Lionesses hero Chloe Kelly slammed for 'cocky gesture' after beating Spain in Euro 2025 Final
England hero Chloe Kelly has been labelled "cocky" by the Spanish media as her celebrations are criticised. The Arsenal winger smashed home the winning penalty to deliver Euros success for the Lionesses.
It was the second time in succession they've claimed European glory but Kelly's antics have not gone down well with foreign media. They claim that her celebration in front of La Roja stopper Cata Coll was "unnecessary".
They say that Kelly, who scored the winner in England's 2022 Euros final win over Germany, diverted her path after scoring from 12 yards and made a gesture in front of the keeper, as is claimed by Spanish outlet Dario AS.
They wrote: "This is unnecessary, my friend: Kelly's cocky gesture to Cata Coll after scoring the decisive penalty. The England specialist changed her run during her penalty celebration to get past the goalkeeper she had just beaten." It comes after Kelly made a b-line for the England supporters in the corner, but that was described as "cocky" and uncalled-for.
Kelly came off the bench for the Euros final and produced some historic contributions. Before scoring her penalty she assisted Alessia Russo's 57th-minute equaliser that cancelled out Mariona Caldentey's opener for Spain.
Kelly had missed a penalty in the semi-final win over Italy, scoring the rebound, and was adamant history wouldn't repeat itself. She said: "I was adamant I wasn't missing two on the bounce. I was cool, I was composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. I don't miss penalties twice."
The 27-year-old feared her England hopes were disappearing as she struggled for form and minutes whilst at Manchester City. Kelly eventually signed for Arsenal on loan in January, and made her move permanent in July, which saw her get back to her best and land some career milestones.
"If that's a story to tell someone maybe experiencing something the same - tough times don't last," she said. "Just around the corner was a Champions League final, won that, and now a Euros final, won that."
Kelly hailed the influence of her manager, Sarina Wiegman, as she said: "She gave me hope when I probably didn't have any. She gave me an opportunity to represent my country again."
In a telling dig to those who doubted her the Arsenal star said on social media: "Thank you to everyone who wrote me off - I'm grateful."

Rangers' potential Champions League play-off opponents revealed
This is if they beat Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. Victory over the Czech side would place Rangers just one tie away from the league phase of the [[Champions League]]. However, a loss would see them drop into the Europa League group stage. The challenge ahead is acknowledged, with manager Russell Martin vowing a "right go" at the Champions League. He said: "We've got through a really difficult tie over two legs with a win and we've qualified for the Europa League. "And we can attack the Champions League now and have a right go. "I'm incredibly proud of them, the team, the staff, the fans were amazing, so it's a big night for us." Rangers will be unseeded if they triumph over Viktoria Plzen and will find themselves in the league path draw. This means they could come up against either the winners of the Benfica and Nice clash or the victors of the Red Bull Salzburg versus Club Brugge match. These games are scheduled for August 6 and August 12. The identity of their potential opponents will be confirmed alongside the outcome of the Rangers versus Viktoria Plzen tie. The draw on Monday will provide Rangers fans with a clearer picture of which tie to monitor, with the possibility of facing the winners if they too advance.

Unai Emery prepared to axe Ollie Watkins to secure Aston Villa reunion with Chelsea star
Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins' future is uncertain after being strongly linked with a move to Manchester United and his manager Unai Emery is willing to offload the player in order to land Nicolas Jackson Aston Villa boss Unai Emery wants to be reunited with Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson – and he's prepared to sell star man Ollie Watkins to do it. Emery helped nurture Jackson's career at Villarreal before he left for Villa – nine months before Chelsea came in with a successful £32 million bid. Now Emery is ready to test Chelsea's resolve over the Senegal international who is also on the wanted list of Manchester United and Newcastle. Chelsea have been holding out for an £80 million fee for the 24-year-old, who signed an eight year contract. That would mean Villa having to cash in on England striker Watkins who is already on the radar of Manchester United and Newcastle. Watkins, 29, is believed to want a fresh challenge and has been unsettled by the constant transfer talk throughout the summer. In addition to Jackson, Emery has been looking at other targets including RB Leipzig's Belgian striker Lois Openda who would come cheaper than the Chelsea star, the German club wanting around £40 million. But Jackson is Emery's first choice and is hoping they reduce the asking price with Chelsea having brought in Liam Delap and Joao Pedro and about to snap up RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons. Jackson has received criticism over his goalscoring return since joining Chelsea in 2023, despite scoring 17 times in his first season and 13 in the last campaign. He recently spoke out about his future after a reporter suggested he faced "competition" from Delap and Pedro. "Competition? I have no competition," he told DSports TV. "We're all here to help the club. Everyone has their role to play. I'm on a mission. It's up to the coach to make his choices. I focus solely on my work.' "I'm a Chelsea player. The future belongs to God. If there are any changes, you'll know. For now, I'm focused on my preparation.' "It's football, there are ups and downs. Last season we won two trophies. There were difficult moments, moments of glory. Every season is like that. But the most important thing is to stay focused, to learn, and to grow in the face of adversity."
