The SharkNinja pressure cooker has been recalled — here's what you need to know

NBC News02-05-2025
If you have a pressure cooker in your kitchen, you'll want to pay attention to this news: On May 1, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled more than 1.8 million SharkNinja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers. The organization says it has received over 100 reports of burn injuries caused by the popular kitchen appliance.
Below, find more details on what this announcement means, plus a list of pressure cookers you can use instead of the recalled SharkNinja model.
Why was Ninja's pressure cooker recalled?
As mentioned, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Committee just recalled more than 1.8 million SharkNinja Foodi OP300 Series Multi-Function Pressure Cookers because of reports of burn injuries caused by using the appliance. Over 50 of these reports included second- or third-degree burns to the face and body. People who sustained these injuries have also filed over two dozen lawsuits against SharkNinja.
In the reports, users said that the pressure cooker had a faulty lid that could be opened during use, allowing hot food and steam to escape and potentially causing burns. As a reminder, a pressure cooker is intended to stay locked while cooking so that steam and heat can build up, creating a very hot environment for cooking food.
The impacted SharkNinja products have a 6.5-quart capacity, Ninja branding on the front, and double as an air fryer. They were sold at retailers like Amazon, Target, Walmart and Costco between January 2019 and March 2025. The recalled model numbers can be found in the committee's official recall notice. If you have a SharkNinja pressure cooker, you can find your model number on the label on the side of the appliance.
If you do have one of the recalled models, you are instructed to contact SharkNinja at 888-370-1733 or sharkninja@rqa-inc.com and they can send you a replacement lid.
Highly rated pressure cookers to use instead
If you're looking to replace your pressure cooker, you'll find a few to consider below. All of these have either been previously recommended by experts, are favorites of an NBC Select staffer, or are highly rated.
This 6-quart pressure cooker can also steam, saute, warm or sterilize — plus, you can use it as a rice cooker or yogurt maker. It also has a delay start function, which allows you to set a future cooking time up to 24 hours in advance. The lid and inner pot are dishwasher-safe and this model includes a rack that can be used to steam veggies or as a trivet for the inner pot. 'Whenever I go home to visit my family, I always use my mom's Instant Pot,' says NBC Select commerce editor Cory Fernandez. 'I love using it to make chili from scratch and it makes it so well that you'd think it was cooking for hours on the stove.'
Another model from Instant Pot, this one can also serve as an air fryer (like the recalled models did). It has an 8-quart capacity, making it a good option for those with bigger families or who like to entertain. The large LCD is easy to read from across the room and some buttons allow you to save your preferred cooking times and temperatures, according to the brand. This pressure cooker has a steaming rack, air fryer basket and a storage cover.
Our Place makes some of NBC Select staffers' favorite cookware, and a number of their products are currently on sale on Amazon, including their Dream Cooker. In addition to acting as a pressure cooker, it can be used as a slow cooker or to saute or steam food. It also has a hands-free steam release. Instead of most pressure cookers' stainless steel inner pot, this one has an aluminum pan with a nonstick coating.
This pressure cooker has nine modes: pressure cook, rice steam, sterilize, oatmeal/porridge, stew/broth, bean/grain, meat/poultry, slow cook, saute, sous vide, ferment and keep warm. It has a dishwasher-safe lid and inner pot, and it comes with a steam rack and recipe book. According to the brand, the steam release button is also located on the opposite side of the lid from the steam vent to prevent injuries.
This may not have all the bells and whistles of the other models on the list, but it can do the pressure-cooking job. You heat it up on the stove, and it has a cover lock indicator that lets you know when pressure has built up inside and prevents the cover from being opened until that pressure is safely reduced, according to the brand.

Woman bombarded with hundreds of Amazon packages she never ordered

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A California woman's home become hell as she received hundreds of huge Amazon packages over the past year that she did not even order. The woman, who is identifying herself as Kay, got so many boxes that she stacked them in her driveway and they reached nearly up to shoulder height. There were so many that she feared she would no longer have space to park her car. 'When we come home, it was like this,' Kay told ABC7, gesturing at the packages at her doorstep. 'I couldn't even get my mother in the house… It's just been another form of hell.' Kay said that the massive pile is 'a fraction, because I have refused delivery on more packages than you see here'. The big boxes all contain faux-leather car seat covers from a China-based seller on Amazon, Liusandedian. The seller advertises seat covers of the brand Etkin, fitting a variety of sedan and SUV make and models. But based on the pile of returned boxes at Kay's home in San Jose, many customers were not satisfied. More than 40% of Liusandedian's reviews are a dismal one-star rating. Liusandedian apparently put Kay's address on the return labels, causing the mess. Many customers have not received refunds, and one review writer said she paid over $129 for the item and it would cost her $124 to return it. 'Oftentimes, what it costs to return it is about more than 50% of what they paid for it,' Kay said. 'Plus, these consumers aren't getting their money back!' Kay said she's reached out to Amazon multiple times and filed six complaints. 'Every time I was absolutely assured this will stop… You won't get any more of these packages, you'll hear from us in 24, 48 hours…' she said. But the packages have kept arriving, and even made it difficult for her 88-year-old disabled mother to visit. Kay said that Amazon told her to take the packages to USPS or FedEx or give them away or donate them. She said the e-commerce company only offered her a $100 gift card balance for the inconvenience. 'Why is it my responsibility to get rid of this, when your seller is not following your rules Amazon?' Kay said. On Wednesday, after KGO inquired with Amazon on the matter, the company finally sent personnel to take all the packages. More Trending 'We've apologized to the customer and are working directly with her to pick-up any packages while taking steps to permanently resolve this issue,' Amazon told KGO. Kay cried tears of joy. 'I was in tears that somebody actually got back to me… after a year of trying to get somebody to just listen to me,' she said. 'It was such a relief!' Ninja's portable grill might be compact, but it can air fry, bake, and more

Ninja woodfire grill set-up It's simple to set up and needs minimal assembly. The side arms need to be attached to the main unit, but that was easily accomplished with the included Allen wrench. The grease tray also needs to be inserted into the back of the unit. From there, all that was left to do was unpack the included grill plate, griddle plate, and fryer basket. After less than five minutes, I was ready to go. Ninja woodfire grill design One of the key attributes of this grill is how compact it is. At just over 30 pounds and 18 inches wide by 13 inches tall, the grill's footprint is fairly small. Despite this, there is still cooking space across the 141-square-inch for multiple steaks, a whole chicken, or plenty of vegetable kebabs. The exterior of the grill is constructed from weather-resistant porcelain steel for outdoor use in all seasons. While it does get warm during use, it's not hot enough to cause concern. On the front of the grill is a full, easy-to-read control panel, with a dial to choose your preferred cooking method. From there, you can adjust temperature settings and the timer, along with selecting the wood-fired flavor setting to ignite the smoking function. The wood pellets are housed in a small pellet hopper on the right side of the grill, with an included scoop for simple measuring. Cooking on the Ninja woodfire grill Cooking on the Ninja woodfire is incredibly intuitive. Once you select the cooking method from the dial, the grill begins its preheating process. I found it heated up quickly, regardless of the setting, with an indicator screen and notification sound when it's time to add food. The timer indicates when to flip food through the screen, and there's a beeping sound as well. There are top and bottom heating coils to provide even heat distribution. The grill also has a fan, creating a convection environment. Grilling provided ease of use without worrying about a flame. Cooking asparagus on the grill plate was excellent, allowing for grilled flavor without any worry about thinner pieces falling through a grate. In comparison to a gas grill, I did notice a bit more moisture while cooking vegetable kebabs, because there wasn't anywhere for excess water from the included zucchini to go. Cooking a steak with the wood-fired flavor setting turned on provided great flavor and beautiful grill marks. When it comes to smoking, I can't say this grill achieves as good a flavor result as an alternative smoker option. However, for an all-in-one electric choice, it still gets the job done. You can smoke multiple chicken breasts or a small pork shoulder with a more subtle smoked flavor, while still achieving a tender pull-apart texture. I was impressed that the appliance heated to 350 degrees on the baking setting in less than five minutes, allowing for a variety of baking projects. Unfortunately, a larger 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish won't fit inside the grill, but a deep 8-inch by 8-inch baking dish will. I baked a strawberry apple crisp in the grill, but found that the top heating component browned the dessert too quickly. This is important to keep in mind for any food being cooked on the bake or roast setting. However, that can be alleviated by covering the dish with aluminum foil to slow the browning process on top. Ninja woodfire grill clean-up The included grill and griddle plates are ceramic-coated and nonstick, which means they're not dishwasher safe. However, I found it incredibly simple to clean these pieces after use. Even after making glazed vegetable kebabs, which resulted in a sticky residue on the grill grate, running it until hot water and wiping it clean with a sponge was a breeze.
