Match scorecard
Sussex edged in front of Durham but a weather-affected day makes the draw the most likely outcome of this Division One County Championship game.
Australia bowler Gurinder Sandhu took four wickets in the morning to finish with 5-83 as Durham were bowled out for 327, a deficit of 34 after the first innings.
After the visitors had fallen to 27-3 in the game's third innings, James Coles added 53 to his unbeaten 148 in the first knock.
However there were four separate stoppages for rain and bad light over the last two sessions until play was finally called with Sussex 111-4.
But with their lead still only 145, it will take something exceptional on the final day for either side to force a victory.

Resuming on 249-5 and still 112 short of Sussex's 361, Durham had seen Graham Clark go on to a half-century before he gloved behind a short ball from Ollie Robinson to be out for 51.
But their chances of taking a first innings lead disappeared thanks to a series of rash strokes from the lower order as they lost their last four wickets for 26.
George Drissell fell for eight as he was caught in the deep, taking on a short ball from Sandhu, while Ben Raine departed for 10, caught driving the same bowler to extra cover.
Matthew Potts (two) was caught behind off an excellent delivery from Robinson before last man Sam Conners tried to take on a short ball from Sandhu and gloved it behind to be out for seven.

It left the 32-year-old with a five-wicket haul on his Sussex debut and stole the headlines from Jofra Archer.
In his return to red-ball cricket, the England fast bowler finished with 1-32 from 18 economical overs.
Although he did not take a wicket on day three, he generated good pace and showed no ill effects of bowling on consecutive days.
England paceman Potts had Daniel Hughes playing on for a duck in the second ball after lunch before Raine had Tom Haines caught behind for 10.
And when Potts got Tom Clark to drag one on during a hostile spell, Sussex were in a spot of trouble, still only 61 ahead.

But they were indebted to Coles, who brought up a half-century off 65 balls including 10 fours to lead the recovery.
He was bowled by one from Raine that kept a bit low to end a partnership of 73 with Danial Ibrahim and it was not long after that when persistent rain arrived to end the day 32 overs early.

Aaron Ramsey flying to Mexico to sign for Liga MX club Pumas
Aaron Ramsey was set to travel to Mexico on Monday night ahead of signing for Liga MX side Pumas UNAM. Ramsey has already completed a medical with the Mexico City club and is due agree a deal for the coming season, with an option to extend, on Tuesday. The 34-year-old turned down interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to join Pumas, who begin their new campaign on July 13 against Santos Laguna, having finished 10th of 18 sides in the top flight last term. Advertisement Ramsey, formerly of Arsenal, is out of contract at Cardiff City — whom he rejoined in 2023 and where he was interim manager for the final three games of the 2024-25 Championship season. The Wales captain played 10 games for Cardiff last season and took his first managerial role on a short-term basis following the dismissal of Omer Riza. He guided his side to draws against Oxford United and West Bromwich Albion before overseeing a 4-2 defeat to Norwich City, which saw Cardiff finish bottom of the table and relegated to the third-tier of English football. Speaking upon taking the job in April, Ramsey played down his potential appointment as Cardiff's full-time head coach with ambitions of continuing his playing career for the 2026 World Cup. 'I am just taking these three games,' he said. 'I'm still recovering from a hamstring operation, I'm still in the middle of rehab and I'm focused on getting back to full fitness. This is a role where it's going to be an intense 10 days now then I can relax and get back into my rehab. I'm just looking at the next two.' Ramsey added: 'There's a lot to play for and that World Cup is a massive carrot being dangled.' In an 11-year spell, Ramsey made 369 appearances for Arsenal, recording 64 goals and 60 assists. He also played 70 times for Juventus and 34 games for Nice before returning to Cardiff, where rose through the academy in his early playing career. The midfielder has earned 86 caps for Wales, and was named captain of the national side following Gareth Bale's retirement in March 2023. ()

Five players Everton could sign for free this week including Kenny Tete
The end of June marks the conclusion of most player contracts with anyone whose deal has been left to expire available as a free agent from July 1. Everton are expected to utilise the free and loan markets as David Moyes looks to fill gaps across most of his squad. Advertisement On Sunday, Dominic Calvert-Lewin confirmed he would depart the club, meaning the Blues will formally cut ties with around a dozen senior players - including Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young and Joao Virginia. Idrissa Gueye has been in talks over an extension while Michael Keane's future is up in the air. With Everton needing options across the team - from a deputy to Jordan Pickford to cover and competition in almost every area - here are a few players the club look to pick up without having to pay a transfer fee. READ MORE: Every first team player who could leave Everton this week after Dominic Calvert-Lewin decision READ MORE: Thierno Barry Villarreal transfer stance shared as Everton set for £34m talks - 'We want the player' Kenny Tete The most obvious player in this category is Kenny Tete. The right-back has been offered new terms by Fulham but has not signed them. Everton have stepped into that situation by holding talks with the player and offering him the chance to fight for a spot in the defence in the first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Advertisement The 29-year-old has suffered injury issues in recent years but is known as an excellent one v one defender who also likes to carry the ball forward, potentially giving Everton a new dimension to their attack. Whether Tete will choose to remain at Craven Cottage or move to Merseyside is yet to be confirmed but the Bluescertainly hope to make the free agent the answer to the club's longstanding problems on the right of the defence. Kyle Walker-Peters Should the pursuit of Tete end in disappointment, another candidate for Everton's needs at full-back is Kyle Walker-Peters. The 28-year-old played 33 times in the Premier League for Southampton last season and is an experienced and versatile player who could operate on both sides of the defence. With the Blues needing both a right-back and, ideally, another option at left-back, Walker-Peters could offer a shortcut to an answer to both problems. Advertisement The former Tottenham Hotspur defender has been continuing his fitness work through the close season - with social media images showing him working out with former Everton midfielder Dele. Josh Brownhill Josh Brownhill was a name repeatedly linked with Everton during the reign of Sean Dyche, who worked with the central midfielder during his time at Burnley. Brownhill remained a Claret though and was part of the side that again sealed promotion from the Championship last season. Whether he will give consolidating in the top flight yet another go at Turf Moor is uncertain - Brownhill is out of contract and has been offered renewed terms but an announcement on his decision is yet to be made. Advertisement Moyes wants to strengthen his central midfield this summer and several additions may be required. The 29-year-old offers Premier League experience and scored 18 times in the Championship last year, showing he has the potential to add goals from the middle, something Moyes is keen on. Brownhill could be the type of low-risk, budget friendly move that helps to add depth to the squad while allowing time and money to be focused elsewhere. Angus Gunn The exits of Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic leave Everton devoid of a senior backup for Jordan Pickford. Only Harry Tyrer has senior experience after two positive loan spells, with Billy Crellin and Zan-Luk Leban also leaving the Finch Farm goalkeeping department this summer. Tyrer could be promoted but Moyes will want to have a back-up with greater experience should Pickford be unavailable. Gunn played 35 times in the Championship last season for Norwich City and, at 29, is one of the younger free agents available in this position this summer. The Scotland international may wish to seek first team football though. Luka Jovic Calvert-Lewin's exit means Everton are on the hunt for a forward. Beto scored goals when given the chance last season but Youssef Chermiti remains seriously inexperienced and is a candidate for a loan move. Advertisement Thierno Barry appears to be top of the list, with the club exploring whether Villarreal will accept offers beneath his £34m release clause. But a big name that is available for free is Luka Jovic. It has been some six years since Jovic's goalscoring heroics at Eintracht Frankfurt earned him a high-profile move to Real Madrid and he has struggled to reach those heights since. He is now due to leave AC Milan. At 27, he would be a younger option than other free agents Callum Wilson or Danny Ings, though he would be a gamble that feels unlikely.
