Mega bucks Celtic signing sent four week warning as Brendan Rodgers to rubber-stamp new transfer
The transfer window closes on September 1 but Celts still have plenty of work to do Scott Allan reckons misfiring striker Adam Idah has four weeks to save his Celtic career before the transfer window closes. The £9million Irishman drew a blank on Flag Day as super-sub Luke McCowan spared the Hoops' blushes with a late winner against St Mirren. Idah has blown hot and cold since his mega-bucks move from Norwich City last summer and continues to split the Parkhead faithful. The 24-year-old was hooked for Johnny Kenny on Sunday as Celts chased a breakthrough but Brendan Rodgers is desperately searching for more firepower. And former Hoops midfielder Allan believes the coming weeks could make-or-break Idah's chances of nailing down the No.9 jersey. He told BBC Sportsound: "It's a big four weeks for Idah until the window closes. He has four weeks to show. Is he ready to be the number one striker for Celtic? "If not, then I think you will see someone coming in that position. You will see them spend a considerable amount of money on that position as well in the next four weeks, if he doesn't get off to the start that he was expected to." Meanwhile Allan has hailed Reo Hatate as the best playmaker in Scotland. The Japan star, 27, is one of the first names on Rodgers' team sheet and sparkled against the Buddies, even hitting the woodwork. Allan is his biggest fan as he raved: "For me, Reo Hatate is the best midfielder in the country in terms of the creative areas and he's got the end product to go with it. He's got that through pass that we see time and time again." Incoming Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey was spotted in the stands on Sunday and is expected to rubber-stamp his season-long loan deal in the next 24 hours.

Brian Barry-Murphy has already made massive Cardiff City calls – but his biggest are yet to come
Brian Barry-Murphy has already made massive Cardiff City calls – but his biggest are yet to come The new Bluebirds head coach has really stamped his authority in a short period of time and it's breathed new life into the team Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy (Image: PA Wire) Brian Barry-Murphy hasn't wasted any time stamping his authority on this Cardiff City squad. In just a matter of weeks since taking the reins, the new head coach has already made some huge decisions — but arguably, the most defining ones are still to come. His first few days in the job saw him inform long-serving midfielder Joe Ralls and fellow senior pro Andy Rinomhota that they were no longer part of his plans. It was a ruthless move, particularly in the case of Ralls, who has been part of the club's furniture for a decade and a half. Both players are now free to find new clubs. Then came the opening day of the season — and more bold calls. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community. On the eve of the campaign, Barry-Murphy, though led by a squad vote, emboldened Rubin Colwill by choosing him as the club's vice-captain behind the experienced Calum Chambers. A move which seemed to pay off on the first day of the season, when Colwill, wearing the arm band in Chambers' absence, ran the show in a 2-1 comeback win over Peterborough United. Barry-Murphy handed full league debuts to three players: goalkeeper Matt Turner, teenager Dylan Lawlor and Joel Colwill. Colwill even played in midfield ahead of David Turnbull, who was left out of the squad entirely after breaching the club's code of conduct which another show of no-nonsense ruthlessness from the Irishman. The team Barry-Murphy fielded for Saturday's 2-1 win over Peterborough United had an average age of just 22. In League One — a physically demanding and unforgiving division — that is a bold move and one he's been lauded for. Article continues below Cardiff were vibrant, energetic and fearless, but it's fair to expect that such youthfulness may also bring moments of inconsistency over the course of a 46-game campaign. Despite all the shake-ups, at the time of writing, Cardiff are still yet to bring in a single new signing this summer. And that's where Barry-Murphy's most critical work lies ahead. Chairman Mehmet Dalman said at the weekend that a goalkeeper — understood to be Nathan Trott — is due to come in shortly, while another deal is also "very close". A couple of loan deals should round off the summer, but getting these signings right will be paramount if Cardiff are to sustain a title tilt until next May. Barry-Murphy has previously stated that he is looking to strengthen all areas, but defence likely needs most work. Ronan Kpakio put in a stunning display on the opening day, but his teenage partner Dylan Lawlor endured a sterner test. And that's how it will be this season, these talented prospects are finding their feet, but have vast, untapped potential, which is what makes it so exciting. Joel Bagan needs competition at left-back, while centre-back is likely an area which needs strengthening. A winger would be on the wishlist, too, it is understood. Intervening in an attempt to tie down Dylan Lawlor to a new deal should be somewhere near the top of his agenda, too. But the squad, while full of promising talent, is light on experienced depth — particularly in defence. The Bluebirds shipped 73 league goals last season and leaked 70 the season before. They didn't look airtight against Posh on Saturday, either. So far, though, the early signs of the Barry-Murphy era are hugely encouraging. Article continues below The boldness, the bravery, the backing of youth — all of it has gone down well with fans. But the next few weeks, particularly in the transfer market, will tell us more about how far Cardiff can really go this season. Because these calls — who to bring in, how to balance youth with experience, how to turn potential into consistency — will ultimately determine whether the early optimism can be sustained. That being said, no one is writing off these kids yet – and any newcomer will have to scrap tooth and nail to get the shirt of them, if the early signs are anything to go by. Jake Paul needs just six brutal words to shut down Conor McGregor
McGregor has hinted a return to action over the last few months and - following his latest training video - Paul has offered his brutal verdict Jake Paul brutally ripped into Conor McGregor after the UFC legend uploaded another video of him training amid talks of a potential return. The Irishman has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier back in 2021. McGregor was due to make his return to the cage last year against Michael Chandler, but was forced to withdraw from the contest after picking up an injury in training. Recently, US president Donald Trump confirmed his ambitious plan to host a UFC event at the White House. Many fighters have expressed their interested in taking part on the card - including McGregor. Over the last few weeks, the 37-year-old has ramped up training. Last week, the 'Notorious' shared a series of videos and photos in which he can be seen having blood taken and even giving a urine sample to testers. 'I gave my first blood test that is what the plaster is on my shoulder,' McGregor captioned a video of himself breathing into the camera. 'I am ECSTATIC! I'm in SHAPE! #illtakeyourheadoffforreal #fullgrown @ufc #TheBig20.' On his Instagram story, he shared a photo of a blood testing kit, as well as photos of his urine and blood being taken. In one picture, he can be seen hold a cup of his sample. "I p*** excellence," he said. McGregor has been enjoying some time away with his family, but still has time on his hands to post the occasional training video. The former dual-weight UFC champion took to social media, showing off some shadow boxing along with some sharp high kicks. Many have been left excited about the prospect of McGregor returning, but one man who has been left unconvinced is Paul - who commented under the footage: "Bro just give it up lol." Both McGregor and Paul have traded barbs over the last few months. Back in January, the UFC legend threatened to slap both Jake and Logan Paul during a fiery and intense confrontation in Washington. The Irishman issued a chilling threat to the pair on a bus on the way to Trump's inauguration. "This is the real deal, you know that bro. We'll do it,' McGregor said. 'We can do what? 190, 195lbs? [Jake] was sick. He was sick over it! Listen, here's the deal. I'm going to slap the head off the two of you and KSI. 'You are nixers to me. Do you understand that? Side jobs.' Despite being left baffled by the comments, Logan refused to back down as was quick to take a swipe at McGregor's inactivity in the UFC. "You can't even do your main job,' he joked. 'How are you going to do a side job?' McGregor's business partner, BKFC supremo Dave Feldman, recently revealed the Irishman has re-entered the UFC testing pool. In a chat with Ariel Helwani, Feldman confirmed McGregor's plan to fight next year. "He's got two fights left on his contract. He's got to get right," he said. "The whole world is waiting. Is he going to get in shape and fight? He told me in person, he whispered in my ear, he said, 'I'm in the testing pool. I'm getting ready to make my comeback. I'm going to fight on that big card, then I'm going to have another fight, and then we can talk.'" When is Jake Paul's next fight? Following his victory over Julio Chavez Jr back in June, Paul is set to compete once more before the year concludes. The American is now eligible to challenge for a world championship after being included in the WBC's cruiserweight rankings following his triumph over the former middleweight titleholder. The 28-year-old's manager disclosed that his business associate is eager to compete for a world crown 'as soon as possible'. Nevertheless, he acknowledges it's unlikely to be his next bout, given the current situation at 200lbs. "Absolutely [he will fight again this year]. November or December," Bidarian told Ariel Helwani when asked about Paul's next steps. "I'm seeing him tonight for dinner, and we will have a conversation [about his next opponent]. The only possibility right now is that Jake wants to fight for a belt as soon as possible. I have to talk to him, I think it's tough this year [to box for a world title]. Badou Jack is who he wants to fight more than anyone, and he has a mandatory rematch with the guy he just beat [Noel Mikaelian] for the WBC. I don't know if this year is possible [for the title fight], but we'll see."
