PUTRAJAYA: The integrated digital analytics platform, MyLabourHub, launched today by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), will strengthen Malaysia's position as a global leader in the world's Open Data Inventory (ODIN) assessment.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said that MyLabourHub integrates institutions, data and technology to provide the latest labour market information to improve the country's score in the upcoming official Open Data Warehouse (ODW) report.
He added that the portal, fully developed by DOSM, will benefit various stakeholders, including policymakers, industry players, training institutions and the public.
'In line with the aspiration to move towards a resilient statistical system in the era of digital innovation, this portal provides relevant, accurate and easily accessible information, thus enhancing the empowerment of citizen-centric statistical service delivery that is inclusive, integrated, transparent and secure,' Uzir said in his speech at the launch of MyLabourHub today.
Additionally, MyLabourHub enables in-depth research for evidence-based policymaking by helping stakeholders understand labour market dynamics while strengthening action plans, impactful interventions and responses to economic changes.
The official ODW report, released on April 29, marked a historic achievement for Malaysia, ranking first in the ODIN 2024/25 assessment, surpassing 198 other countries with an overall score of 90 and an outstanding data openness score of 99. This represents a significant leap from its 67th position in the 2022/23 assessment.
Uzir also said that MyLabourHub offers key functionalities, including a labour market analytics platform that provides insights into employment trends, salary rates and skill requirements aligned with contemporary job markets.
He highlighted that data updates within the platform occur in three categories: monthly, quarterly and annually, with all data sourced from relevant agencies, including the Department of Labour.
Meanwhile, DOSM said in a statement today that MyLabourHub gathers more than 101 key indicators and 128 supporting indicators.
'It is structured under eight main themes, including labour supply and demand, labour productivity, graduates, the informal sector, labour costs, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),' it said.
It added that the portal launch is a strategic initiative under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), aiming to realign the national labour market towards inclusive, sustainable and competitive economic growth.

Clear And Consistent Policies Key To Attracting Foreign Investments

From Mohd Khairi Idham Amran GENEVA, July 7 (Bernama) -- Clear and consistent government policies, backed by political stability, are among the key factors drawing foreign investors to Malaysia, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Speaking at a gathering with the Malaysian diaspora on Sunday, Fahmi cited the MADANI Economy framework, the 12th Malaysia Plan, the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) as examples of coherent policies that inspire investor confidence. 'These policies provide clarity and assurance to investors. They trust that such policies won't be changed arbitrarily,' he said. He pointed to recent data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) as proof that Malaysia continues to be a preferred destination for foreign direct investment. In fact, according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), approved investments for the first quarter of 2025 totalled RM89.8 billion, a 3.7 per cent year-on-year increase, despite global economic headwinds. The gathering, held at Rumah Malaysia here, was attended by around 50 Malaysians, including students, professionals, and staff from the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations. Also present was Malaysia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Datuk Nadzirah Osman. During the event, Fahmi also highlighted Malaysia's progress in the communications sector. 'Malaysia is among the top 10 countries in the world with the cheapest internet, and we have the second fastest internet speed in the Asia-Pacific region after South Korea,' he noted.

Meanwhile, Nadzirah welcomed the gathering, saying it gave Malaysians in Geneva a chance to engage directly with the minister and hear updates from home. "This programme allows the Malaysians in Geneva to share views with the minister and receive first-hand updates on current developments back home," she said. Syakira Ramli, President of the Malaysian Association of Geneva, said various topics were discussed during the gathering, including areas where Malaysia could improve by learning from Switzerland's strengths. "Switzerland is very strong and keen on administration and keeping track of advancement as well as making progress, as a society, and moving forward in the financial, education or even infrastructure," she said. For Malvyn Tan, Head of Commercial Fuel at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the gathering provided an opportunity for the Malaysian diaspora to share feedback and express their views. "I think Fahmi is very open and receptive, and this made us very comfortable to share our experiences while he shares the development in Malaysia," he said. Fahmi is currently leading the Malaysian delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society+20 High-Level Event (WSIS+20), which will be held here from July 7 to 11, as part of the Madani Government's ongoing efforts to strengthen an inclusive national communications technology ecosystem aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). - Bernama

Sabah's economy now at its best: Total trade value exceeds RM100 billion for third consecutive year

Published on: Saturday, July 05, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jul 05, 2025 Text Size: Dr Mohd Uzir said the three main commodities contributing to Sabah's exports in 2024 were crude petroleum valued at RM21.3 billion, followed by palm oil (RM17.3 billion) and Liquefied Natural Gas (RM4.6 billion). PUTRAJAYA: First it was confirmation by the Sabah Audit Department that Sabah recorded one of the highest state revenues in Malaysia with RM7.6 billion recorded in 2023. Now the Statistics Department's (DOSM) said Sabah's external trade registered a total value of RM107.8 billion in 2024 – surpassing the RM100 billion mark for the third consecutive year since 2022. Advertisement Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said Sabah's total trade registered a growth of 2.7 per cent, in terms of year-on-year basis. 'Exports amounted to RM61.3 billion in 2024, a decline of 2.3 per cent as compared to the previous year. Imports increased by 10.2 per cent, from RM42.2 billion to RM46.4 billion. 'The higher growth in imports resulted in a 27.9 per cent decline in the trade balance, with a lower trade surplus of RM14.9 billion in 2024,' he said in a statement Friday. Dr Mohd Uzir said the three main commodities contributing to Sabah's exports in 2024 were crude petroleum valued at RM21.3 billion, followed by palm oil (RM17.3 billion) and Liquefied Natural Gas (RM4.6 billion). 'Overall, the exports of these main commodities amounted to RM43.2 billion or 70.4 per cent of Sabah's total exports. 'As for imports, the main contributors were refined petroleum products at RM5.2 billion, manufactured fertilisers (RM1 billion) and palm-based oleochemicals (RM266 million),' he said. The publication presents statistics on the volume and value of Sabah's external trade with trading partners, along with detailed breakdowns by commodity classification. On Thursday, Sabah Audit Department Deputy Director Khairul Anuar Amat Johari said notwithstanding the RM2.9b public debt, Sabah's assets were valued at RM9.1b, while claimable loans were at RM1.26 billion and investments at RM7.9b. He said Sabah also did not face any shortage of funds to manage development projects. State Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said confirmation of a 2.7 per cent increase for 2024 reflects continued stability and growth in the state's economy, contrary to opposition claims. 'This shows a healthy performance and clearly disproves claims of a sharp decline in Sabah's trade,' he said. Phoong said he had written to DOSM to seek clarification on the matter, following some confusion earlier. According to DOSM's latest explanation, Sabah's total trade for 2024, including transactions with Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, was RM107.78 billion, compared to RM105 billion in 2023. International trade, based on country of origin and destination, reached RM43 billion in 2024. This is higher than the revised figure of RM41.4 billion for 2023, which included RM31 billion in exports. Phoong said the previously announced figure of RM158 billion was inaccurate and that DOSM's clarification helped restore public confidence in Sabah's trade data. 'This confirms that there was no drastic drop in 2024. On the contrary, both overall and international trade values recorded growth,' he said. He also noted that exports of manufactured goods rose by 9.3 per cent to RM12 billion in 2024, calling it a promising sign for the state's industrial sector. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
