PM has played pivotal role in facilitating Iran-Israel ceasefire: Naqvi
Soaking at a presser alongside clerics from multiple religious sects on security arrangements for Muharram, Naqvi remarked, 'Once again, the 'uniform' – our Armed Forces – stood firmly behind the diplomatic breakthrough between Iran and Israel.'
Highlighting the military's quiet yet crucial involvement, he said: 'While the prime minister's role was undeniably significant, let me be clear – there was a uniform standing behind him. I won't delve into further details, but the nation should take pride in this achievement.'
Turning to simmering tensions with India, Naqvi assured that Pakistan had not incurred any substantial damage during recent exchanges.
Recounting a particular incident, he revealed that India had launched approximately 11 missiles targeting a Pakistani military base – none of which struck their intended mark.
'At the time, around nine to 11 fighter jets were parked at that airbase,' he noted.
'But by divine grace, the missiles veered off course, leaving our assets untouched.'
Pakistan, he emphasised, refrained from retaliating against civilian targets, instead opting to strike what he described as India's largest oil depot.
'This is a testament to divine intervention,' he added. 'Our intent was never to harm civilians.'
Shifting focus to domestic affairs, Naqvi stressed that ensuring peace during the month of Muharram remained the government's foremost priority. He commended religious clerics for fostering inter-sect harmony and called on them to continue their efforts.
'We're deeply grateful for the religious scholars' presence and guidance. Just as the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee includes voices from all schools of thought, promoting unity during Muharram is equally vital. Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) is not the symbol of a single sect – he is a beacon for us all,' he added.
Echoing his sentiments, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry underlined the importance of solidarity in upholding law and order during the sacred month and countering extremist threats.
'Religious scholars across the nation have upheld their responsibilities admirably,' he said.
'Now more than ever, we must stand united – above hatred, sectarianism, and the divisive plots of our enemies. Our security forces are combating terrorism, but this fight must be collective,' he added.

However, Pakistan has witnessed a historic solar boom, while becoming the world's largest importer of solar panels in 2024. Ali Majid - LONGi Green Energy Technology Co Ltd General Manager Central Asia and Middle East and North Africa - said Pakistan's solarisation momentum faces challenges with the 10% tax on imported panels. Speaking to Business Recorder, he said he believes a long-term drive for clean energy, along with local initiatives to boost domestic solar manufacturing and optimize supply chains, can help mitigate cost impacts. LONGi said it is committed to working with stakeholders, offering efficient, cost-competitive products and solutions, to support Pakistan in sustaining its solar growth trajectory despite these short-term hurdles. Majid said for households and industries, the tax-driven price hike will add to energy cost burdens. But LONGi aims to ease the impact. According to Majid, 'We'll leverage our global scale, research and development (R&D) strength, and local presence to provide high-efficiency, reliable solar products at optimized costs.' 'By promoting distributed generation and energy-saving solutions, we help reduce long-term energy expenses, supporting both sectors to navigate inflationary pressures and still embrace solar benefits.' 'Solar continues to be the smarter long-term choice' Meanwhile Livoltek's Pakistan Director Sales, Max Ma, said the 10% tax will slightly scale up solar system costs, but grid electricity remains significantly more expensive and unreliable. He told Business Recorder that while some price-sensitive customers may hesitate initially, solar continues to be the smarter long-term choice—especially with net-metering and financing options. He said, 'At Livoltek, we're focused on easing this transition by offering high-efficiency inverters and energy storage solutions that maximize return on investment.' 'Our nationwide support network and after-sales service ensures customers feel confident in choosing solar. We believe the shift to clean energy will continue, and Livoltek remains committed to making it both accessible and sustainable for Pakistani households and businesses.' He added that this policy could be a stepping stone toward local manufacturing—if supported by government-backed incentives, infrastructure investment, and R&D facilitation. As a global clean energy brand with a growing footprint in Pakistan, Livoltek says it is already exploring localized assembly and partnerships to enhance supply chain resilience and cost efficiency. Max Ma said, 'We are prepared to play an active role in building a stronger local ecosystem. Encouraging domestic manufacturing can reduce import reliance, create jobs, and stabilize prices. But it requires a collaborative effort between the private sector and policymakers to turn this into a national success story.' 'Demand for solar remains resilient' Business Recorder also spoke to analyst Usman Suhail said the 10% levy on imported solar panels is likely to increase retail prices, creating immediate cost pressure on both residential and commercial buyers. This price hike may temporarily slow down new solar installations, especially in the lower-income and small business segments that were driving the recent boom. However, demand for solar remains resilient due to ongoing grid instability and rising electricity tariffs. 'Rather than a mass shift back to grid electricity, we may see a slowdown in new installations, not a reversal. On the upside, this move could incentivize serious investment in local solar panel manufacturing, which has long struggled to gain traction due to cheaper imports. But establishing competitive local supply will require policy support, quality assurance, and technology transfer,' he said. In the short term, price sensitivity could reduce sales volume, but the long-term market fundamentals still favor solar—if supported by consistent policy and incentives for local production.

Azma calls for strict enforcement of Muharram SOPs
LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has directed that strict compliance with the Punjab government's Muharram SOPs must be ensured. She emphasized that no changes should be made to traditional procession routes. Adequate lighting, water sprinkling, and CCTV coverage along the routes must be ensured without exception, she said. She urged scholars from all schools of thought to promote patience, tolerance, and interfaith harmony. She also warned of immediate and strict action against those spreading religious hatred on social media. On the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Information Minister visited Jhang to review the arrangements for the month of Muharram. During the visit, the minister chaired a high-level meeting with district administration, law enforcement agencies and members of the peace committee. Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhindar and DPO Captain Bilal Iftikhar Kayani (R) gave a detailed briefing on the security arrangements, procession routes and facilities during Muharram. The meeting was also attended by Commissioner Faisalabad Maryam Khan, RPO Zeeshan Asghar, MPA Colonel Ghazanfar Abbas Qureshi (R), former assembly members Muhammad Aslam Bharwana, Muhammad Yaqoob Sheikh, Faisal Hayat Jabboana, Khalid Ghani, Sahibzada Maulana Muhammad Asif Muawiya, Ameer Abbas Sial, along with district peace committee members and Majalis organizers. MPA Colonel Ghazanfar Abbas Qureshi (R) stated that all religious sects are united for peace and are working together to maintain harmony in the district. Later, the minister visited the Safe City Authority Control Room where she was briefed on the real-time CCTV monitoring of the 6th Muharram processions. The Deputy Commissioner informed her that all main procession routes are being continuously monitored through surveillance cameras. Azma Bokhari also inspected Sabeel points across Jhang city, reviewing cleanliness, water availability, and the performance of Food Authority teams. Unity government: Achakzai offers to hold talks with PM
ISLAMABAD: Mahmood Khan Achakzai, leader of the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) and chairman of Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), on Thursday offered to hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the formation of a 'unity government' amid what he described as a deepening political and constitutional crisis in the country. Speaking at a presser, Achakzai said that he was prepared to engage with the prime minister solely on the issue of forming a national unity government to steer the country out of the prevalent economic and political crisis. 'Talks with this government are not possible except on the issue of forming a national government. This is not the time to hurl insults at each other as we need unity right now,' he declared. His remarks come days after the Supreme Court, in a 7-5 majority ruling, accepted review petitions that stripped Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of its entitlement to seats reserved for women and minorities in both national and provincial assemblies. The decision led to the reallocation of nearly 80 seats to other parliamentary parties. Achakzai criticised the apex court's verdict, describing it as a sign of the broader erosion of democratic values in the country. 'Political parties have begged for seats instead of upholding democratic principles,' he lamented. He accused the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the judiciary of undermining the 2024 general elections, alleging these institutions manipulated the process to disadvantage PTI. Achakzai said the party's electoral symbol was unjustly revoked and condemned the treatment of its lawmakers and supporters. 'We may have differences with Imran Khan, but the treatment meted out to his party is unjust,' he said, adding that PTI lawmakers and their families were barred from visiting detained members outside Adiala Jail. Recalling the arrests of opposition lawmakers within the premises of parliament last year, Achakzai accused the National Assembly Speaker of bias, accusing him of remaining a silent spectator while such actions took place. He criticised the Speaker's assertion that spy agencies have the authority to tap anyone's calls, describing his silence on the issue as criminal negligence. He urged the Speaker to either fulfil his responsibilities as custodian of the House or consider stepping down. On foreign policy, he denounced Israeli actions in Gaza and called for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be declared a global terrorist for the killing of Palestinians.
