Rampant England and France reach Women's Euro 2025 quarter-finals
England will face Sweden in Zurich on Thursday, a repeat of the semi-final at the last Euros three years ago which the Lionesses won 4-0.
But the Swedes look a tough proposition after topping Group C with a perfect nine points and swatting aside Germany on Saturday.
France meanwhile will take on Germany in Basel in the last quarter-final on Saturday, and are on the same side of the knockout draw as world champions Spain who face hosts Switzerland on Friday.
The French finished the group stage three points ahead of England after making it three wins from three in the group thanks to Delphine Cascarino's decisive double.
San Diego Wave forward Cascarino has been excellent in Switzerland, and she made sure that France would top the group with the key goals in a superb comeback from a goal down.
France, who opened the scoring through Sandie Toletti in the 22nd minute, trailed at the break to a Victoria Pelova strike and Selma Bacha's clumsy own goal.
But Marie-Antoinette Katoto levelled for France just after the hour and the match was done six minutes later thanks to Cascarino's fine finishes.
First Cascarino lashed France back ahead with a sumptuous, dipping long-range strike, before rolling in the fourth after Sandy Baltimore watched her shot ricochet off both posts.
Sakina Karchaoui completed the scoring from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
In St Gallen, England knew a win would be enough to seal a spot in the next round regardless of what happened in Basel, and once Stanway slotted home her penalty after being brought down by Carrie Jones there was no way back for Wales.
Eight minutes later Toone doubled England's lead after Wales failed to clear and the Manchester United forward tapped home after her initial effort was blocked on the line by Lily Woodham.
Toone then turned provider on the half-hour with a perfect searching cross for Hemp, before Russo rolled home from close range just before half-time to get off the mark for the tournament.
Mead drilled home England's fifth in the 72nd minute, but Hannah Cain gave Wales fans something to cheer about by lashing a fine consolation goal past Hannah Hampton.

England call up Dawson to replace injured Bashir ahead of fourth Test
Dawson made the last of his three Test appearances eight years ago, but the 35-year-old is in line for an unexpected return to the international stage at Old Trafford. Despite having already broken the little finger on his left hand, Bashir took the winning wicket in a dramatic finish to England's 22-run victory over India in the third Test at Lord's on Monday. Bashir is set for surgery in the coming days and will miss the remainder of the five-match series, with England holding a 2-1 lead before the next Test in Manchester. Dawson's recall comes after his outstanding form in county cricket for Hampshire. The left-armer has been named the Professional Cricketers' Association Player of the Year in the past two seasons. Dawson was part of the England squad that won the 50-over World Cup in 2019. After three years out of the England setup, he made his international return in the T20 series against West Indies earlier this summer. England midfielder Henderson joins Brentford
Henderson agreed a two-year contract with the Bees as he returned to the Premier League after leaving Liverpool in 2023. Brentford's new manager Keith Andrews moved for the 35-year-old after losing Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal. "When we became aware of Jordan's availability, it was a pretty simple decision," Andrews said. "We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is. He's still phenomenally fit and he's still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot. "What Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years. He's been at the forefront of driving for titles and Champions Leagues at a fantastic football club. "He also has experience at international level with England and, with that, comes a level of experience, professionalism and dedication to his profession - that's the exact way we want to be as a football club." Henderson has 84 England caps and was recently recalled by Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel. He spent 12 years with Liverpool, winning the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020 among numerous other trophies, before a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq two years ago. Henderson was accused of putting money above principles, having previously spoken out in support of the LGBTQ community. His contract with Al-Ettifaq was cancelled just six months later. Henderson subsequently joined Ajax, earning the captaincy and making 57 appearances for the Dutch club.
