Lokesh to inaugurate VR High School today
HRD Minister Nara Lokesh will inaugurate VRMCHS on Monday (July 7). Students at VRMCHS will receive free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and bus services. Notably, this is the first school to introduce digital education on panel boards with international standards, a pioneering initiative in the region.
The P-4 concept, envisioned by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, inspired Narayana, a former student and part-time lecturer at VR institutions, to reopen the school, which had closed in 2021. Nagarjuna Construction Company donated Rs 15 crore for renovations and infrastructure as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
A Venkatamma, a daily-wage laborer from Ranganayakula Pet, expressed gratitude, saying, 'I never dreamed my son could study at VRMCHS. Thanks to Narayana Sir, his corporate education is now a reality.'
During the 2024 elections, Narayana noticed many students unable to afford corporate schools due to poverty, prompting him to provide accessible education with philanthropists' support.
He stated, 'As a former VR student, I felt responsible for reopening VRMCHS. I'm confident all 54 municipal schools will transform similarly.'
Historically, VR High School has a rich legacy. In 1875, Sunkuru Narayana Swamy Chetty founded the Anglo Vernacular School (AVS) with 152 students but stepped down due to financial issues. Later, Haji Mahammodh Rahiman Tullah reopened it after purchasing the land for Rs 2,400, but it closed again by 1886. Raja Krishna Yachendra Bahadur, the 28th Raja of Venkatagiri, established a permanent fund of Rs 50,000, renaming it Venkatagiri Raja School.
Eminent figures like former CM Bejawada Gopala Reddy and high court judges studied there.
Despite its past glory, VR institutions, including VR Degree College and VR Law College, faced closure in 2021 due to court disputes, leading to VRMCHS's revival.

Accused in Gopal Khemka murder case gunned down in encounter in Patna
Patna: An accused linked to the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka was gunned down after an encounter in Bihar capital's Malsalami locality early Tuesday morning, officials said. The accused, identified as Vikas Kumar alias Raja, allegedly accompanied the shooter, Umesh Yadav, who was directly involved in Khemka's murder on Friday night. Bihar's Special Task Force (STF) and Malsalami police conducted the raid based on information extracted from Umesh during interrogation. Earlier, police had arrested Umesh, identified as the main shooter in the case. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Vikas was involved in illegal arms trading in the Malsalami area and had sold the weapon to Umesh that was used in the murder of Khemka. According to an official, the police team reached Vikas's house around 2.45 a.m. on Tuesday, where he opened fire on the joint team. The officials of Bihar STF and Malsalami police retaliated. After a brief gunfight, the accused was neutralised. 'So far, we have detained two individuals and arrested the main shooter in the Gopal Khemka case. Our investigation indicates that an individual had taken a contract of Rs 10 lakh to kill Khemka and subcontracted it to Umesh for Rs 1 lakh,' a senior police officer said, adding that further details will be shared as the investigation progresses. Businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead in Patna on Friday night, triggering shock and concern among the business community and raising questions about the law and order situation in the state capital. The high-profile murder case put the Nitish Kumar government in a spot at a time when the ruling coalition of JD(U) and BJP is prepping for the Assembly polls. MLA Vemula Veeresham lays foundation stone for Indiramma houses
Nakrekal (Nalgonda ): Foundation stones were laid for the sanctioned Indiramma housing scheme in several villages of Ketepally mandal, including Kasanagodu, Bopparam, Gudivada, Ippalagudem, and Korlapahad. Speaking on the occasion, Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham expressed his satisfaction, stating that many poor families had been suffering without proper housing for the past 10 years. 'Our government has sanctioned 3,500 houses for our constituency, and today, we see happiness in the eyes of the beneficiaries,' he said. He criticised the previous government for showing false hope through the double-bedroom scheme, which, according to him, did not deliver a single house in many villages. 'There are still many eligible people in these villages. We have requested another 3,500 houses from the government, and I will ensure that every poor family receives a home,' he assured. The MLA congratulated all those who had their Indiramma house foundations laid on Monday and added, 'Every Monday, the government releases the funds. If beneficiaries build their homes carefully within the Rs 5 lakh grant, it will be a great achievement without additional burden.'
