Man dies after being tasered by WA police
Police were called to a property on Priestley St in Embelton about 12.30am on Friday following reports a man had entered a house occupied by people he did not know and smashed multiple windows.
'Police attended the residence and located the man in the rear of the garden of the property,' a police statement read.
'Officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he continued to behave in an aggressive manner.
'A taser was deployed by an officer and the man was restrained, and he appeared to suffer a medical episode.'
The West Australian reported the man was not conscious or breathing when paramedics were called to the home about 1.20am, and upon his arrival to hospital about 2.20am attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
WA Police Assistant Commissioner Martin Haime said an investigation would be conducted by officers from the internal investigations unit because the man had been in police custody prior to his death.
Police reported that officers administered first aid to the man and performed CPR until the arrival of St John WA.
Paramedics transported him to Royal Perth Hospital.
Mr Haime extended police thoughts to the man's family and loved ones, praising first responders for their rapid response before requesting patience while the investigation was still in its early stages.
A report will also be prepared for the coroner.

A 25-year-old man has died in another tragic car crash in WA. It happened on Coral Bay Rd near Minilya-Exmouth Rd in Lydon, about 160km east of the coastal tourist town of Coral Bay and 1100km north of Perth, on Sunday morning. A red Toyota Hilux and a white Volkswagen T-Cross collided about 9.30am. The 25-year-old male Hilux driver was rushed to Coral Bay Nursing Post with critical injuries but could not be saved. Man dies in police custody after being tasered
A man has died in hospital after he was tasered by an officer responding to reports he had entered a stranger's home and smashed windows. The incident is being treated as a death in custody, triggering an internal investigation, Western Australian Police say. Officers were called to the Perth suburb of Embleton about 12.30am on Friday amid reports the man was behaving erratically. "Police responded to reports the man had entered a house occupied by people not known to him and had smashed multiple windows at the property," Assistant Commissioner Martin Haime told reporters. Officers found the man in the home's backyard and attempted to negotiate with him, but he continued to behave aggressively, ignoring their orders. "A Taser was deployed by an officer during attempts to detain the man," Mr Haime said. Officers eventually restrained the man and he suffered a medical episode minutes later. It is understood the man was not conscious or breathing when paramedics arrived at the scene. Paramedics transported him to Royal Perth Hospital, where he later died. "Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones during this difficult time," Mr Haime said. "Due to the fact the man had been in police custody prior to his death, officers from the internal investigation unit will investigate his death as a death in police custody." Officers at the scene provided medical assistance to the man. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
