Man beats sex worker to death and dumps body in drain, held
After the severely decomposed body, wrapped in a bedsheet, was recovered on Monday afternoon, police scanned several CCTV camera feeds from nearby areas and zeroed in on a man on a blue scooter, who was allegedly seen crossing the spot.
The rider had halted briefly near the spot and thrown something in the drain.
ACP Wave City Priyashri Pal said cops traced the rider using the vehicle's registration number and arrested Nazar Mohammad of Sain Vihar. Police believe Nazar killed the woman, a sex worker, for her jewellery. During interrogation, Nazar claimed he had known the woman for several years, but had lost contact about four years ago. They recently reconnected, and on July 26, he invited the woman to his residence in Crossings Republik.

Hyderabad: 1,247 children rescued in city
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police along with the Child Welfare Committee successfully conducted Operation Muskaan XI in the month of July and rescued a total of 1,247 children, including 560 from other states across India. The operation was conducted including the departments - Labour Department, Department of Women and Child Welfare, Child Line, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Juvenile Bureau (JB) Unit, and various NGOs from July 1 to July 31. This intensive month-long operation was aimed at identifying and rescuing children involved in child labour, begging and those found in vulnerable conditions on streets and other unsafe environments. According to the police, a total of 28 dedicated divisional teams were constituted across the city for this special drive. These teams carried out inspections and rescue operations at various commercial establishments, traffic junctions, bus stations, railway stations, construction sites, and other suspected locations. The teams worked round the clock and displayed exceptional commitment in safeguarding the rights and dignity of children. Viswaprasad, Addl. CP Crimes said 'In the operation, a total of 1,247 children were rescued, including 1,173 boys and 74 girls. Among these rescued children, 673 belong to Telangana State, while 560 were identified as hailing from other states across India.' He said, notably, 14 children were found to be from Nepal. To ensure stringent legal action against the perpetrators, the police have registered 55 FIRs in various police stations against employers who were found engaging children in illegal labour practices. Furthermore, 939 cases under the Minimum Wages Act have been booked and fine an amount of Rs 47,75,921 against erring employers. Under the direct supervision of Viswaprasad IPS, Addl. CP Crimes, we conducted a coordination meeting with all stakeholders at the outset of Operation Muskaan XI, followed by a follow-up video conference with 28 divisional teams. This initiative motivated the teams to perform effectively and contributed to the success of Operation Muskaan XI.

Fraudsters tried to dupe us saying they would sue Boeing: Family of AI 171 victim
The Udaipur police have lodged an FIR after some men allegedly tried to dupe and mislead the family members of Vardi Chand Menaria, who lost his life in the Air India flight AI 171 to London which crashed moments after taking off in Ahmedabad on June 12. The men, allegedly posing as representatives of the central government and a Supreme Court lawyer, claimed that they would get the family Rs 8-10 crore compensation, and pressured them to sign certain documents. While the incident is from July 18-19, the FIR was lodged on July 29 on the directions of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). It has been lodged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 329 (3) for 'criminal trespass', which carries a maximum imprisonment of up to three months and a fine of Rs 5,000. In his complaint, Menaria's son Deepak Menaria said that on the evening of July 17, he received a call from a person who identified himself as one Bhupendra, saying that he will come for verification on behalf of the central government. 'I was told that a team from Delhi and Mumbai will come to my house and 'secret verification' will be done, so for this, a copy of my late father's passport and ticket will be needed. They tried to lure me saying that if I file a case against Boeing, I will get Rs 8-10 crore,' he wrote in his complaint. In a purported audio recording of the call, the man is heard telling Deepak to keep it a secret, because if he speaks about it to relatives, they may start seeking money too. 'On July 18, around 7:45 pm, a man and a woman reached my house in Rundeda in a Gujarat numbered vehicle. Both of them entered my house and started talking in a confusing manner to my mother. My mother called and told me that two people had come. I immediately reached home and found them sitting in my house, claiming to be from the Supreme Court,' he said. 'They pressured me and my mother to put my thumb impression and sign some documents. When I asked them the purpose, they spoke about a case against Boeing in America. He claimed an FIR was lodged only after he approached the DLSA. Udaipur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal said that, 'An FIR has been lodged. As per the primary inquiry, some advocates and some locals wanted (the family) to become their client and file a case against the airline. They wanted to take their consent, as per the initial investigation. However, the family says that they were persisting on a regular basis.'

Police get 5-day custody of key accused in surrogacy racket
Hyderabad: A Nampally court on Friday granted five-day police custody of Dr Athaluri Namrata, who is accused of running an illegal surrogacy and sperm racket in the city. Dr Namrata ran Universal Shrushti Fertility Centre in Secunderabad along with her son, Pachipala Jayanth Krishna. Both have been named prime accused in operating an illegal surrogacy racket. On July 26, the Gopalapuram police raided the centre after a couple from Rajasthan lodged a complaint stating that the baby they received through surrogacy from Shrishti Fertility Center was not biologically related to them. According to police investigations, it is alleged that the clinic collected between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh from several couples for surrogacy-related services. Officials say over 30 such cases are currently under review. While investigations are ongoing, authorities are examining whether clients were misled and whether proper procedures, including legal and medical protocols, were followed. Police revealed that Namrata had been operating her centres without a valid medical licence since 2021. The centre had no clinical establishment licence and was operating in complete violation of health regulations.
