What we learned about Joe Burrow's mindset, swagger and quirky side from Netflix's 'Quarterback'
What 'Quarterback' taught us about Joe Burrow (Imagn Images) It may have taken some nudging, but Joe Burrow finally stepped into the spotlight—this time off the field. The Cincinnati Bengals' franchise quarterback made his television debut in Season 2 of Netflix's docuseries Quarterback, which premiered on Tuesday. Alongside fellow signal-callers Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons, Burrow allowed cameras into his 2024 season for a seven-episode journey, offering fans rare access into his life, mindset, and leadership style. Joe Burrow like you've never seen—what we learned from his candid moments in 'Quarterback' Despite initial hesitation, Burrow ultimately agreed to join the show largely because of one key figure—Peyton Manning. The Hall of Famer, who serves as executive producer through Omaha Productions, helped win Burrow's trust. "I probably wouldn't have done it if he wasn't involved," Burrow admitted at a May 20 press conference. "But I have a lot of trust and faith in him to not do anything that would hurt me or the team." This level of control extended into post-production too, as Burrow personally reviewed the episodes before release. And while Quarterback avoids the dramatic tropes often seen in sports documentaries, it doesn't shy away from showing the fire that makes Burrow the competitor he is. Joe Burrow's intensity Is relentless—Even after wins Perhaps the most revealing aspect of the series is Burrow's unfiltered intensity. In one standout moment from a Week 15 win over the Titans, his frustration boiled over despite the scoreboard favoring Cincinnati. While Hard Knocks offered a glimpse of that outburst, Quarterback pulled back the curtain further. "Embarrassing performance by us," Burrow said. "F---ing embarrassing." 'Listen, we'll address it. But at the same time, let's enjoy some of these wins,' coach Zac Taylor replied. 'F--- that. F--- that. We sucked today. That was embarrassing. We jumped offsides f---ing eight times.' This scene, raw and honest, reflects why Burrow has helped elevate the Bengals from a struggling franchise into a Super Bowl contender. He's not satisfied with mediocrity—even in victory. No laundry, no dishes, no problem While Burrow's on-field persona is intense, his off-field quirks provide some lighter moments. Viewers were treated to a candid conversation with his mother, revealing that domestic chores aren't exactly his forte. 'I don't really like doing my laundry or dishes,' Burrow confessed. '... I mean, I know how to do them. I just don't like doing them.' It's a moment of levity that humanizes the two-time Pro Bowler—and reminds fans that even elite quarterbacks have their blind spots. A football mind that knows the value of the run One of the most insightful moments came while Burrow watched the Detroit Lions from home. Reflecting on their offensive firepower, he credited their ground game. 'It starts with running the ball,' he said. 'They run the ball better than anybody.' He's not wrong. The Lions were statistically one of the best offenses in 2024, powered by balance and dominance in the run game. It's a formula Burrow no doubt envies, especially considering Cincinnati's persistent struggles in that area. As Quarterback shows, Burrow isn't just the face of a franchise—he's a complex, driven leader with high standards and sharp football instincts. And now, thanks to Netflix, the world finally gets a deeper look at the man behind the stripes. "I'm the Achilles guy": Kevin Durant shares his insight on injury with NBA superstars like Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard
Kevin Durant (Image via Jerome Miron/Imagn Images) If anyone knows how to make a comeback after a potentially career-altering injury, it's the newest acquisition of the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant. The power forward suffered from a ruptured right Achilles tendon while he was with the Golden State Warriors during the 2019 NBA Finals. His injury led to a lot of speculation, and many believed that it was the end of KD in the NBA. But he proved everyone wrong, and returned to full strength in the next season, and has since proved that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything. And that is exactly what he shared with players like Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard, both of whom are suffering from similar injuries currently. Kevin Durant was approached by Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard after injury Jayson Tatum sustained a ruptured Achilles during the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks. Thankfully, the Boston Celtics star was able to undergo surgery the very next day and is currently in rehab, getting back to playing condition. Damian Lillard also suffered from a similar injury after tearing his Achilles tendon during the Milwaukee Bucks' postseason run this year. He, too, is in rehab currently and is most likely to miss most, if not all, of the 2025-2026 season. And at such trying times, both these players have turned to someone who has already gone through a similar phase in their career - Kevin Durant. Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard (Image via X) KD recently appeared on the Mind the Game podcast alongside LeBron James and host Steve Nash, where he revealed that both Tatum and Lillard had been in contact with him since their injuries. He joked that he had become the 'Achilles guy' since his injury, and now a lot of players turn to him for advice. He said: 'Of course, you know JT and Dame hit me up — I feel like I'm the Achilles guy. I feel like a lot of guys have bounced back and become themselves again. Mine is the most popular, but I feel like a lot of guys have bounced back that I took inspiration from when I was going through my journey.' "I feel like I'm the Achilles guy." 😅 #kevindurant #injury #nba #shorts Back then, Kevin Durant's injury grabbed a lot of attention, and many believed that his injury would lead to the end of his career. But it's been 5 years since he came back, and he has made 5 consecutive All-Star appearances, and is not looking to stop anytime soon. Lillard is also currently in a similar position, with him being waived by the Bucks, and now he is in free agency. With him being absent for most of the upcoming season, the chances of him making a comeback are slim. But the veteran player is not ready to give up yet, and fans will be rooting for him to come back to court once he is fully recovered.
