Bones Found From New Site In Dharmasthala Mass Burial Case
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged mass burial case in Dharmasthala on Monday recovered multiple skeletal remains from a new site identified by the anonymous complainant, police sources said.
Under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Pranab Mohanty, the SIT halted exhumations at the designated 11th site and redirected operations to a previously unexamined spot at a place called Banglegudde.
The new site, located on an elevated terrain nearly 100 feet high, has yielded several skeletal fragments, including skulls and other human bones, sources in the police said.
According to sources, the SIT, which is investigating the case of hundreds of alleged illegal burials between 1995 and 2014, has already gathered Unnatural Death Report (UDR) records for the period. Despite earlier records being tampered with or missing from Belthangady police archives, prior data collection ordered by Mohanty soon after the SIT's constitution helped preserve critical evidence.
Police officials said the recovered skeletal remains have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to determine age, gender, and possible cause of death.
The skeletal remains that were recovered from site No. 6 on July 31 have been sent for forensic examination.
Attempts to exhume at four other locations--labelled sites 7 to 10--had earlier failed to produce conclusive evidence, further intensifying focus on the new site. Minor injuries were reported among a few personnel during the operation due to the difficult terrain, police officials said.
The SIT has invited residents who had earlier lodged complaints or shared information to actively engage with the ongoing investigation. Officials said that recovering as many skeletals as possible remains a top priority in one of Karnataka's largest forensic-led investigations.
The SIT investigation continues under tight secrecy, with daily operations expected to proceed based on emerging findings.
The SIT was formed by the state government after allegations emerged of mass murder, rape, and illegal burials in Dharmasthala over the past two decades.
The complainant, a former sanitation worker whose identity has not been disclosed, claimed that he was employed in Dharmasthala between 1995 and 2014.
He alleged that he was forced to bury several bodies--including those of women and minors--some of which bore signs of sexual assault.
He has since recorded a statement before a magistrate in connection with these claims.

Venkatesh, named as Accused No 34 (A-34) in the case, was earlier seen in a now-viral video counting currency bundles reportedly worth Rs 35 crore, suspected to be part of the liquor scam proceeds. The cash was seen stacked in large bundles, including Rs 2,000 denomination notes, and was discovered during the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry. In the latest development, visuals have emerged showing Venkatesh Naidu travelling in a private jet, mingling with film actors, and moving around in high-end cars. One video shows him arriving at an airport in a luxury vehicle and walking straight onto the runway to board a private aircraft. Upon landing, he was seen getting into a car fitted with a red beacon, which is typically reserved for VIP protocol, hinting at the level of influence and access he enjoyed. Surprisingly, it was learnt that the video was found in Venkatesh's mobile phone itself. The two are believed to share an inseparable political association. During the 2024 general elections, Chevireddy contested from the Ongole Lok Sabha constituency as YSRCP candidate, and Venkatesh Naidu filed a nomination as an independent from the same seat. Though his nomination was later rejected it was widely felt that he filed it as a dummy for Chevireddy. SIT has noted that Chevireddy remained in constant contact with Naidu throughout the process and was actively involved in directing the movement and delivery of scam-related funds. Investigators have concluded that Naidu played a crucial role in ensuring that the money was transported and handed over as per Chevireddy's instructions. Venkatesh was said to have born in Nandyal and educated in Hyderabad, while his background has drawn renewed attention. Despite his apparent access to vast sums of money, Naidu in his 2024 election affidavit declared an annual income of only Rs 4.95 lakh for the financial year 2022–23. He reported assets worth Rs 10.70 lakh, including bank balances and cash, and claimed he owned no immovable property. The sharp contrast between his declared financial status and the opulence seen in the videos has sparked widespread outrage online. The revelations have intensified public scrutiny of the liquor scam and its political connections, as well as raised further questions about how such levels of luxury and access were possible for someone with officially modest means. Dharmasthala mass burial case: Skeletal remains found in Banglegudde near point 11
MANGALURU: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the alleged Dharmasthala mass burial case, reportedly found skeletal remains in Banglegudde hillock area in Belthangady taluk on Monday. The remains were found a few metres away from point 11 site, which the complainant-witness had identified last week. However, SIT officials are yet to officially confirm the findings. On the sixth day of the exhumation process, SIT officials, the complainant-witness, his advocates, labourers, the Puttur assistant commissioner, the forensic team, and Scene of Crime Officers (SoCOs) began arriving at the site around 11am. The SIT was initially expected to continue the search at point 11 located near the road connecting Dharmasthala and Ujire. However, the team diverted their operation into a nearby forest area. The complainant- witness reportedly requested the SIT to conduct searches at a place away from point 11. Earlier in the day, labourers were seen tying shade nets to block the view for outsiders. He was asked to return on Monday. According to Dakshina Kannada district police, Jayanth approached the SIT office in Belthangady to file a complaint related to the alleged incident that had taken place in Dharmasthala. After reviewing the complaint, the officials directed him to file it at the Dharmasthala police station. Accordingly, a complaint was submitted at Dharmasthala police station under 200/DPS/2025. Further action will be taken based on the complaint. Jayanth was reportedly active in the "Justice for Sowjanya" campaign.
