Last-minute booking surge and price-drop tool at Fora

The 2025 trend of close-in bookings has continued into the summer.
For the past few weeks at Fora Travel in New York, 45% of bookings have been for travel taking place within the month following the booking.
"Summer is so last minute," said Fora co-founder Henley Vazquez said. "We had a record month in June. The bookings last week alone, we have millions of dollars booked last week for travel this week. We're just seeing this huge surge of interest in traveling."
Domestic travel is growing faster than international travel, she said, but noted that Fora clients are headed "everywhere, and everywhere last minute."
Vazquez largely attributed that last-minute trend to the uncertainty in the world, both economically and politically.
New price-drop feature at Fora
Amid all the last-minute bookings, Fora has introduced a new feature for advisors: a price-drop alert on refundable hotel bookings.
Right now, the feature is applicable only to hotel bookings made via GDS, Vazquez said, which make up most of Fora's hotel bookings. Bookings are automatically monitored, and if the price a client is paying changes by more than 5% or $50, the advisor will get an email alerting them to the change.
At that point, the advisor can alert their client, Vazquez said. While they could offer to rebook them at the lower rate, she said they could also encourage them to book a better room category with the money saved.
So far, the feature has saved Fora clients "hundreds of thousands of dollars," she said.
"It's certainly, as a travel advisor, something I would have dreamed of for years to not have a client go out and go, 'Hey, I found this better price now on this room that you booked for me,' which totally erodes trust," Vazquez said.
Fora built its price-monitoring technology internally.
Vazquez said it offers the host a differentiator from competitors in the leisure travel space.
Additionally, she hopes it gives advisors an inroad to close sales faster than otherwise.
"It also gives you the ability as an advisor, which is another big bonus, to say to a client -- as I did recently -- 'Yeah, let's go ahead and book this, because if the price changes, it's refundable,'" she said.
Given the feature's popularity among Fora advisors, Vazques said price-drop monitoring will likely be built into other systems for other products outside hotels in the future.

NEW YORK (AP) — A rare trial against Elon Musk's car company began Monday in Miami where a jury will decide if it is partly to blame for the death of a stargazing university student after a runaway Tesla sent her flying 75 feet through the air and severely injured her boyfriend. Lawyers for the plaintiff argue that Tesla's driver-assistance feature called Autopilot should have warned the driver and braked when his Model S sedan blew through flashing red lights, a stop sign and a T-intersection at nearly 70 miles an hour in the April 2019 crash. Tesla lays the blame solely on the driver, who was reaching for a dropped cell phone. 'The evidence clearly shows that this crash had nothing to do with Tesla's Autopilot technology,' Tesla said in a statement. 'Instead, like so many unfortunate accidents since cellphones were invented, this was caused by a distracted driver.' The driver, George McGee, was sued separately by the plaintiffs. That case was settled. A judgement against Tesla could be especially damaging as the company works to convince the public its self-driving technology is safe during a planned rollout of hundreds of thousands of Tesla robotaxis on U.S. roads by the end of next year. A jury trial is rare for the company, which often settles lawsuits, and this one is rarer yet because a judge recently ruled that the family of the stricken Naibel Benavides Leon can argue for punitive damages. The judge, Beth Bloom of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, issued a partial summary judgement last month, throwing out charges of defective manufacturing and negligent misrepresentation against Tesla. But she also ruled plaintiffs could argue other claims that would make the company liable and ask for punitive damages, which could prove costly. 'A reasonable jury could find that Tesla acted in reckless disregard of human life for the sake of developing their product and maximizing profit,' Bloom said in a filing. The 2021 lawsuit alleges the driver relied on Autopilot to reduce speed or come to a stop when it detected objects in its way, including a parked Chevrolet Tahoe that Benavides and her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo, had gotten out of near Key West, Florida, to look up at the sky. The Tesla rammed the Tahoe at highway speeds, causing it to rotate and slam into Benavides, tossing her into a wooded area and killing her. In legal documents, Tesla denied nearly all of the lawsuit's allegations and said it expects that consumers will follow warnings in the vehicle and instructions in the owners' manual, as well as comply with driving laws. Two parents from Sherman Oaks, California, moved their 24-year-old daughter back into the family home in early 2024. In their mid-60s, the parents, who asked to remain anonymous when speaking to CNBC, expected that they'd be closing in on retirement at this point in their lives. Instead, they're canceling vacations and delaying retirement in order to accommodate their daughter's $5,000 a month living expenses. "We were not planning on this kind of expenditure at this point of our lives," the mother told CNBC. "The reason we do it is because we don't want to see her on the street." The family isn't alone in having their plans upended by the unexpected return of an adult child. The phenomenon, which experts have termed "boomerang kids," has been steadily growing over the last few years. Don't Miss: In terms of getting money back, . A Thrivent study on boomerang kids released in 2025 found that 46% of parents report that their adult children, ages 18-35, have moved back home at some point. The reasons for these moves vary from economic factors like debt, stagnant wages, and rising housing costs to personal factors like divorce or illness. While many parents say they are happy to provide a safety net for their children, there's also recognition that it often has a significant and negative impact on their own finances. According to the survey, 38% of boomerang parents say that having their children move back in has impacted their ability to save for long-term goals like retirement. The Sherman Oaks parents say they are feeling that pinch, to the point that it has caused tension in their relationship with their daughter. So they've turned to parenting coach Kim Muench for help navigating their new situation. "Parents sometimes hesitate to get help for themselves and invest in their health ... because they're already spending more than they would like to support their adult or emerging adult children," she says. Ultimately, though, Muench says open and honest conversations about money and timelines are the only way to ensure the familial bonds won't be permanently affected by a return home. She suggests starting with small financial boundaries, like asking your child to contribute towards a bill or put a set amount of money away in a savings account to mimic paying rent. "When their son or daughter is not taking [financial responsibility] on incrementally, [parents] actually get very worried that they will be financially providing for the rest of their lives," Muench told CNBC. "It takes consistent conversations, because it's probably not going to happen in the first conversation," she continued. "And it takes an emotional maturity level on both the parents and the emerging adult side to figure out how they can work together." Why I'm Obsessed With This AI Stock Trading at Fire Sale Prices

(TSX:BB) has been a part of this change for many years, having developed its embedded machine-to-machine connected technology to become an invaluable player in the field. Today, this AI stock is finally gearing up for sustained revenue and earnings growth. Let's take a look. In its most recent transformation, Blackberry has taken steps to improve its balance sheet, cash flows, and cost structure. These steps included splitting the company up into three divisions – QNX, secure communications, and licensing — and selling its Cylance cybersecurity business. The restructuring also included taking more than $150 million out of its cost structure and initiating a share buyback program. Blackberry's business is made up of three main segments, QNX, secure communications, and licensing. The QNX segment is the one that we hear most about and is the primary focus. Blackberry's QNX provides critical software for embedded, machine-to-machine connected systems. It's used in automotive applications, as well as medical devices, industrial controls, and robotics. The secure communications segment specializes in secure communications software for enterprises. Some of Blackberry's secure communications clients include government agencies, financial institutions, and essential service providers. It's true that many investors have grown skeptical with regard to Blackberry. But the list of reasons to like this AI stock is growing. For example, the QNX segment has grown its revenues from $178 million in 2022 to $236 million in 2025 – that's a 33% increase over this time period. And its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margin stands at a healthy 25%. Also, Blackberry's QNX is in more than 250 million vehicles worldwide and it's in strong demand. In fact, QNX has more than $865 million in backlog, which will make its way to the income statement over the next few years. Backlog was $460 million in 2022. In the secure communications segment, revenue is stable, with a 19% EBITDA margin and solid cash flows. Along with revenue improvements, Blackberry is also seeing improvements to its balance sheet and cash flows. And this is what takes Blackberry stock to a new level, both in terms of returns and risk. As we can see from the company's latest quarter, Blackberry's cash flows and balance sheet have strengthened considerably. In the most recent quarter, the company's operating cash usage came in at $18 million, which is a low point. Looking to the full year, Blackberry expects operating cash flow of a positive $35 million. This compares to prior years of negative operating cash flow. As for its balance sheet, Blackberry has $410 million in cash, with no debt maturities until 2029. This has given the company flexibility to invest in organic and inorganic growth, and to buy back shares if they present a good opportunity. All of this will drive shareholder value in the short and long term. Two things will likely happen as a result of this. Firstly, Blackberry's stock will trade higher because of the earnings and cash flow lift. Secondly, the stock will likely get re-rated and investors will assign it a higher multiple.
