Liverpool players report for pre-season training following funeral of Diogo Jota

Leader Live2 days ago
Jota was killed in a car crash in Spain last Thursday alongside his brother Andre Silva and their funeral in their home town of Gondomar, near Porto, was attended by many of the Portugal forward's Liverpool team-mates and staff.
Some of Arne Slot's squad had been scheduled to return for pre-season training on Friday, but the club delayed their return following the accident.
Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley and Wataru Endo were among the players pictured arriving at the training ground.
Liverpool's first pre-season friendly is scheduled for Sunday against Preston at Deepdale, but the Premier League champions have yet to announce whether the game will go ahead.
The Reds, who will play FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on August 10, are also scheduled to face AC Milan in Hong Kong and J1 League side Yokohama in Japan at the end of this month.
Liverpool Women players Gemma Bonner and Grace Fisk paid their respects to Jota and his brother at Anfield on Tuesday.
The pair signed the book of condolence and laid a wreath outside the stadium on behalf of the women's team.

'A great signing who will suit this squad' or 'all show and no go'?

We asked for your views on the news Spurs have agreed a £55m fee to sign West Ham's Mohammed are some of your comments:Peter: Kudus is a good signing but not a world-class one. He is either a massive part of West Ham's attacking output or an inconsistent player who has quality but can't always reach it. £55m is a bit too much for me and I also think that Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert and Son Heung-min (if he stays) is a lot of competition so Thomas Frank will need to get the best out of him and others. Big price tag. Big player. I'm excited for what is Totally underwhelmed by Kudus. 55p is too much, let alone £55m. Reminds me of Erik Lamela - all show and no Kudus represents a great signing whose playing style will suit this squad. If he can find his feet at Spurs he would be part of a dynamic attack that would grace any Premier League club. With Dominic Solanke, Son, Johnson, Kulusevski, Odobert and Mikey Moore, the options are looking good! Too much to add Eberechi Eze instead of Richarlison? Not a Spurs fan? Find and follow your club herePaul: Not sure about this one as Kudus didn't play much for West Ham and £55m is a bit too much to pay for a Hammers reserve. Would have preferred us to pay the money required for Eze and even Marcus Rashford but you never know how things will turn out as there is still a while to go before the transfer window We've needed a player of Kudus' calibre and quality for so long now. Feels like a Spurs player and I think it's a good Kudus had just three good games last year. Dispossessed too often and inaccurate passing blighted the Hammers. Frank must instil discipline in him. But where's our goal poacher?Josh: Not too sure on this one to be honest. But, always happy to be proven wrong. If he can reignite his form from his first season in the Premier League, then he could be a difference If Frank wants him and can improve him, then it makes sense. Also, this is an experienced PL player, which is important for us.

Arsenal 'worried' over Gyokeres transfer and Liverpool's Wirtz deal shows why

While Arsenal are frontrunners to sign Viktor Gyokeres, the Gunners have yet to agree a fee for the striker with Sporting CP, with Troy Deeney claiming the club are not convinced of the Swede's value Arsenal are said to be "worried" over whether Viktor Gyokeres is the answer to their solution, as Troy Deeney questioned why the transfer for the striker continues to drag on. The Premier League side have long been linked with the signing the Sporting CP star, with interest in the Swede spanning back to last summer. While Mikel Arteta 's side are favourites to land the 27-year-old, the two parties are failing to come to an agreement on the fee. The Portuguese champions are said to be requesting £60.3million (€70m) and £8m (€10m) in add-ons for their talisman. ‌ Despite a lack of agreement on the transfer fee, Arsenal and Gyokeres are said to have already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract that'll see the striker return to England for the first time since leaving Coventry City in 2023. ‌ The long-running saga for Gyokeres' signature has left Deeney convinced that the north London side are not convinced of the Swede's value. Speaking on talkSPORT's Kick Off show, the ex- Watford captain said: "I don't think they're sold on Gyokeres. I really don't." He compared Arsenal's slow and steady approach of Gyokeres to Liverpool's relatively speedy signing of Florian Wirtz in a potential British record £116m deal. Deeney claimed a deal would already be done for the striker if Arteta was sold on the idea that the Swede was the answer to his attacking problems. "Because you'd just go and get him, you get it done [if Arsenal were really keen]," he explained. ‌ "The same way that Liverpool did with Wirtz, [they] just went: 'Bang, go and get him, get it finished.' I think they're worried that he's not, not only the short-term answer, but not the long-term answer." Buying a striker has long been on the wishlist for Arsenal fans, who've seen the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz tried and tested up front but to no avail. Benjamin Sesko was very much being considered, but again a fee could not be agreed with RB Leipzig. ‌ Deeney admitted he believes Arteta's stubbornness could be the thorn holding up a deal for Gyokeres. The 37-year-old said: "This is my opinion – I think Arteta is a little bit stubborn at this moment in time because everyone's been calling for it [to sign a striker]. If he does that and then wins it [the Premier League], it's going to be like: 'Oh, we told you that.' ‌ "It's not going to be his thing. There's a little element of stubbornness and [a feeling of]: 'We could do it our way'. I find it interesting that we're seeing more talk with Madueke – that looks like it's closer to being done than the strikers." With talks at a standstill between Arsenal and Sporting, Record claim that Gyokeres could look to secure a loan move late in the transfer window should a move to the Premier League side fail to come to fruition. The striker remains adamant that he will not represent Sporting again, and if a deal with Arsenal does not materialise, Gyokeres could well look to temporarily join a fellow European club this summer.
