'Leadership crisis, incompetence': Mallikarjun Kharge takes jibe at BJP; blames it for Gujarat bridge tragedy
NEW DELHI: Congress President
Mallikarjun Kharge
on Thursday took a sharp dig at the BJP-led central government, claiming that recent national tragedies are a result of "leadership crisis," "rampant corruption," and "incompetence.
"
Referring to incidents like the Gujarat bridge collapse and the Ahmedabad plane crash, Kharge accused the government of crossing all 'limits of indifference' and failing in its governance responsibilities.
The Gambhira bridge collapse on Wednesday has so far claimed 15 lives, with rescue operations underway. Officials confirmed that three more bodies were recovered on Thursday, and four people remain missing, as reported by ANI.
Taking to X, Kharge expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He said that accidents such as train derailments, newly inaugurated bridges cracking, and deadly crashes have become frequent. Referring to the recent Ahmedabad plane crash that killed over 240 people, Kharge said the country had not yet recovered from that tragedy when another struck.
"Accidents have become a common occurrence in the country.

Sometimes a train accident, sometimes a bridge developing cracks right after its inauguration. The country hasn't even recovered from the plane crash when news of a bridge collapse in Gujarat came yesterday. 12 innocent lives were lost," he wrote.
He cited reports suggesting that the bridge was declared 'dangerous' three years ago due to 'vibrations,' yet no action was taken. Since 2021, this is the 7th incident of a bridge collapse in Gujarat," he added.
Kharge further claimed that said the
BJP
government is only focused on 'speeches and advertising,' and added, 'this is the result of a Leadership Crisis, rampant corruption, lack of capacity to run the government, and Incompetence."
The Gambhira bridge connected Vadodara and Anand and collapsed into the Mahisagar river, sending vehicles, including two trucks, two pickup vans, and a rickshaw, into the water. Vadodara collector Anil Dhameliya said that search and rescue teams, including the
NDRF
and SDRF, were working up to 4 km downstream despite rising river levels and rain.
He added that two vehicles are stuck in the sludge at the site and officials were trying to identify them. One empty tanker truck is hanging from the broken edge of the bridge, and efforts are underway to stabilise it.
"The death toll stands at 15 now with recovery of 3 more bodies today. Four people remain missing. National disaster response force (NDRF) and state disaster response force (SDRF) are conducting search and rescue operations even till 4 km downstream," said Dhameliya as quoted by ANI.

Naini slams BRS leaders for baseless remarks
Launching scathing attack on BRS leaders and corporators, MLA Naini Rajender Reddy said that some people without proper subject knowledge have been making statements. He participated as chief guest and inaugurated development works in the 4rth division's Jyotibasunagar Colony on Friday. They included a CC road constructed with Rs 25 lakh and another CC road from Akshara Colony to the main road built at a cost of Rs 49.9 lakh. The MLA interacted with residents and listened to their issues. Recently, verbal clashes have intensified between the BRS and Congress corporators and leaders. Each side is conducting media conferences, challenging one another to public debates. Against this backdrop, the MLA strongly responded during his inauguration speech. He emphasised that funds were sanctioned with intent to involve everyone in the development process, regardless of party affiliation, because people across all divisions had voted for them with trust. He warned that he would present detailed evidence before the media comparing the works done during BRS's rule with the development achieved in just 18 months under the government. He stated that during BRS rule, funds were deliberately not allocated to divisions with Congress corporators, but under this government, public development and welfare are the main priorities. He mentioned that even in divisions with BJP and BRS corporators, funds are now being allocated on an equal basis. He criticised some BRS corporators for boycotting a recent Ballia council meeting not to fight for people's issues, but for political gain. As an MLA elected with the cooperation of everyone, he said he is working impartially and allocating funds for development without forgetting anyone. Since the Congress came to power, he said, with the support of CM, funds are being sanctioned for development of all colonies. In just 18 months, about Rs 4.5 crore has been allocated solely for the development of colonies in the division. Reddy stressed that understanding and solving public issues is his primary responsibility; development works taken up in colonies with the cooperation of GWMC and KUDA are progressing rapidly. He instructed officials and contractors to work in coordination to ensure the newly launched projects are completed within a short time.

From ‘Hindu Hriday Samrat' to BJP rebel: T Raja Singh's rise, rifts and road ahead in Telangana Politics
HYDERABAD: Suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh , often dismissed by critics as a rabble-rouser, remains a potent and polarising symbol of hardline Hindutva in Telangana. For his supporters and admirers, however, he is more than just a voice of outrage — he is revered as 'Hindu Hriday Samrat. ' From a humble start as a small entrepreneur, Singh's meteoric rise from corporator to three-time MLA from Goshamahal is as much a story of personal grit as it is of religious mobilisation. He remains the only elected representative from the Lodha community in the state, and his appeal rests heavily on his unabashed projection of Hindutva—often laced with provocation and political theatre. Singh's political style is marked by frequent controversies. With over 100 FIRs, mostly for hate speech and inciting communal tensions, he has often walked the edge of legality. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad Though ideologically drawn to the BJP, Singh's relationship with the party has been rocky. He threatened to quit multiple times over issues like cow slaughter and religious conversions. He fi nally secured a BJP ticket in 2014 with support from Union home minister Amit Shah and went on to win Goshamahal, retaining the seat for three consecutive terms. Goshamahal's unique demography — a mix of north Indian and Gujarati Hindus alongside a sizable Muslim population — allowed Singh to pitch himself as a Hindu protector. He has led rallies during Hanuman Jayanti and Ganesh Chaturthi, using the 52-foot Hanuman statue in Dhoolpet as a symbolic centrepiece. His outreach has extended to digital Hindutva too — releasing devotional music and reaching followers via WhatsApp and proxy YouTube channels even after social media bans. In 2018, Singh served as BJP's fl oor leader in the assembly. However, in 2023, the post went to Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, further straining ties. Singh withdrew from party activities and kept a low profi le until his resignation was formally accepted on June 30. While his next political move is unclear, Singh insists he remains committed to the Hindutva cause — still a rebel in Telangana's turbulent political theatre.

Now, Sena minister Shirsat in video with ‘wads of cash'
MUMBAI: A day after he admitted to receiving a notice from the Income Tax department regarding a surge in his assets, social justice minister Sanjay Shirsat was seen in a video seated on a bed with what appears to be bundles of currency notes in a bag beside him. The video of Sanjay Shirsat was shared online by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday. The video was shared online by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday. Shirsat, Shiv Sena MLA from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and a close aide of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, has rubbished the claim, saying the bag contained only clothes and sundry items. The video, which quickly went viral online, has evoked a flurry of reactions from the opposition. In his social media post while sharing the video, Raut said, 'Prime minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah need to see this exciting video. What's going on in the country? This video of a minister from Maharashtra explains a lot.' Raut added that he 'felt sorry' for chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. 'The second name of helplessness is Fadnavis. How many incidents of embarrassment Fadnavis is going to tolerate silently?' he remarked. Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray took a sharp jab at Shirsat, with a quick-witted comment. He said the purported cash in the bag was part of '50 khoke', referring to his party's allegation that each of the Shiv Sena MLAs who had defected with Eknath Shinde had been given ₹50 crore to switch loyalties. Thackeray added, 'He (Shirsat) just received an IT notice. With this video, at least now CM Fadnavis will take action in the matter.' Sena (UBT) group leader in the legislative assembly Bhaskar Jadhav went a step further, alleging that the video of Shirsat could expose a conflict within the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, of which the Sena is a constituent. 'We can see money in the bag. First an inquiry into a hotel deal involving his son, then an IT notice, and now this video with a bag of money. It seems someone in the ruling alliance does not want to see Shirsat as a cabinet minister and so this video was leaked,' alleged Jadhav. Shirsat defended himself, saying, 'It looks like I came back from travel and my travel bag was lying around with clothes and some other stuff. Even my pet dog is sitting nearby. It doesn't mean I am doing anything wrong.' How did a candid video of the minister end up being recorded in his home, in the first place? Shirsat said he could not tell when it was shot. Since he is a leader of the common man, a range of people have access to his home and some 'enthusiastic' party workers may have recorded the video, he claimed. This is the third time this week that Shirsat has been embroiled in controversy. On Monday, he was caught on the wrong foot over allegations that the auction of a hotel in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar had been manipulated to favour his son Siddhant. After the opposition levelled the allegation in the legislative assembly, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an investigation into the matter. The demand was made by the Sena (UBT). The video with the purported wads of cash is ill-timed for Shirsat, who on Thursday said he had received a notice from the Income Tax department, which has sought a clarification on a significant increase in his assets from 2019 to 2024.
