Jake Haener suffers oblique strain, likely out until training camp
Jake Haener is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the offseason program by an oblique strain, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Part of the three-way competition that also includes Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough, Haener suffered the injury after Wednesday's OTA practice while throwing extra passes. An MRI revealed that Haener had a strain but did not suffer a tear, which means he does not need surgery.
He is expected to miss a couple of weeks, but should be ready for the start of training camp.
A fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft, Haener appeared in eight games with one start last season. He completed 18-of-39 passes for 226 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

More than a hundred are set to be fined and/or lose their allocation for the next two Super Bowls after league sources revealed they sold their tickets for more than face value. 'Our initial investigation has determined that a number of NFL players and coaches, employed by several NFL Clubs, sold Super Bowl tickets for more than the ticket's face value in violation of the policy,' NFL chief compliance officer Sabrina Perel said in a memo sent out to all 32 NFL teams. The 100 players represent a little over 6% of the entire NFL player rosters. But per an ESPN report, there are team employees, including coaches, who are among the number who sold their tickets. 'This long-standing League Policy, which is specifically incorporated into the Collective Bargaining Agreement, prohibits League or Club employees, including players, from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than the ticket's face value or for an amount greater than the employee originally paid for the ticket, whichever is less,' the memo continued. Players and team personnel sold the tickets to 'bundlers' who were working with resellers, per the memo. Penalties will increase for anyone deemed to be working with the bundlers to help facilitate sales. Fines would be one and a half times what the player or employee sold the ticket for, and they would lose the chance to acquire them for the next two Super Bowls. There could also be suspensions involved. Some of the players involved have already elected to pay the fines. Those who lose their allotment would only be able to purchase tickets if they are playing in the Super Bowl. The league would not release names of players, coaches or team personnel who were part of the crackdown. Tickets for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, which resulted in a 40-22 win for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, ranged in cost from $2,588 to nearly $3,500 for the cheapest seats. On the high end, some tickets were more than $10,000. Sneakers Kobe Bryant wore in first NBA start sell for large amount
Even five years after his tragic death, Kobe Bryant continues to be arguably the most beloved superstar in Los Angeles Lakers history. "Photo-matching company Sports Investors Authentication matched the shoes to 'being worn by Kobe Bryant on January 28, 1997 -- Bryant's first career NBA game as a starter.' Both shoes are signed, and both autographs include letters of authentication from Professional Sports Authenticator's authentication arm, PSA/DNA." That first start for Bryant came during a road game against the Dallas Mavericks, and on that day, he made five of his 11 field-goal attempts and scored 12 points in 32 minutes. Back in February, the sneakers Bryant wore in 2013 when he tore his Achilles went for $660,000 at an auction. In April, a jersey that was photo-matched to the one he wore during his first regular-season game was sold for $7 million. ESPN names Ohio State as a college basketball team that could 'make a jump' this season
We are all getting ready for the start of the college football season now just a little over a month away, but the college basketball season won't be too far behind. In fact, we're now within 100 days of the Ohio State basketball season, and ESPN took a big look at previewing hoops for 2025-2026 by looking at many different angles and storylines. One of the things Myron Metcalf and Jeff Borzello touched on was ten teams that "could make a jump" this coming season. And, if you are an Ohio State fan, then you have to like what the ESPN duo things of the Buckeyes this season because they were named as one of those ten teams. OSU was able to retain some key pieces of its core group, but outside of that, there's been a major overhaul of the guys suiting up in the scarlet and gray this season. The mix of old and new will have to come together for the Buckeyes to get back to the NCAA Tournament, but there's good reason to believe that it could happen. Here's what Borzello says about Ohio State this winter: "The Buckeyes showed flashes of their potential last season but couldn't quite string together a consistent run of form. With a terrific trio back in Bruce Thornton, Devin Royal and John Mobley Jr. -- plus the additions of Christoph Tilly and Brandon Noel up front -- Jake Diebler's team should find itself in the NCAA tournament." It sure seems like Ohio State hasn't had a shortage of talent over the last few years, but getting the team to come together and play as a team has been an issue that seems to be a problem in today's day and age of the transfer portal and name, image and likeness. Here's to hoping ESPN is right and that the Buckeyes make it back to meaningful games late and on into the postseason this basketball season.
