More than 80 jobs axed as bus firm collapses amid Alexander Dennis uncertainty
Greenfold Systems, based in Dunfermline, built parts for buses, with the Falkirk-based Alexander Dennis being a 'major customer' for the firm.
But on Thursday, administrators were called in, with 81 of the 90 jobs at the company axed, with the remaining staff kept on temporarily.
Alexander Dennis announced last month the launch of a consultation, which could eventually see 400 jobs lost in the area if the company's operations were consolidated into a single site in Yorkshire.
The consultation has since been extended by two weeks and will close on August 15, with the company assuring MSPs the decision was not a 'done deal'.
But it has already had a knock-on impact on the supply chain with the collapse of Greenfold.
Callum Carmichael, a joint administrator for the firm and a partner at FRP Advisory, said: 'Greenfold Systems was a well-regarded business that had carved out a specialist role in the commercial vehicle supply chain.
'Unfortunately, the loss of a major customer contract had an immediate and severe impact on its financial position.
'Our priority now is to support the affected employees and to maximise returns for creditors.'
Scottish business minister Richard Lochhead said: 'I am very disappointed to learn that Greenfold Systems Ltd has entered into administration.
'This will clearly be a very difficult time for workforce and their families.
'The people affected by this announcement are our immediate priority and the Scottish Government will do everything in its power to help those affected through our initiative for responding to potential redundancy situations.
'We continue to explore all viable options to support Alexander Dennis Ltd, its workforce and the wider businesses and communities they support.
'We are doing this at pace and in close collaboration with the company, trade unions, Scottish Enterprise, Transport Scotland and the UK Government.'

Fashion chain Claire's shops around for buyer of UK arm
The budget jeweller and fashion accessories chain Claire's has hired advisers to find a buyer for its British operations as it explores options – including bankruptcy – for its US-based business. Sky News has learnt that Claire's, which trades from about 280 UK shops, is working with Interpath Advisory on a potential sale or restructuring. Sources said that prospective buyers of the business had been told that a sale of the British chain could lead to significant numbers of store closures. One retail industry boss speculated that as many as a third of the UK shops could be axed in a deal to salvage the rest of the chain, potentially putting hundreds of jobs at risk. Claire's has been a fixture in British shopping centres and on high streets for decades. Bloomberg News reported last week that Claire's Stores Inc, the US-based parent company, was considering filing for bankruptcy protection while it explores a sale of its operations in North America and Europe. Houlihan Lokey, the investment bank, is advising on the sale. The company, which is reported to trade from 2,000 stores globally, is owned by former creditors Elliott Management and Monarch Alternative Capital following a previous financial restructuring. Bankers speculated that prolific retail investors such as Modella Capital and Gordon Brothers might be among those interested in Claire's British business.

Pensioners in Scotland to receive between £101 and £305 heating bill help before winter
The Scottish Government has confirmed the amounts, eligibility and qualifying period for Pension Age Winter Heating Payments. Pension Credit – Could you or someone you know be eligible? The Scottish Government has confirmed details of this year's Pension Age Winter Heating Payments (PAWHP) which are due to start landing in bank accounts from November. The devolved benefit has now replaced Winter Fuel Payments for all pensioners with a Scottish postcode and follows similar eligibility rules to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). However, Scots pensioners will see a slight increase in the amounts issued by Social Security Scotland as they increased in April as part of the annual uprating exercise. The payments of £101.70, £203.40 and £305.10 will be made automatically to pensioners born before September 21, 1959 with an income at or below £35,000. Similar to the Winter Fuel Payment policy, pensioners in Scotland will also be able to opt out receiving the payment. More information on how to do this will be available by Autumn 2025. The newly updated guidance on gives an overview of the benefit, eligibility, qualifying criteria and the payment rates. How much money you will receive is based on: your age the age of anyone you live with who is also eligible for Pension Age Winter Heating Payment if you receive certain benefits from DWP as a joint award The guidance adds: 'Most eligible people will be paid automatically. These payments will be made from November 2025. 'If your taxable income is over £35,000, His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will take back your Pension Age Winter Heating Payment through the tax system.' Remember, if your income is above £35,000 you will be able to opt out. Scottish firm to use £3m grant to develop battery storage alternative
East Kilbride-based Innovatium will use the grant to accelerate work on its alternative to lithium-ion batteries for the storage of renewable energy. The PRISMA Advanced Liquid Air Energy Storage system has been designed to use off-peak electricity to cool and liquefy compressed air – and then convert that liquid energy back into compressed air to generate power when needed. The company says the system 'aims to resolve the intermittency and fluctuating supply issues seen in renewable energy generation' and hopes to create 30 jobs in Scotland over the next four years.
