Myntra aims to stream glamour through stories, stars and songs
The company, which has onboarded film stars such as Zeenat Aman, Vijay Deverakonda, Raveena Tandon, and Tabu and rapper Badshah to feature in lifestyle content spanning fiction and songs, will allow users to shop products displayed or used in the content.
Glamstream was rolled out on Friday with over 4,000 content episodes spanning 500-plus hours.
'We've noticed that over 70% of shoppers rely on influencer content to make purchases and are looking for relatability in what they buy. While we've been putting out content featuring influencers on our app for a year-and-a-half, we are adding celebrity videos now,'Sunder Balasubramanian, chief marketing officer, Myntra, said in an interview. The company has onboarded over 100 celebrities for this initiative that will include everything from styling shows to podcasts and music videos, he added.
To be sure, Myntra isn't new to the social commerce game. In 2021, it had announced the launch of M-Live, a live video streaming and live commerce section, on its app that built on its existing plank of content-led commerce initiatives such as Myntra Studio and Myntra Fashion Superstar. The former is a personalised content destination and provides users access to over 20,000 fashion, beauty, and lifestyle tips and ideas. Myntra Fashion Superstar is an online reality show that works as a talent platform to identify emerging fashion and beauty influencers.
Content-led commerce is booming in India, with platforms and brands leveraging stories, songs, and music by digital creators and influencers to drive product discovery and sales.Influencer-led social commerce platforms like Trell and Roposo lead the surge, while some other brands have integrated content and commerce through acquisitions and in-house content creation.
Roposo, for example, focuses on creator-led live commerce, where creators can host their own pop-up stores and engage with users through live streams. Short video platform Moj has partnered with Flipkart, allowing users to purchase Flipkart-tagged products directly from within the videos.
Similarly, social commerce platform Meesho focuses on an assisted shopping model, empowering women entrepreneurs to resell products, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.Industry experts point out that innovations in video marketing—both through short-video apps and social commerce apps, have aided the surge that took place in online shopping during the pandemic. They allow for a click on products for purchase, often with the video being played on the side. According to a Bain& Company report in 2020, social commerce in India (in terms of gross merchandise value) is projected to reach $16-20 billion by 2025 and $60-70 billion by 2030.
In the Ficci-EY media and entertainment report 2025, Anupriya Acharya, chief executive officer of Publicis Groupe South Asia, had said that the media and entertainment sector is evolving with consolidation, quick commerce, and niche influencers. 'AI, data, and tech-driven storytelling will deepen content, commerce, and community convergence, making 2025 a pivotal year for interactive, shoppable experiences,' she had added.
Balasubramanian said the idea of the latest initiative is to marry inspiration and shopping at a unique scale, given the company's 70 million monthly active user base. 'The future of shopping is content-led commerce,' he added.

Allegations of tender irregularity, fraud at Deocha-Pachami coal project ‘baseless': WBPDCL
The West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL) on Friday (July 4, 2025) refuted allegations of tender breach and financial fraud made by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on the tendering process behind the Deocha-Pachami-Dewanganj-Harisingha (DPDH) coal mining project in West Bengal's Birbhum. A senior official of the WBPDCL told The Hindu on Friday that the CPI(M)'s demand for a judicial probe into the tendering process of the coal project 'makes no sense'. CPI(M) State Secretary Mohammad Salim on Thursday had accused the Trinamool government and WBPDCL of breach of tender guidelines, violations of allotment agreement, and miscategorisation of the coal mine 'to bypass the need for environmental clearances and public hearings.' Addressing CPI(M)'s allegations of irregularities in the tendering process, the WBPDCL official said that the tendering process was conducted on a national e-procurement system operated by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). 'A total of 11 companies had shown interest, of which eight had qualified and participated in the tender process. Five of them were from other States like Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand. Of them, the company with the highest bid value of 71.5% revenue share was selected. This means, in a revenue sharing model, 71.5% of the profit would go to the government,' the official claimed. They added that this is the highest bid value received by any company pertaining to basalt or stone mining so far in the State, for this kind of tender. WBPDCL also refuted allegations that clearances were not obtained and the mining plan was not submitted before mining operations began at the DPDH project. 'All necessary clearances have been obtained. A series of statutory clearances and permissions is required to operate a mine. We have obtained the necessary permissions, submitted our mining plan, secured consent to operate from the Director General of Mines Safety, and obtained other requisite clearances. It must be remembered that DPDH is a continuous project which will go on for months and years,' the WBPDCL official said. The official further stated that the reason basalt had to be mined before coal is that, unlike in other coal mines, the coal in the DPDH project is trapped under a layer of basalt, which is 80 metres to 200 metres thick. 'How can we mine the coal if we do not mine the basalt first? It is not clear why questions are being raised on the ongoing basalt mining project given these circumstances,' the official said. CPI(M) leader Mr. Salim had raised questions on why a power development corporation was concerned with the basalt mining work at the DPDH mine. On the CPI(M)'s allegations that the mining work was started in a 12-acre area 'to deliberately bypass the need for clearances and a public hearing needed for a mine of a bigger scale', the WBPDCL official told The Hindu that 'it is not possible to start mining operations in the entirety of the 3,500 acre project area at once.' However, the CPI(M) had also alleged the tender guidelines were breached when the company selected as the mine developer and operator at DPDH, 'Trancemarine and Confreight Logistics Private Limited', reportedly underwent an acquisition after being awarded the contract. No clarification was given on this matter. The CPI(M) State Secretary, Mr. Salim had alleged that the acquisition and consequent ownership change of the selected company violates WBPDCL's own tender conditions and 'hints at deep corruption in the DPDH project'. It is worth noting that there have also been prolonged and widespread protests in the Mohammed Bazar block of Birbhum district, where locals accused the government of 'tricking them into surrendering land' for the DPDH coal project in exchange for lucrative benefits.

Apple hits pause on its plan to compete with Amazon, Microsoft and Google cloud
Apple reportedly explored a venture into the public cloud market, intending to launch its own cloud services powered by its high-performance M-series chips to rival giants like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. However, according to a report from The Information (via macrumors), the company has seemingly put this initiative on hold. Apple's Project ACDC: An affordable, efficient cloud The report said that the initiative, internally known as Project ACDC (Apple Chips in Data Centers), aimed to offer developers direct access to Apple's proprietary M-series chips. The core idea was to provide a more affordable and more efficient alternative to traditional cloud platforms, which typically rely on Intel processors or GPU-heavy servers. Apple's M-series chips are renowned for their computing efficiency and AI inferencing capabilities, making them an attractive foundation for a new cloud service. The report said that Apple already utilises its M-series chips beyond its consumer devices like Macs and iPads. The company began testing these chips in data centers with the introduction of Private Cloud Compute (PCC), designed to handle complex AI queries when on-device processing isn't sufficient. Furthermore, key Apple services such as Siri , Photos, and Music have also gained access to M-series chips to enhance performance, particularly in areas like search, potentially laying the groundwork for a much-needed upgrade to Siri. Project ACDC is said to be envisioned as an Apple-centric initiative, with plans to offer the service to developers via its existing Developer Relations team. This would enable developers to design iOS and macOS apps directly on Apple's silicon, reducing their reliance on expensive third-party GPUs. Leadership departure leading to uncertain future The Information reports that the future of Project ACDC remains uncertain, especially after Michael Abbott, the executive who previously led the initiative, left Apple in 2023. While discussions reportedly continued into early 2024, no concrete plans for a public launch have materialised. AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now
