Inmate escapes from Stony Mountain Institution north of Winnipeg
Staff at the prison, about 10 kilometres north of Winnipeg, discovered on Monday that Jason David Vanwyck was gone. No information was provided by the CSC on when that realization was made.
The RCMP was immediately contacted and a warrant was issued for Vanwyck's arrest, according to a news release from the CSC on Monday.
Vanwyck is described as six feet tall and 241 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.
He is serving a sentence of just over two years for breaking and entering, theft, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or harm and mischief.
The CSC did not say when Vanwyck began his sentence.
Anyone with information on his location is urged to contact police.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Bar of Quebec (Barreau du Québec) said its disciplinary council has ordered the immediate provisional suspension of Rizzuto's right to practice law and the right to use the title reserved for members of the bar. 'Depending on the outcome of the criminal case, the Bar will provide updates on developments relating to his right to practice,' the statement reads. Records show that Rizzuto obtained his licence to practice law in Quebec in 1999. Following his arrest at his home in Laval, he remains in jail as the criminal proceedings continue. The raids in June resulted in the arrests of several people with alleged ties to the Italian Mafia, Hells Angels, and criminal street gangs who are accused of being involved in several murders in Montreal and around Quebec over a decade. Rizzuto survived an assassination attempt in 2023, when his Mercedes was shot at while he was driving on a Laval highway.

Vehicle flips onto its side in Kitchener crash
A vehicle was flipped onto its side following a collision on July 3, 2025. (Submitted: Emma Valencia) Multiple vehicles were involved in a Kitchener collision on Thursday. The Waterloo Regional Police Service were called to the intersection of Westmount Road East and Greenbrook Drive in Kitchener at 5 p.m. In an email at 6:13 p.m., police said there was no word of injuries or charges at the time. Three youths arrested after armed bank robbery in Durham
After an armed robbery at a bank in Durham, three youths have since been arrested in connection with the incident. Police arrested a 14-year-old male from Mississauga, 17-year-old male from Mississauga and a 17-year-old male from Brampton. A fourth suspect has been identified and is in police custody. The robbery occurred on June 10 at the Northern Credit Union, when four masked males entered the bank and stole an undisclosed amount of money. One suspect was observed holding a machete, while another held a handgun. Chief of Police Jeremy White said the event was terrifying for the town. 'Holding these individuals accountable despite their young age is an important part of helping our community feel safe again,' said White.
