The New York Mets have been slumping in their most recent outings.
After emerging as the top team in the NL East, New York has run into a 2-8 record in their past 10 games, and it seemed that they have started to fall off since the injury to Cy Young candidate Kodai Senga.

Although the Mets lost their most recent series to a division rival, the Philadelphia Phillies, New York was able to finally win a game on Saturday after losing seven straight dating back to June 13.
Their electric start to the 2025 season still keeps them in a comfortable spot in the National League Wild Card standings with a 46-32 record, but it will take more improvement to pass the Phillies in the East and win their first division title since 2015.

New York came down with more unfortunate injury news last week. Starting pitcher Tylor Megill and relief pitcher Max Kranick were placed on the 15-day injured list with both suffering injuries to their throwing elbows.

The Mets had to make some changes to the pitching rotation and were able to go out and sign left-handed relief pitcher Richard Lovelady.
Lovelady recently opted out of the minor-league contract he signed with the Minnesota Twins earlier this season to land with the Mets on a major-league deal, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.
Lovelady is a former two-time Omaha (AAA) Pitcher of the Year award winner. He was elected as the best pitcher in the minor leagues in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018.
After he won the awards, Lovelady went on to the major leagues and his success declined while playing for five different teams since 2019.

With a career 5.25 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 93 strikeouts over 101 innings, Richard Lovelady is set to join his sixth major league team with the New York Mets. He's previously pitched for the Royals, Athletics, Cubs, Rays, and Blue Jays.

Jake Paul's $500K Move May Have Saved a Life

Jake Paul's $500K Move May Have Saved a Life originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A quiet gesture from Jake Paul just became one of the most powerful stories in combat sports Jake Paul has been a man on a mission inside the ring. After defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., the social media star–turned–legitimate boxer continued his rise through the cruiserweight division. But it turns out, the biggest fight Paul was gearing up for wasn't in the ring—it was something far more personal. And he never said a word about it. He put names on blast, calling out companies, influencers, and even Dana White for staying silent while Ben Askren, a man he once shared the ring with, faced a life-or-death situation. Askren needed a double lung transplant—a procedure few can afford and even fewer survive without urgent help. Jake made it clear someone needed to step up. Turns out, he already had. Advertisement Today, the curtain was pulled back thanks to a post on X from Amanda Serrano, shared from the Rugby League account, who revealed Jake Paul quietly donated $500,000 to Ben Askren and his family to help pay for the life-saving procedure. (Photo By Stephen McCarthy/Sportsfile via Getty Images) The post read: 'I'm telling you He's Different! Not once did he go public with this. @jakepaul isn't what most think. To know him is to love him.' That wasn't PR. That was real. Jake never flexed this move. He didn't post a graphic, didn't hold a press conference. He just wired half a million dollars and went back to work. Ben Askren, now on the long road to recovery, took to social media with an emotional message of his own: 'So I only died four times, where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds. That's not ideal... I got the double lung transplant, I made it on the other side of it, gaining quite a bit of strength, learning to use everything again.' Advertisement That line—'I only died four times'—puts the severity into perspective. This wasn't a routine operation. And Jake Paul, without making a scene, quietly offered help when it mattered. Jake Paul, the showman, the disruptor, just pulled off the quietest and perhaps most meaningful win of his career. And as he continues his climb through the WBA cruiserweight ranks, we'll be keeping an eye on what's next—both for Paul's return to the ring and for Ben Askren's ongoing recovery. Shakur Stevenson defends lightweight title by beating Zepeda at home of US Open tennis tournament

NEW YORK (AP) — Shakur Stevenson remained undefeated and defended his WBC lightweight title with a dominant performance in the first boxing card held on the grounds of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, beating William Zepeda by unanimous decision Saturday night. One judge favored Stevenson 119-109, while the other two had it 118-110 for the 2016 Olympic silver medalist. Stevenson (24-0) won just before Edgar Berlanga and Hamzah Sheeraz fought in the final bout of the night in Louis Armstrong Stadium, the No. 2 venue at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. But it was a main event-level performance from Stevenson and the first wide victory of the night after the previous two bouts were close right to the finish. Zepeda (33-1) landed a left hand shortly after the opening bell that drew a smile from the champion, and he was able to get inside a number of times to unload a series of shots at Stevenson. But he was often powerless to stop the flurries that were coming back at him from Stevenson's hand speed that is up at the top of boxing. ___ AP boxing:
