1 in 3 Goa taxis now local app-based as state bars outside aggregators
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's recent announcement that his government will not allow cab aggregators from outside Goa has raised hopes for the local app-based mobility platforms, which have been in the market for some time now.
As per government figures, out of the total 12,000 tourist taxis operating in the state, 5,000 are on board the app-based platforms, mostly with two companies -- Goa Miles and Goa Taxi App.
The Goa Miles alone has a fleet of 4,000-odd taxis on board.
Allaying the apprehensions raised by local tourist taxi drivers over the Goa Transport Aggregators Guidelines 2025, CM Sawant on Friday said cab aggregators from outside will not be allowed in the state.
The draft guidelines were issued on May 20. The last date to give suggestions and raise objections is June 30.
Goa Miles Chief Executive Officer Utkarsh Dabhade told PTI that their service, which is affiliated to the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, was introduced seven years ago.
"Since the introduction of the app-based service, we have been receiving good response from tourists and locals alike," he said.
On an average, the Goa Miles fleet transports 15,000 passengers daily, of whom 85 per cent are tourists and 15 per cent local travellers, Dabhade said.
He said their services are available across the state, majorly at both the airports - Manohar International Airport at Mopa (in North Goa) and the international airport at Dabolim (South Goa).
The service has been completely a Goan brand with 100 per cent of the staff, including taxi owners, from the state, he said.
The state-run Goa Taxi App has been active for the last two years with more than 1,000 taxis on board the platform.
The service, having been introduced by the state government, is completely tourist-friendly with regards to rates and other facilities, a senior Goa Taxi App official said.
It would be beneficial for all the tourist taxi owners to get onboard the app-based service to get better business and also other facilities, he added.

GTDC to appoint consultant to oversee tourism village development scheme
Panaji: After identifying five villages to be developed as tourism villages, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has now initiated the process to appoint a consultant to oversee how the five villages can be used to promote sustainable rural tourism. The Centre's tourism village development scheme aims to transform the select villages into model tourism destinations while providing economic opportunities to locals. The department plans to set up kiosks for local artisans and farmers, upgrade market areas to meet tourism standards, build multi-utility halls for fairs and performances, bring in safety measures, and establish basic amenities such as tourist information counters with first aid facilities, seating areas, gazebos, and community waste bins. The GTDC wants the consultant to assess the village's tourism potential, outline infrastructure needs, provide site analysis, and assist with statutory approvals. Through this scheme, the tourism department wants to showcase Goa's rural heritage, diversify tourism-driven economic growth, and decongest the coastline. The move comes at a time when overcrowding at mainstream tourist hubs has raised concerns among locals and policymakers. 6k farmers got Rs 24cr aid under PM Kisan Samman: Sawant
1 2 Bicholim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Saturday that so far, around 6,000 farmers in Goa have received Rs 24 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. On Aug 2, another Rs 1.2 crore will be deposited in the farmers' bank accounts, with each farmer receiving Rs 1.2 lakh by Saturday, he said. Sawant was addressing farmers at a special programme under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim. 'Today, while giving these farmers a dignified life, credit card facilities have been provided by which any farmer can take a loan of at least Rs 1 lakh from banks without mortgaging their farms. If any bank is refusing to give this loan to farmers, they should directly contact the divisional agriculture officer in their area or their office and get a loan for themselves,' he said. The CM said the income from Goa's horticulture sector has significantly increased. Goa is now exporting vegetables instead of importing them, which is a major achievement of this govt that respects and supports farmers. Around 16,000 farmers in Goa were registered under the Kisan credit card. However, after 10,000 cards were cancelled due to clan land issues, now only around 6,000 farmers benefit from central govt schemes, he said. He also said govt is implementing schemes to modernise and support farmers, and many are taking advantage of these schemes. Mining agreements will have condition to hire locals: CM
Porvorim: A private member's resolution demanding preference for the hiring of local truck operators and heavy equipment owners by mining companies was withdrawn after chief minister Pramod Sawant assured the House that the state's mining policy would be modified to address these concerns. He also assured that conditions for employing locals would be included in the lease agreements with mining companies. The resolution, moved by MLA Carlos Ferreira, sought to mandate all mining leaseholders in the state to prioritise the hiring of trucks, earth movers, tipper vehicles, and other heavy equipment owned and operated by Goans. The proposed measure aimed to support local employment and stimulate economic growth in mining-affected regions. Supporting the resolution, MLA Nilesh Cabral raised concerns about mining companies outsourcing operations to outsiders. MLA Viresh Borkar pointed to practices where new mining leaseholders insist on engaging high-capacity trucks from Karnataka for transportation operations. Opposition leader Yuri Alemao demanded that mining companies be asked to re-employ previously retrenched mining workers and make opportunities for locals mandatory.
