know much about MBA courses and IIM when I got admission to the college, but several of my group members were taking courses, and I thus got interested. I enrolled in one such class and prepared hard. I am in the 82.14 percentile of students," said Suraj.
Similar to Dipesh, he awaits loan approval and additional IIM offers. "Getting into IIM is a dream for anybody, and I believe that my education may help my family," he added.

FIL Industries eyes more ropeway projects, looks to raise Rs 200 crore via equity
Diversified enterprise FIL Industries Pvt Ltd is looking to add four to five projects to its ropeway business and plans to raise Rs 200 crore on equity to expand the vertical, according to its Executive Director Syed Junaid Altaf. The company, which has invested about Rs 750 crore on three ropeway projects -- Skyview by Empyrean at Patnitop, Dehradun-Mussoorie and Yamunotri-Kharsali -- plans to bundle all of its current and future projects in a single SPV where the company holds ownership, and raise capital through infra fund, PE or a strategic partner route, Altaf told PTI in an interview. When all the first three projects are operational, he said the company is looking at "carrying anywhere between 3.5 million to 4.5 million passengers by 2030-31". While the Patnitop project is already operational, Dehradun-Mussoorie is expected to start by 2026 and Yamunotri-Kharsali in 2028. "We are now looking at four to five active projects and we are now also looking to raise capital. We are looking to bundle all of them in a single SPV where we hold ownership, and then that SPV holds ownership in the projects," he said when asked about the company's plans for the ropeway business. On the amount of capital the company is looking to raise, he said,"We are looking to raise at least Rs 200 crore on equity so that it sees us through at least another three projects." Live Events Altaf further said,"We will go either an infra fund route, or a PE (private equity) route or a strategic partner route." This, he said, is a way to "monetise and gain access to capital to scale this business". On the size of the total future projects that FIL is looking at, he said,"For us, (it is) anywhere between Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 1,200 crore." Being "specialists in pure PPP (public private partnership)" with revenue sharing with the government, he said in future too FIL would look for such projects which is of similar nature "where as much as the revenue share is with the government, pricing on the ropeway has to be determined by us" and the company is allowed to build tourism infrastructure, such as food and beverages and entertainment area, around the ropeway. FIL Industries, which has presence in crop nutrition, protection, stone fruit nursery, fruit juice concentrate, post harvest management, and sustainable mobility and infrastructure, had clocked an overall top line of Rs 430 crore with the nascent ropeway business about 5 per cent of total revenue. "But we anticipate the ropeway business by FY30 -- five years from today, when we have two more projects -- at least to be anywhere between 20 to 25 per cent (of total revenue)," Altaf said.

Gold prices may soften mid-term if global risks ease, says World Gold Council
Gold price may experience e mid-term weakness if geopolitical and trade risks globally ease, or higher opportunity costs if the US dollar and Treasury yields rise, according to a report released by the World Gold Council. Slowing central bank gold purchase and retail investment demand could also lead to mid-term gold price adjustment, WGC added. Gold prices were hovering around Rs 97,511 per 10 gm last Friday. Gold's recent bull run has attracted tremendous attention. After bottoming on 3 November 2022, the gold price has more than doubled from US$1,429/oz to US$3,287/oz, equivalent to a 30% compound annual growth has been supported by consistent central bank purchases as well as soaring geopolitical and, more recently, trade risks; all this has dwarfed the negative impact from rising real rates amid rate hikes by central banks and cooling inflation between November 2022 and August 2024. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ¡Kit alarma con cámara Wi-Fi: ¡Precio increíble por tiempo limitado! And we have studied previous bear runs for gold and analysed the factors that could lead to mid- or longer-term pullbacks, based on historical patterns. "While we don't consider these likely, longer-term pullbacks could come from more persistent and structural demand shifts which may lead to notable declines in gold's investment demand from both institutions and retail investors as well as rapid rises in supply." WGC said in the report. Live Events
