
Al Shaqab Showjumping League Round Two: Haidan tops champions' 130cm class; Faraa takes team title

Hussain Saeed Haidan clinched the Al Shaqab Champions (130cm) CSI1* class while Faraa Team stood out as best in the second round of the Al Shaqab National Showjumping League which concluded at the Longines Indoor Arena of Al Shaqab on Saturday.
Haidan, riding D Saucedo, topped the One round against the clock event returning the best flawless routine in 65.44secs. Saad Ahmed Al Saad on Fashion des Douits was second (66.58secs) while Thorsten Wittenberg on Casallino 12 finished third (69.85secs).
Mohammad Jaber Al Khayarin, Manager of the Equine Education Department at Al Shaqab, awarded the podium winners.
In the team competition, Faraa team comprising Khaled Al Hadi, Tamim bin Joaan HK Al Thani, Hayfa Hamad Al Thani, Suhaim Hamad Al Yafei and Mohammed Saeed Al Muhannadi claimed the top podium place followed by the Harity and Afreen Team. Hamza Al Kuwari, Corporate Services Director at Al Shaqab honoured the riders with their prizes.
The Junior Champions - Special Two Phases (115cm) class title was bagged by Amer Hamad Al Mansoori, who astride Honolulu Brl clocked clear 27.70 and 34.59secs. Mohammed Faisal Al Marri on Haines was second (29.71 & 38.74secs), and Ahmad Jassim Al Suwaidi, riding Mona Lansia M, third (30.1 & 44.42secs). Hamza Al Kuwari, Corporate Services Director at Al Shaqab awarded the riders of the Junior Champions Class.
Mohammed Faisal Al Marri continued to excel in the Amateur - Special Two Phases (90cm) class taking the top spot. Abdulla Saleh Al Obaidly was second and Alia Raed Alfaddah was third. Mohammed Saeed Al Muhannadi, Abdulaziz Hamad Al Kaabi and Al Qaqaa bin Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani completed the top six podium places. Khalid Al Jehani, Breeding and Show Manager at Al Shaqab, honoured the winners with their prizes.
The Introductory Class - Optimum Time (60cm) saw Abdulaziz Nayef Al Hajri, Tamim Fahad Al Marri, Ibrahim Ahmad Al Hammadi, Saoud Abdulla Al Muhannadi, Alya Ahmad Al Khater and Abdulaziz Ahmad Al Jehani take the top six spots. Lahdan Al Boainain, Equestrian Institute Specialist at Al Shaqab awarded the riders.
The next two Al Shaqab League rounds are scheduled for May 23–24, and May 30–31.

Qatar national basketball team roster for FIBA Asia Cup 2025 announced
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has unveiled the official roster for the Qatar National Basketball Team, set to compete in the 31st edition of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17, 2025. The tournament will feature 16 top Asian national teams. The final 12-player roster includes: Brandon Goodwin, Alen Hadzibegovic, Seydou Ndiaye, Zain Eddin Badri, Tyler Harris, Adji Magassa, Omar Saad, Mustafa Ndaw, Mohamed Bashir, Babacar Dieng, Abdulrahman Saad, and Mahmoud Darwish. The medical team comprises Dr. Adel Salem, Dr. Adel Hormia, and physiotherapist Nikasio Sagayno. Following the tournament draw, Qatar has been placed in the highly competitive Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. Qatar team will open their campaign against South Korea on August 6, followed by matches against Lebanon on August 8 and Australia on August 10. Other groups in the tournament are as follows: Group B includes Japan, Iran, Syria, and Guam; Group C comprises China, Jordan, India, and Saudi Arabia; and Group D features the Philippines, New Zealand, Iraq, and Chinese Taipei. The tournament follows a group-stage format, with the top team from each group advancing directly to the quarterfinals. Teams finishing second and third in their groups will compete in crossover knockout matches to determine the remaining quarter-finalists.

In a post on its official X account, the Ministry stated: 'We take pride in the achievement of Sheikha Asma Al Thani and her raising of the nation's flag on the summit of Gasherbrum I. What she has accomplished embodies the spirit of determination and perseverance, serving as an inspiration for Qatari youth to strive toward achieving their goals and overcoming challenges.' Sheikha Asma announced her successful ascent on Instagram last Monday, marking another milestone in her mountaineering journey. 'Gasherbrum I, my 10th 8000er. Another summit, another moment I'll never forget,' she wrote. She continued in the post: 'Standing here with the Qatar flag in my hand, I'm reminded why I started this journey. To test my limits. To represent something bigger than myself. And to show that dreams can take us far, if we're willing to go beyond boundaries.' Gasherbrum I, standing at 8,080 metres (26,510 feet) above sea level, is located in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas, straddling the border between Pakistan's Gilgit–Baltistan region and China's Xinjiang province. The mountain is part of the Gasherbrum Massif, a notoriously challenging area for climbers due to its extreme altitude and rugged conditions.

Sports for All Summer Under-18 Chess sees wide participation
Tribune News Network Doha The Sports for All Summer Under-18 Chess Championship, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation in cooperation with Qatar Chess Association, concluded with the participation of 66 players of various nationalities. The tournament, held at the Qatar Chess Training Center, is part of the Sports for All Summer 2025 program, which continues until August 7. The final results of the tournament saw India's Sajan Abil winning the first place with 8.5 points, followed by his compatriot Josi Yohan in second place with 8 points, and Turkish player Calvillo Kerim in third place with 7 points. Among Qatari players, Khaled Al Jumaat, a player of the Qatari national team, finished ninth with six points, followed by Ibrahim Al Janahi in tenth place with the same score, tied with Hamad Al Kuwari, who finished eleventh. Layan Al Qassabi, also a player from the Qatari national team, finished 14th with six points. Abdullah Al Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, emphasized that the tournament witnessed significant participation from all age groups, especially youth, reflecting the popularity of chess as a mental sport that enhances concentration. For his part, Hamad Al Tamimi, Executive Director of the Qatar Chess Association, said that these tournaments effectively contribute to spreading the game of chess and expanding its practitioner base within Qatari society, especially among youth. He emphasized that the atmosphere of the tournament was distinctive, and that the matches were full of strength and challenging from the first round.
