'Your skin tends to repair and renew itself at night. It is the ideal time to nourish and treat your skin,' she adds. The right skincare before hitting the bed can boost hydration, reduce signs of ageing, and improve overall skin health. Dr Shareefa further adds that it is imperative to speak to the doctor and come up with an appropriate routine as per your requirements.
Nighttime skincare tips for glowing skin
Cleansing is necessary: Cleaning your skin is the first and most important part of the nighttime skincare routine. It is necessary to start by removing all makeup, dirt, and oil that have built up during the day. Opt for a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type to keep pores clean and prevent breakouts. Dr. Shareefa recommends not to rub the skin too hard; be gentle. Use a toner: Are you aware that a toner can help balance your skin's pH and tighten pores? Choose a toner as per your skin types and skin issues. Use an alcohol-free toner with soothing ingredients like rose water or green tea. Apply toner on a cotton swab and pat on your skin. This removes excess oil and removes any makeup or pollution residue from your skin. You can also include a toner spray to your skincare routine. Say YES to serum: Dr. Shareefa states that night is the best time to use serums that are loaded with active ingredients like vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, or niacinamide and retinoids. These ingredients target concerns like pigmentation, dryness, and fine lines, and enhance your skin texture. However, it's recommended that you use the serum as per your skin type. Don't just blindly use any products just because they are promoted on social media or come in fancy packaging. Use a moisturiser or night cream: Don't skip a moisturiser or a night cream, come what may! A nourishing moisturiser or a night cream enhances the hydration of the skin. Try to choose moisturisers or night creams with ingredients such as ceramides, peptides, or aloe vera, recommends Dr Shareefa. Eye cream: Under eye creams or patches are no less than a magic wand for your skin. These eye creams helps combat puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines. Eye creams generally have thicker consistency for the delicate under-eye region. These eye creams also boost hydration and keep your under-eye area supple and soft. Lip balm for soft lips: If you thought, nighttime skincare is only limited to your face, time to rethink! The skin of your lips are softer and tender as compared to your face, hence, it is important to sleep after applying a hydrating lip balm to keep your lips hydrated throughout the night.
So, the crux is, no matter what, don't skip your nighttime skincare ritual, be consistent and follow the routine religiously for optimal results.

JNUSU president hospitalised amid ongoing hunger stir
Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president Nitish Kumar was hospitalised on Tuesday, the 12th day of an ongoing hunger strike, after he complained of chest pain, JNUSU members said. Students have been on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the reinstatement of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE), which has been replaced with a UGC-NET-based entrance system in recent years. The other demands include increasing the merit-cum-means scholarship and revocation of hostel eviction notices for PhD scholars on academic extension. Mr. Kumar, a member of the Left-affiliated All India Students' Association (AISA), was taken to Safdarjung Hospital. Loni, a JNU student and an AISA activist, who participated in the hunger strike, was also rushed to AIIMS on Tuesday afternoon after she blacked out. Both of them are said to be in stable condition. The JNUSU, in an open letter to the JNU Teachers' Association, stated that 14 students have been on hunger strike. 'Our principal demand is the restoration of the JNUEE. This exam has long ensured that this campus remains accessible to students from diverse backgrounds across the country. Its continuation is essential for safeguarding the inclusive character and academic integrity of JNU,' the letter read.

Experts call for inclusion of Chronic Kidney Disease in national NCD programme
Hyderabad-based dialysis care network, NephroPlus, has urged policymakers to include Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) screening in India's flagship National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), as it released a white paper highlighting the rising burden of CKD across India and neighbouring countries. Speaking at a media briefing in Hyderabad on Tuesday, NephroPlus Group CEO Rohit Singh said the findings of the white paper and a large-scale screening initiative make a strong case for integrating CKD testing, particularly serum creatinine and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR), into existing government-led screenings for hypertension and diabetes. 'The burden is silent but severe. CKD needs to be part of India's NCD strategy immediately,' he said. The paper is based on data from a kidney health screening campaign conducted in the lead-up to World Kidney Day in March. The campaign spanned 30 locations across India, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan, and covered 12 Indian States. A total of 10,501 persons pledged for kidney health awareness, of whom more than 5,000 underwent free serum creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) tests. NephroPlus found that several Indian States reported high prevalence of CKD risk factors. Jharkhand topped the list, followed by Haryana and Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat and Rajasthan. NephroPlus co-founder Kamal D. Shah stressed the economic and emotional toll of dialysis. 'Dialysis is not just a treatment; it is a lifelong ordeal that drains families physically, emotionally and financially. Our data shows that investing ₹1 in prevention saves ₹10 to ₹15 in future dialysis costs,' he said.

Pharma lobby flags 'cumbersome' export rule, seeks change
New Delhi: A significant dip in exports has prompted pharma lobby groups to raise a demand for changing the centralised no-object certification (NOC) provision for drug exports . The provision, which requires pharma companies to seek an approval from the national regulatory agency of the importing country or an NOC from the Indian regulator for shipments, has resulted in a drop in exports and diverted trade to other nations, industry executives told ET. The issue was raised in a meeting held on Monday at Niti Aayog . "Pharma exports have suffered due to the mismatch or an anomaly in newly introduced regulatory standards by the drug regulatory authority of India," said a person who attended the meeting. "Taking approvals from different regulatory bodies has only made the whole process cumbersome," the person cited above said. He noted that medicines are manufactured depending on the patient population construct. "While India has made remarkable strides as a global pharma hub, maintaining consistent, internationally acceptable quality standards remains a key challenge, especially among MSME companies," he said. "The root of the problem often lies not in intent, but in outdated infrastructure, fragmented regulatory enforcement, and insufficient technical training," Masurkar said. "To produce world-class medicines, we must invest in continuous quality improvement, digitalise compliance systems, and empower our MSME sector with both financial and technical support."
