Eight Black Airport Shuttle abruptly shuts down, stranded travellers demand refunds

Hindustan Times18-06-2025
A northern Colorado airport shuttle service suddenly shut down, leaving customers with ride vouchers they can't use and no clear answers about when—or if—they'll get their money back.
Eight Black Airport Shuttle announced on its website and Facebook page that it officially closed on Friday, June 13. The message, signed by owner and founder Simon Chen, left many customers frustrated and confused.
'I sincerely apologize for not including information about how we would handle vouchers in our previous email regarding the closure of our shuttle business. That was an incredibly difficult day for me professionally,' the statement reads.
'We are actively working on a system to manage the refund process, and it is my full intention to refund every single customer, no matter how long it takes. I know this situation has been a letdown for you and for the Boulder County community,' as cited by Daily camera report.

According to the company's website, anyone who fills out the voucher refund request form will be contacted with information about how the refund process will work. Customers who bought vouchers during the most recent sale will be refunded first. The company warned it could take up to 12 months to complete all refunds.
'If we can make it happen sooner, we will,' Chen added in the statement. 'I am truly sorry for any inconvenience caused by the closure of the shuttle service.'
As of Monday afternoon, the Facebook post had more than 250 comments. One customer wrote, 'We have over a dozen … tickets (vouchers) bought that need to be redeemed. You were running sales last week or two ago? I want my money back.'
Many others shared similar concerns, with some noting their purchases were too old to dispute with their credit card companies.
Eight Black's phone line now plays a recorded message announcing the shutdown.
At the company's office at 206 S. Main St., the parking lot gates were open Monday afternoon, and several company vehicles, along with some private cars, were parked outside. The building itself was locked, and no one answered the buzzer. Inside, lights were still on, and items like bags and half-finished drinks were visible on desks, as per reports.
Chen launched Eight Black in 2015. In 2022, the company took over Green Ride's shuttle route between Denver International Airport and various locations in the Boulder and Longmont area.

Coldplay concert Kiss cam scandal: Where was Kristin Cabot's husband while she was with Astronomer CEO Andy Byron?

Andrew Cabot , CEO of Privateer Rum and member of Boston's elite "Brahmin" family, was thousands of miles away on a business trip in Japan when a scandal erupted back home. His wife, Kristin Cabot , was caught on camera in an intimate moment with her boss, former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron , during a Coldplay concert — a moment that quickly went viral and triggered a storm of public scrutiny. The video, widely circulated online, shows Kristin and Byron in an apparent romantic embrace, ultimately leading to Byron's resignation from Astronomer. Kristin, who also works at Astronomer, has been placed on leave pending an internal investigation. Since the video surfaced, she has remained out of the public eye. This revelation comes just five months after the couple purchased a $2.2 million home in Rye, New Hampshire. Kristin Cabot has served on Privateer Rum's advisory board since September 2020, a time when she was reportedly still married to her previous husband, further complicating her personal timeline. Live Events The scandal has sparked widespread conversation on social media, with memes and speculation dominating online discourse. It's also raised serious questions about workplace relationships and ethical conduct, especially with both Kristin and Byron holding high-level positions at the same company. The Cabot family's long-standing legacy in New England society — tied to the historic Boston Brahmin class — adds an extra layer of public intrigue. As Kristin remains silent and Astronomer's investigation continues, the public is left piecing together the story through leaks, insider reports, and social media posts. This scandal, blending personal betrayal, corporate fallout, and social media virality, serves as a modern cautionary tale about privacy, perception, and the consequences of public behavior in the digital age.

Meta to stop political ads in European Union by October, blames bloc's new rules

Facebook and Instagram owner Meta said Friday that it will stop all political advertising in the European Union by October, blaming legal uncertainty over new rules designed to increase transparency in election campaigns. Meta said the rules introduce 'significant operational challenges and legal uncertainties. The social media giant said in a blog post that it will no longer allow ads for political, electoral and social issues on its platforms, which also include Threads, starting in early October. The company said it was making the decision because of the 27-nation EU's 'unworkable' Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising regulations. The rules introduce 'significant operational challenges and legal uncertainties," Meta said. It's not the first Big Tech company to make such a move. Google said last year that it would stop serving EU users political ads before the rules take effect, in an announcement that cited similar reasons. Under the regulations, which are set to take effect on Oct 10, platforms will have to label political ads, disclosing who paid for them, and what campaign, referendum or legislative process they're connected to. Ads will have to be preserved in a database, and they can only be targeted to users under strict conditions. The rules introduce 'significant, additional obligations to our processes and systems that create an untenable level of complexity and legal uncertainty for advertisers and platforms operating in the EU,' Meta said. Violations can be hit with fines worth up to 6% of a company's annual global revenue. The rules are part of Brussels' wider efforts to counter foreign influence and manipulation in elections, and dovetail with the bloc's other regulations designed to protect citizens' privacy and hold platforms more accountable for internet users' online safety. But those moves clash with President Donald Trump's administration, which has lashed out at the EU's digital rulemaking. Meta said its decision won't affect users who want to debate politics on its platforms or prevent politicians, candidates and officer holders from "sharing political content organically". 'They just won't be able to amplify this through paid advertising,' it said. (AP) SCY SCY
