Hamzah Zainudin's father-in-law passes away after house fire
The Office of the Opposition Leader confirmed the matter when contacted, adding that the body is currently at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.
It is understood that the 83-year-old was admitted to the hospital following a house fire on June 19 and had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit due to internal complications and respiratory difficulties caused by the incident.
The funeral prayer will be held tonight after the Isyak prayer at Kampung Melayu Sungai Rapat Mosque, and he will be laid to rest at the Kampung Rapat Jaya Muslim Cemetery.
Meanwhile, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim extended his condolences to Hamzah and family, praying that Abdul Ghani's soul be blessed with mercy, forgiven of all sins, accepted for his good deeds and placed among the righteous.
In the June 19 incident, Abdul Ghani's wife, Datin Salmiah Nyak Matt, 84, died after she was found unconscious in a downstairs bedroom by rescue personnel.
Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the fire involved a two-storey house with six occupants. Four individuals, aged between 18 and 49, managed to escape unhurt. - Bernama

PAGOH, July 6 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has reportedly dismissed claims that PAS is attempting to undermine his leadership of the Opposition coalition. Muhyiddin said the Islamist party, including its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, remained supportive of his role at the helm of PN. 'In the last meeting several months ago to discuss PN matters, Hadi said he supported me as PN chairperson,' he was quoted saying by Malaysiakini. Muhyiddin also revealed he had previously suggested that PAS take over the PN leadership as part of a rotational system. 'I said it would be good for PAS to take over, take turns so that PAS is the PN chair... But they did not want it.' 'They said 'no, Tan Sri should continue',' he added, referring to himself as the chairman. Last month, Malaysiakini reported that PAS had allegedly proposed a restructuring of PN to give Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin greater operational authority. This involved setting up an executive committee led by the Opposition Leader to manage PN's day-to-day operations, while the presidents of component parties Bersatu, PAS Gerakan, and the Malaysian Indian People's Party would remain in the PN Supreme Council. The report also claimed that Hamzah is being lobbied as the pact's prime minister candidate in the next general election. However, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan then denied any such proposal. Last week, Hamzah also denied any rift within PN and its lynchpin Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, saying critics were merely trying to divide the two. Hamzah denied any move to oust Muhyiddin from leading the pact and party, saying it would be foolish for anyone to plan an ouster without discussing the succession plan with him.

KEPALA BATAS: Umno must embrace new strategies to recapture parliamentary seats it lost in previous elections, including Kepala Batas, according to its vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. He stressed that the party can no longer rely on conventional methods, especially with the changing political landscape influenced by Undi 18. Wan Rosdy highlighted the need for aggressive outreach to younger voters, including students and Pahang-born individuals residing outside the state. 'If we use the same approach, we will get the same results. We must adopt new methods to strengthen public confidence in the government,' he said after officiating the Kepala Batas Umno Division Delegates Meeting. The Kepala Batas parliamentary seat, once held by former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi from 1978 to 2013, was lost to Perikatan Nasional (PN) in GE15. PN candidate Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad won with a 2,867-vote majority against Umno's Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican. Wan Rosdy urged local Umno members to strategize effectively to reclaim the seat. He dismissed PN's claims of targeting Pahang in GE16, stating that the opposition relies on sentiment rather than ground realities. 'They do not understand Pahang's actual situation. Asean foreign ministers to adopt five key outcome documents this week
KUALA LUMPUR: The 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and its related meetings, to be held from July 8 to 11, will see the adoption of five key outcome documents and the participation of foreign ministers and leaders from 35 countries. Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin said the outcome documents include the Joint Statement of the 58th AMM, the Chairman's Statement on the Asean Post Ministerial Conferences (PMC) with 10 Asean Dialogue Partners (10+1), and the Chairman's Statement of the 26th Asean Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Also to be adopted are the Chairman's Statement of the 15th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the Chairman's Statement of the 32nd Asean Regional Forum (ARF). The high-level meetings, hosted at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), are expected to gather some 1,500 delegates. These include foreign ministers from Asean member states, Timor-Leste, Asean Dialogue Partners, ARF participating countries, Sectoral Dialogue Partners, and senior officials from the Asean Secretariat. Amran said the participation of leaders and foreign ministers reflects a genuine interest, despite the overlapping schedules of international and regional meetings. "As soon as Malaysia assumed the Asean Chairmanship, expectations were already high among Asean member states and dialogue partners for stronger Asean-external cooperation. "These expectations are not just from within Asean but also from dialogue and sectoral dialogue partners, as well as countries associated with Asean. "The participation of leaders and foreign ministers is routine and reflects genuine interest. "So far, participation has been very encouraging," he said. The series of meetings will begin tomorrow with the Asean Senior Officials' Meeting and the Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Commission (SEANWFZ ExCom). On Tuesday, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will receive his counterparts from Asean, along with the Asean Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste. This will be followed by the Asean Foreign Ministers' Interface Meeting with representatives of the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and the Meeting of the SEANWFZ Commission. Trilateral meetings involving Malaysia, Brazil and the Asean Secretariat, as well as Malaysia, Norway and the Asean Secretariat, are also scheduled. On Wednesday, delegates will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will officiate the Opening Ceremony of the 58th AMM. This will be followed by the 58th AMM Plenary Session and the AMM Retreat Session. A Signing Ceremony for the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) will also be held. Thursday will feature the Asean Post-Ministerial Conferences with Asean's key partners including China, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, South Korea, and the United States. Additional engagements include a trilateral meeting between Malaysia, Switzerland and the Asean Secretariat, the 6th Mekong-Japan Cooperation Ministerial Meeting, and the 26th Asean Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting. A gala dinner for foreign ministers and their spouses, hosted by Mohamad Hasan and his spouse, will be held that evening. On the final day, a trilateral meeting between Malaysia, Turkiye and the Asean Secretariat will take place. The Asean Post-Ministerial Conferences will continue with the United Kingdom and the European Union, followed by the 15th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the 13th Mekong–Republic of Korea Cooperation Ministerial Meeting, the 32nd Asean Regional Forum, and the Fourth Conference on Cooperation Among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD IV). The week-long event will conclude with a press conference by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
