Ademola Lookman requests transfer from Atalanta citing broken promises and poor treatment - Africa

Al-Ahram Weekly2 days ago
Lookman made the announcement with a statement posted on Instagram.
The 27-year-old said the request was made 'after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer.
'Sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and I feel that enough is enough,' he said.
He said in the statement that it had already been decided that it was the 'right time" for him "to move on and experience a new adventure.' He said he and the club ownership had been 'in agreement' that now was the right time for a transfer, and that the club agreed to let him leave if a fair offer was made.
He said an offer did arrive but now the club was not sticking to its end of the agreement.
'Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed, sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,' he said.
Lookman did not give other details about the offer.

Brazil's Paixao promises 'big things' at Marseille unveiling - World

Brazil striker Igor Paixao was unveiled at Marseille on Monday as he vowed to deliver in Ligue 1 the form and ambition he showed at Feyenoord. The 25-year-old scored 18 goals and provided 19 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions last season, before his 35 million euros ($40 million) switch to Marseille on a five-year deal. After finishing runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain last year, Marseille will play in the Champions League in the upcoming campaign where Paixao can link up with former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood. Paixao said he owed it to Marseille to give everything, and that this matched his ambition to make the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup. "Marseille is a club with values. That's very important for me, for everyone. I want to give my all... It's a major responsibility and I think we're going to do big things," he said. Paixao added he was inspired by former Marseille player Franck Ribery. "With his dribbling, his goals, Ribery was an exceptional player, I will try to be like him, to be able to make history with this club," he said. Paixao earned one Brazil under-23 cap in 2023. Bayer Leverkusen extends Patrik Schick's contract until 2030 - World

Bayer Leverkusen has extended a contract for Czech Republic striker Patrik Schick until 2030, the German Bundesliga club said on Monday. Schick's original deal was to expire in 2027. The announcement came after a string of key players left the club this off-season. They include midfielder Granit Xhaka, attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, right back Jeremie Frimpong and defender Jonathan Tah — all crucial to Leverkusen's league and cup double in 2024. Also, coach Xabi Alonso departed for Real Madrid. Schick was Leverkusen's top scorer last season with 27 goals in 45 games and scored a total of 64 goals in the Bundesliga for the club since his arrival in 2020. Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who was appointed in May to replace Alonso, is faced with a big rebuild due to the departures. Leverkusen's off-season spending so far has gone on American attacking midfielder Malik Tillman from PSV Eindhoven and former Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah, while the club's also signed Brentford's highly-rated goalkeeper Mark Flekken. 'Bayer 04 is working hard to assemble a top team for the future,' Schick said. 'I firmly believe that we will continue to play a significant role in the Bundesliga and in Europe.' Atalanta Rejects Ademola Lookman's Statement

Rana Atef Serie A side Atalanta rejected their Nigerian star Ademola Lookman's statements, in which the player accused the club of "not honoring promises" about his transfer. Lookman claimed that the club had pledged to sell him abroad this summer; however, they blocked his move to Inter Milan. The situation escalated as Lookman submitted an official transfer request, which he confirmed in a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram account. In the statement, he said the club had promised to allow his departure this summer if a suitable offer arrived, but is now obstructing his move to Inter Milan 'for reasons I do not understand.' According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atalanta saw the matter differently. The club claimed the promise dates back to last summer, when Lookman asked to be left out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup match against Real Madrid due to interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The club clarified, according to the report, that the agreement was to allow the player to leave for a non-Italian club if an ambitious and lucrative offer came in. In the same context, Atalanta CEO Percassi said, 'The pact with Lookman was made one year ago when we rejected €20m from PSG'. 'We told him: we'll let you leave in 2025 for a super top club and not in Italy. Now, the situation [with Inter] is different... and as always, it's us deciding' Atalanta stated they would have been more flexible had Lookman attempted to join Arsenal, Chelsea, or PSG, rather than a direct Serie A competitor like Inter. Atalanta insisted that if Lookman is to move to Inter, it must be for the right price—specifically €50 million, instead of the current offer of €42 million plus €3 million in bonuses. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
