More than 100 aid groups warn ‘mass starvation' spreading across Gaza

More than 100 aid organisations warned on Wednesday that 'mass starvation' was spreading in Gaza ahead of the US top envoy's visit to Europe for talks on a possible ceasefire and an aid corridor.

Israel is facing mounting international pressure over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory, where more than two million people face severe shortages of food and other essentials after 21 months of conflict, triggered by Hamas' attack on Israel.
The UN said on Tuesday that Israeli forces had killed more than 1,000 Palestinians trying to get food aid since the US - and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation started operations in late May - effectively sidelining the existing UN-led system.
A statement with 111 signatories, including Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), Save the Children and Oxfam, warned that 'our colleagues and those we serve are wasting away'.

The groups called for an immediate negotiated ceasefire, the opening of all land crossings and the free flow of aid through UN-led mechanisms.

Cambodia seeks immediate ceasefire with Thailand after 2 days of deadly strikes

Cambodia wants an 'immediate ceasefire' with Thailand, the country's envoy to the United Nations said on Friday, after the neighbours traded deadly strikes for a second day. A long-running border dispute erupted into intense fighting with aircraft, artillery, tanks and ground troops on Thursday, prompting the Security Council to hold an emergency meeting on the crisis on Friday. 'Cambodia asked for an immediate ceasefire – unconditionally – and we also call for the peaceful solution of the dispute,' Cambodia's ambassador Chhea Keo said following a closed meeting of the council attended by Cambodia and Thailand. The envoy questioned how Thailand, a regional military heavyweight, could accuse Cambodia, its smaller neighbour, of attacking it. '[The Security Council] called for both parties to [show] maximum restraint and resort to a diplomatic solution. That is what we are calling for as well,' Chhea Keo said. 05:08 Thailand-Cambodia border fighting drives mass exodus as attacks mount Thailand-Cambodia border fighting drives mass exodus as attacks mount None of the other attendees spoke to reporters.

Trump says Hamas doesn't want Gaza deal: ‘I think they want to die'

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Hamas did not want a ceasefire deal in Gaza, after Israel and the United States quit indirect negotiations with the Palestinian militant group. Advertisement 'It was too bad. Hamas didn't really want to make a deal. I think they want to die,' Trump said. In Qatar, mediators had been shuttling between Israeli and Hamas delegations for more than two weeks in a bid to secure a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages after nearly two years of fighting. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his government was still seeking a deal despite recalling its negotiators from Doha. Trump blamed Hamas, saying 'now we're down to the final hostages, and they know what happens after you get the final hostages'. UK, France and Germany say Gaza ‘humanitarian catastrophe must end now'

The leaders of Britain, France and Germany demanded Israel allow unrestricted aid into Gaza to end a 'humanitarian catastrophe', after French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his country would become the first major Western power to recognise a Palestinian state. The joint statement, issued after a call between Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, called for an immediate ceasefire and said that 'withholding essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable', though it broke no new diplomatic ground. The leaders said they 'stand ready to take further action to support an immediate ceasefire and a political process that leads to lasting security and peace for Israelis, Palestinians and the entire region', but did not say what that action might be. Macron's surprise announcement exposed differences among the European allies, known as the E3, over how to ease the worsening humanitarian crisis and end the Israel-Gaza war. All three support a Palestinian state in principle, but Germany said it has no immediate plans to follow France's step, which Macron plans to formalise at the United Nations General Assembly in September. Health Secretary Wes Streeting on Tuesday called for an announcement 'while there's still a state of Palestine left to recognise'.
