Franco Baresi, 65, undergoes surgery as AC Milan release health update on legendary defender

AC MILAN legend Franco Baresi has undergone surgery on his lungs after being diagnosed with a pulmonary nodulation.
The club revealed in a statement that Baresi, 65, had a successful operation but will need more treatment.

A statement posted on Instagram read: "AC Milan announces that, following routine medical checks, our Honorary Vice President Franco Baresi was found to have a pulmonary nodule.
"It was decided that the best course of action was to remove it with a minimally invasive surgical procedure.
"The operation went well, and his recovery has been free of complications.
" Franco has since been assessed by an oncology specialist, who recommended a consolidative course of immunotherapy.

"The entire Board of Directors, Club Management, employees and staff, the coaching team, and all the men's and women's players at AC Milan send Franco their heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery.
"Captain, we are all with you!"
Baresi updated fans with a short statement of his own as part of the post.
He said: "Dear fans, I just want to let you know that it will take a little time to get back to full strength.
"Thank you to AC Milan and to all of you for your support. A big hug, with affection."
Baresi is a legend in Milan having made over 700 appearances for AC Milan as a one-club man.
The defender captained the side for 15 of his 20 years at the San Siro, and helped the club win six league titles and three Champions League's and European Cups.
He has held the position of honorary vice president at AC Milan since 2020 and was even voted as the 'Milanista of the Century" by fans during a celebration of the club's 100th birthday in 1999.
On an international level, Baresi earned 81 caps for the Italian national side.
He was part of the Italian's World Cup winning side in 1982, as well as captaining the country to the 1994 World Cup final where they heartbreakingly lost to Brazil on penalties.

He's obviously come in with a fresh pair of eyes and came out and shot for exactly what he wants. 'We're trying to make progress and I think we can make progress. Where Tony and others and myself think we can bridge the gap and maybe try and get ahead of others is the confidence they have in the recruitment.' McInnes felt he had 'a team screaming to win the game of football there, absolutely busting'. 'For sheer commitment, guts, effort, I thought we were 10 out of 10,' he said. Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin conceded the better team won. 'We had an idea of how we were going to take on the game today in the first half with the ball, and we didn't succeed in that,' he said. 'Hearts put good pressure on us, and then they win these second balls and create a momentum with the crosses. They were better in the first half. 'I think in the second half we got better with the ball and started creating some chances in their box, but we were not really clinical. We were not really there.'

Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey to appear in court charged with rape
The midfielder faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following alleged offences between 2021 and 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said. The 32-year-old is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Partey's lawyer Jenny Wiltshire previously said he 'denies all the charges against him', adding he welcomed 'the opportunity to finally clear his name'. The Ghanaian international was charged four days after leaving the North London club when his contract expired at the end of June. Partey, of Hertfordshire, is accused of two counts of rape against one woman and three counts of rape against another. The sexual assault allegation relates to a third woman, according to the CPS. The Metropolitan Police said it first received reports of an allegation of rape in February 2022. Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 in a transfer worth around £45 million. The defensive midfielder signed for the Spanish club in 2012 and made 188 appearances, as well as going out on loan to Mallorca and Leganes. He played 35 games for the north London club in the Premier League last season, scoring four goals. Partey has also made more than 50 appearances for Ghana – including at the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations. An Arsenal spokesperson previously said: 'The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings the club is unable to comment on the case.'
