Ministry: Festive price caps for Kaamatan, Gawai extended to 7 days, more goods added including coconut and onions
INANAM, May 23 — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will implement the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) in conjunction with the Kaamatan and Gawai Festivals for seven days.
Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the Kaamatan Festival SHMMP will begin on May 27 and continue until June 2, whereas the Gawai Festival SHMMP will be from May 29 to June 4.
'A total of 10 items are listed under the Kaamatan SHMMP compared to eight last year with the addition of imported large yellow and red onions.
'For the SHMMP in conjunction with the Gawai Festival, 11 items have been listed, compared to eight last year, with the addition of three items—whole coconuts, grated coconut, and coconut milk,' he told reporters at Pisompuruan Hall in Kampung Kobuni here today.
Armizan said the SHMMP will be implemented three days before, a day during, and three days after the festivals.
He said the duration of the price control initiative considers the interests of consumers and the business community, allowing consumers to purchase essential items at reasonable prices while ensuring that traders are not burdened by a lengthy enforcement period.
Items listed under the price control scheme during the Kaamatan Festival include live pigs (with maximum prices set only at farms), pork meat, fat, and belly.
Other items are buffalo meat imported from India (except the tenderloin), chicken wings, curly dried chillies, small red onions (India) and garlic (China).
The price control list for Gawai celebrations includes live pigs, pork (meat, fat, and belly), live old chickens, chicken wings, and round cabbage imported from Indonesia and China, except Beijing cabbage, garlic from China, and dried curly chillies. — Bernama

KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah leader expressed disappointment that the planned meeting to address the state's 40% revenue entitlement scheduled for Monday (June 30) never took place. Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan revealed that the Sabah Cabinet had agreed for the state to host the crucial meeting and that he had written to the Chief Minister to initiate the process. "I wrote to the Chief Minister. It was based on his suggestion that Sabah host a meeting on June 30. The Prime Minister's Department (PMO) was informed, and the Chief Minister brought the letter to the Cabinet. Everyone agreed. We were supposed to send the letter to the PMO, but when we checked, it had not been sent," said Kitingan at the Sabah STAR ninth anniversary gathering launch on Tuesday (July 1). Kitingan noted that the letter was supposed to be sent by the Sabah State Secretary's office. In voicing frustration over the hiccups, he said it causes a setback to federal-state relations. "I do not know why it was not sent, even though everything had been agreed upon. I have asked for an explanation and am still waiting. This meeting was supposed to mark real progress on the 40% revenue issue," he said. In another development, Kitingan also expressed disappointment over recent developments concerning the Ambalat maritime boundary, criticising the lack of consultation with Sabah. "That area falls within Sabah's territory. If that is true, and Sabah was not consulted, it is not right. We need clarification, and I will request an official explanation. "If there has been a formal protest from Sabah, we will wait for a response. This may take time. I may raise the matter in the next parliamentary session," he said. Kitingan was referring to the agreement between Malaysia and Indonesia to adopt a joint development approach to manage long-standing maritime border disputes, including the resource-rich and contested Ambalat Block. This commitment was made during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on June 27. The Ambalat dispute dates back to the 1970s and centres around overlapping maritime claims in the Sulawesi Sea. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee is urging the Federal and Sabah governments to present the recent Malaysia-Indonesia bilateral agreement, particularly regarding the Ambalat Block, to both Parliament and the Sabah State Assembly for debate and transparency before any deal is finalised. "Malaysia's claim over the Ambalat area has historical backing from the 2002 ICJ Ligitan-Sipadan ruling, and any move resembling the previous Blocks L and M controversy must be avoided," he said. Terengganu Football Association (PBSNT) chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim said the state FA has compiled a shortlist of several suitable candidates to lead the club, in line with the full privatisation plan for the club to move towards professional management. He said the final selection is underway and a closed interview would be conducted next week to select the most qualified and credible candidate to lead the club to greater heights. 'This time we will bring in a corporate figure to manage TFC. We need to fully embrace privatisation for the development of the club. 'We will announce the person as soon as possible, within this month after interviews and approval from the board of directors,' he said when met at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Terengganu Football Sdn Bhd (TFCSB) and the Terengganu Incorporated Group (Trg Inc) here today. At the ceremony, Trg Inc, represented by Chief Executive Officer Datuk Burhanuddin Hilmi Mohamed, handed over a sponsorship worth RM1.65 million to support TFC in the upcoming 2025/26 Malaysia League season. Burhanuddin said the sponsorship in the form of money and services represents a RM150,000 increase from the previous season. China, Sabah pledge closer ties in tourism, culture, development

KOTA KINABALU (July 1): The new Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Zhu Xinglong, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew on Monday. Consul General Zhu said under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and Malaysia, bilateral relations have reached a historic high, and the prospects for cooperation between the two countries are broad. 'China is Sabah's largest source of international tourists,' he said. The Consul General expressed willingness to work closely with the minister to implement the important consensus reached by the two countries' leaders, and to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between China and Sabah in areas such as governance, civilisational dialogue, cultural industries, tourism and poverty alleviation, in a joint effort to build a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
