Notre Dame football's wildly successful week had social media buzzing

USA Today23-06-2025
Notre Dame football is on another one of its recruiting heaters, as they added three more commitments to its 2026 class in offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh, cornerback Khary Adams and safety Joey O'Brien.
The group now sits at nineteen verbals, and ranks as the No. 3 overall class in the 247Sports Team Composite behind just USC and Texas A&M, both opponents for the Irish this coming fall.
Both Notre Dame and the Aggies have the same amount of committed players, while the Trojans have eleven more. It seems like this Irish class has much more staying power, as they'll look for the first top-5 finish since 2013.
There was plenty of positive results for Notre Dame this weekend, and lets take a look at some of the top social media reactions to the Irish capturing the headlines.
A very impressive class
Marcus Freeman is laying a foundation for success for the Irish, and it looks like it could end up being a prolonged window of great football. It's not just recruiting, but the product on the field, however, the elite additions from the high school ranks don't hurt.
Notre Dame has made Penn State's miserable
It hasn't just been the semifinal win in the College Football Playoff that these two teams have battled, Notre Dame took running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider and each of the three commits had the Nittany Lions as a finalist. It's a regional game, and right now, there aren't many teams in the Midwest or East coast that have the recruiting pull that Notre Dame does.
It sure feels good to be on the other Seid(er)
Image if Seider hadn't made the move, but that clearly isn't the case. While none of the three commits are going to be in his room, you have to believe that his contacts in the East paid dividends. Many of us are excited about what he can do as a coach, but he's already shown that he is one of the top recruiters on staff.
Not done?
With room for more, one of the most recent commits gives all of us hope that this run isn't over. The Irish still have more than a few top prospects that are still considering them, and you can't discount the potential to flip a few committed players. This could be viewed as one of the top Notre Dame classes in a very long time.
DMM
The slogan for Notre Dame's defensive backs coach says all we need to know. He landed two of the top secondary prospects in the class, and should have another elite unit on the field this fall. It doesn't look like the Irish will have any issues defending the pass as long as Mickens is coaching the unit.
Historical?
It's one thing to have a culmination of top prospects committed, it's entirely another to see mulitple of them commit on the same day. While we did know that there was potential for Adams and O'Brien to be a packaged deal, it doesn't always work out that way. It did in this case, and Notre Dame won't complain about it one bit.
The architect
Everything that transpired this weekend has to start at the top with Freeman, as his vision for the program has come true in just three short years. Many believed that you couldn't be an elite football team with the academic standards that Notre Dame has, but the head coach has proven that theory to be false.
Malik Zaire knows who's behind this effort
While Freeman and Mickens have already been highlighted for having their hands all over the recruiting success Notre Dame has had, former quarterback Zaire can see it too. It's pretty obvious that these two work very well together, as the Irish continue to add top-end talent to its already impressive secondary.
No thanks
Nobody wants to see Freeman leaving South Bend to the NFL, but when teams are hoping that is the case, it's a very good thing. It doesn't seem like he wants to move away from the program anytime soon, as his vision is finally coming to fruition. Freeman is building a monster, and I'm sure he wants to be around when it can't be stopped.
Notre Dame is cooking
It seems like these runs have become commonplace in the Freeman era, and Notre Dame is on another one at the moment. The Irish have elevated its recruiting efforts, and it's really starting to show after the deep run into the CFP. I don't think this is a coincidence, I think it's going to be the norm going forward.

College football writer thinks new Oklahoma Sooners GM will be a home run

The Oklahoma Sooners made a very big hire this offseason when they brought in Jim Nagy as their new general manager. Nagy previously ran the Senior Bowl, but he's got plenty of experience in NFL circles and was a huge get for OU. Oklahoma needed a new general manager and a new direction when it came to player evaluation and player acquisition. Nagy offers both, as the Sooners have altered the way they view high school recruiting, NIL and the transfer portal in the months that Nagy has been on staff. The new GM has also shifted Oklahoma's front office model, making plenty of new hires this offseason. It was a bold move for the Sooners, but one that the program and its fan base are hoping will work out. After six straight conference titles and four College Football Playoff trips from 2015 to 2020, OU has fallen behind in the four years since, as the portal and name, image, and likeness have changed the game more than Oklahoma thought they would. The Sooners haven't played for a conference championship in the last four years, went through a coaching change, and haven't gotten all that close to the CFP. Nagy has been hired to fix all of that on the player acquisition side of things where Oklahoma has slipped behind the pack. He's also going to be managing the new revenue-sharing era of college football in the near future. Brad Crawford, who covers college football for CBS Sports, believes the Sooners nailed it with the Nagy hire and that things will pan out in a positive way for Oklahoma. He made one bold prediction for each SEC team this week and believes that Nagy will be tabbed as the conference's best offseason hire. How often does someone in an off-the-field role take center stage in the SEC? The general manager position is rapidly gaining importance in college football. We're likely to see that evolution accelerate this season, thanks in part to the success already shown by Oklahoma with the arrival of Jim Nagy. He brings nearly two decades of personnel and scouting experience to Norman, drawn from the NFL and his time as executive director of the Senior Bowl. Most importantly, Nagy is coach Brent Venables' designated talent evaluator -- tasked with managing the roster and identifying the right personnel fits for what Oklahoma wants to build on both sides of the ball. - Brad Crawford, CBS Sports. Nagy's talent evaluation skills and roster management will be put to the test in Norman. It's been a rocky stretch at OU over the past few seasons, but the Sooners swung for the fences with multiple moves this offseason, one of the biggest being the Nagy hire. College football has changed so drastically in the first half of the 2020s. It's no secret that things have slipped at bit at Oklahoma. Bring in Jim Nagy is OU's big move to make sure that they can get back to the top. Jaylon Johnson among 4 Chicago Bears on the non-football injury list as training camp nears

Cornerback Jaylon Johnson was one of four Chicago Bears players placed on the non-football injury list Saturday afternoon, a surprise twist as the team readies for training camp. Other Bears given the NFI designation were backup quarterback Case Keenum, second-year running back Ian Wheeler and receiver Jahdae Walker, an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M. Johnson, the team's top cornerback, was by far the most significant name on the list with no immediate clarity on the specifics of his ailment. Quarterbacks and rookies began checking in to Halas Hall on Saturday for training camp with the full team's reporting date coming Tuesday. The Bears' first practice is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Players with NFI status — designated as such due to an injury or illness that occurred away from official team activity — are ineligible to practice until cleared but still count against a team's 90-man roster limit. Players who remain on the NFI list after the league's final cutdown day at the end of the preseason are required to miss a minimum of four games. Johnson, who signed a four-year, $76 million extension during the 2024 offseason, was not present for the entirety of the team's mandatory minicamp last month, with Bears coach Ben Johnson acknowledging his absence as 'excused.' (Jaylon Johnson's charity golf tournament was taking place that week in California.) Ben Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles are scheduled to address the media Tuesday afternoon at Halas Hall. The team already has a short list of significant players with injuries that might affect their availability for the start of camp, including Braxton Jones (ankle), Colston Loveland (shoulder) and Luther Burden III (undisclosed). Jaylon Johnson's status will be worth monitoring as the team marches into Ben Johnson's first camp as coach with designs on becoming a playoff contender this season.

Florida tied for 11th best blue-chip ratio in college football

The blue-chip ratio isn't a perfect science, but it remains true that each of the last 14 NCAA champions has a roster comprised of at least 50% four- and five-star talents. Bud Elliott of CBS Sports invented the stat over a decade ago, and it has remained a popular projection tool for identifying which teams are true contenders entering the regular season. While any team has a chance to make the College Football Playoff, only 18 have the blue-chip ratio necessary to finish on top. Florida finds itself in a three-way tie for No. 11 on the list, alongside Auburn and Miami, with a 64% blue-chip ratio. Sixteen of the 26 class of 2025 signees are rated four stars or higher, which is just below the four-year average used. Billy Napier might have signed his first top-10 class, but the BCR trend says he's relying a little too heavily on three-star talent to buff the numbers. Signing one or two fewer three stars would have helped the BCR over the next four years, but the potential of adding an undervalued recruit is too high for Napier to ignore. 2025 Blue Chip Ratio Top 18 How has this stat performed in the past? The Blue-Chip Ratio is not... "A requirement to make the College Football Playoff. While related, making the College Football Playoff and winning it are two drastically different accomplishments in terms of difficulty. Schedule strength plays a much bigger role in the former. Plenty of teams outside the BCR threshold made the four-team College Football Playoff (typically getting crushed, by the way), and many more will make the new 12-team field." "A substitute for player development, culture or coaching. All of those elements matter and are necessary to win the national title. The BCR is simply the minimum historical standard of recruiting necessary to win it all." "To be used to pick games. It is not an effective predictive measure in single-game settings."
