We made a huge booking mistake and turned up for our flight to Spain one year early
Rafael Karoulla, 28, and his sister, Maggie, 30, packed their cases and headed to London Gatwick Airport on June 29.
They had booked an easyJet flight to Barcelona, Spain where Maggie lives and were looking forward to the trip together.
However, they were baffled to discover they couldn't check-in online.
The pair soon realised they had accidentally paid £100 each for tickets for 2026 instead of 2025.
Birmingham Live reported Rafael said: 'I was really confident it was 2025. You wouldn't think you could book for a year ahead.'
He revealed he started to laugh when he noticed their huge error.
The siblings had been on a trip around Thailand, stopped over in Rome, Italy, before they headed to London for the connecting flight to Barcelona.
Rafael explained that he had booked so many flights that he didn't see the mistake at first.
'I was booking so many flights, I didn't check that much,' he admitted.
He shared how Maddie was 'miffed' but also managed to laugh 'at the same time'.
The pair still secured plane tickets for the same day and paid £70 each.
'We still have another ticket for next year - but we probably won't use it,' Rafael added.
He admitted he previously didn't even realise it was possible to book flights that far in advance but would be more careful in the future.
Another travelling duo found themselves stuck when they t hought they had booked a flight to San Jose, Costa Rica.
Instead they were in for a huge shock when they landed in San Jose, California... and the blunder ultimately cost them thousands of dollars.
Lynne, 25, from Brooklyn, New York, was excited to visit the Central American country with her best friend in December 2022.
They boarded a flight from LaGuardia airport to North Carolina, then after a short layover, took another flight to their final destination.
After a long travel day, they were especially looking forward to getting to their hostel in stunning Costa Rica so they could get some sleep.
But instead, they found themselves in a totally different place... as it turns out, they had accidentally booked a flight to a city with the same name in California.
What came next was a travel nightmare consisting of multiple flights, a long layover that saw them sleeping in an airport, and thousands of extra dollars spent on finally getting them to their destination.

Meanwhile queues became so big on Thursday last week drivers exited their cars and waited by the side of the road - despite warnings that this was unsafe. Doug Bannister, chief executive at the Port of Dover, has previously said that the organisation has been 'preparing for a busy summer'. He said: 'We know how vital it is to keep things moving, not just for holidaymakers but for our local community too. 'That's why we've boosted staff levels, strengthened traffic management, added welfare facilities and introduced AI-powered forecasting - all to minimise disruption and ensure both residents and travellers have the best possible experience during this busy season.' This year's summer getaway is expected to see the biggest number of midweek car trips made since records began. Experts at the RAC estimated drivers planning 13.9million journeys between Monday July 21 and Thursday 24 July. RAC mobile servicing and repairs team leader Nick Mullender said:'Normally the weekend bears the brunt of getaway traffic but this year we're expecting 'midweek mayhem'. 'We typically see a peak on 'Frantic Friday' when holidaymakers share the roads with commuters heading home, but our figures indicate these trips will now be spread across several days with millions more weekday journeys planned. "To avoid the worst of the traffic, travel outside peak times and steer well clear of morning and evening rush hours. 'If a getaway journey involves hours in the car, it's essential to be well rested and fresh for the trip. "If possible, share the driving with another passenger to ensure concentration levels stay high, while those travelling with children should pack plenty of entertainment to keep them occupied and minimise questions of 'are we there yet?'. Water, snacks and phone chargers are essential! 'Before setting off, drivers should do whatever they can to avoid their vehicles letting them down, like checking oil and coolant levels as well as the condition and tread on all tyres. "There's also still time to book an RAC Mobile Mechanic who can carry out a wide range of repairs at home or work, as well conducting a full or interim service.' The busy port has undergone a huge renovation in recent months, which reportedly cost a £6billion. Previously only able to accommodate ships with a maximum length of 320m, it can now allow boats of up to 350m to moor at Dover. A statement from the Port of Dover following the upgrade said that it can now welcome 'some of the largest cruise ships in the world'.
