Two killed in shootout with cops in Jitra
Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said before the incident, policemen patrolling the area came across a suspicious four-wheel drive vehicle which was ordered to stop.
'The suspects then opened fire on the police vehicle, ending in a shootout that left both suspects killed in the vehicle.
'In the vehicle, police found two firearms, a revolver and semi-automatic pistol, several bullets; a machete and tools for carrying out their criminal activities,' he told reporters at the scene, Bernama reported.
He said a background check on one of the suspects, aged 41, revealed that he has more than 40 criminal records, while the identity of the other suspect was still unknown due to lack of identification documents.

'We believe these two are part of a larger group that commits violent crimes across the country, including drug trafficking, gangsterism, factory break-ins and armed robberies.
'This gang is believed to have been active since 2020.
'So far, the forensic unit has found three bullet casings at the scene, and the investigation process is still underway. The bodies of the two suspects have been sent to the Forensic Department of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for autopsy, and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempted murder),' he said.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID ) acting director Datuk Fadil Marsus, who was also present at the crime scene, said the two suspects are believed to be involved in a criminal gang committing serious crimes.
'We are investigating whether these suspects are linked to a criminal group in Klang, Selangor.
'The group is believed to have more than 30 members and police will take more aggressive action,' he said.

"The claim for exemplary damages is not allowed as there is no cogent evidence before this court to support such an award," he said during the decision for the assessment of damages today. The proceeding was held online. The court ordered interest of five per cent per annum on the judgment sum to be imposed from the date of judgment until full satisfaction of the award. Ku Muhammad Hilmie Ku Din, 35, was also ordered to pay costs of RM20,000. In his judgment, Shahrir said the court found that the defamatory allegations levelled against Rosmah impute her involvement in supernatural practices and associate her with spiritual entities. "These imputations constitute an attack on her character in the domains of religious integrity and moral standing. "In a societal context where religious values and moral propriety carry significant weight, such allegations assume a particular seriousness and have the potential to cause distinct reputational harm,' he said. Police arrest father and son for murder after body found in Ampang
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two men, including a 73-year-old, in connection with a murder that occurred in Taman Pandan Perdana, Ampang, last month. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the case initially began as a sudden death report after police received a call from a medical assistant at Hospital Kuala Lumpur at 7.16pm on June 22, alerting them to the death of a man at Jalan Perdana 6/5. "Police immediately rushed to the scene and the death was confirmed by a medical assistant. "However, following a post-mortem at the Ampang Hospital forensic unit the next day, elements of foul play were detected. The post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was necrotising soft tissue infections due to skin and skeletal injuries. The victim's body was discovered inside the home of one of the suspects. "The case was subsequently reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today. Following the discovery, a team from the district's Criminal Investigation Department (D9) arrested two local men believed to be involved in the case between June 26 and 28. The suspects are a 36-year-old self-employed man and his 73-year-old father, who is unemployed. "Police also seized a bamboo cane and an adjustable plier believed to be linked to the case," Azam said. He added that both suspects tested negative for drugs and have no prior criminal records. The first suspect has been remanded for 14 days starting June 27 until July 10, while the second suspect was remanded for 13 days from June 29 to July 11. Azam said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or up to 40 years' imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. "The motive is believed to be debt-related," he added.

Security guard charged with murder
KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard was charged in the Magistrate's Court here on Monday (July 7) with the murder of a man during a street fight in Sentul two months ago. K. Nagentherah, 39, nodded in understanding after the charge was read before Magistrate MS Arunjothy, but no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. He is accused of murdering K. Kumaran, 44, by the roadside at Taman Intan Baiduri, Sentul here, at 9.23pm on May 25. The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.
