Investec Champions Cup semi-final: Leinster v NorthamptonVenue: Aviva Stadium, Dublin Date: Saturday, 3 May Kick-off: 17:30 BSTCoverage: Live commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra and BBC Radio Northampton
Leinster make wholesale changes including recalling Ireland captain Caelan Doris and fly-half Sam Prendergast for their Champions Cup semi-final against Northampton Saints.Veteran prop Cian Healy is the sole survivor from Leinster's United Rugby Championship defeat by Scarlets while in contrast Saints' only change from from their Premiership win over Bristol Bears is the return of prop Trevor Davison.Number eight Doris returns to captain the hosts at Aviva Stadium while Ireland wing James Lowe and scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park also start. New Zealand's World Cup winner Jordie Barrett is named on the bench. Reigning Premiership champions Saints arrive in Dublin with a strong side that will include England wing Tommy Freeman and fly-half Fin Smith, who will line-up against Prendergast in what has been framed as a head-to-head audition for selection on this summer's British and Irish Lions tour to Australia. Both fly-halves produced stellar displays in the quarter-final as Ireland's Prendergast dismantled the Glasgow defence and kicked well, while England's Smith pulled the strings with composure as Saints thumped Castres. The notable absentee for the visitors is full-back George Furbank, who made a try-scoring return from injury in their win over Castres before suffering a setback with an arm injury that had sidelined him since December.Four-time winners Leinster and the 1999-00 champions Northampton renew their European rivalry, which saw them meet at the same stage of last year's competition.England flanker Henry Pollock continues his remarkable breakthrough season with a starting berth in his first European semi-final, a year on from watching last year's game at Croke Park as a supporter in fancy dress. The hosts edged to a narrow victory on that occasion but Saints, who won the trophy in 2000, will be confident of reaching a first Champions Cup final since they were beaten by the Irish province in the 2011 showpiece.Victory for Leinster could set up a repeat of last year's final against six-time winners Toulouse, who face French rivals Bordeaux-Begles in the other semi-final on Sunday.
Line-ups
Leinster: Keenan; O'Brien, Ringrose, Henshaw, Lowe; Prendergast, Gibson-Park; Healy, Sheehan, Furlong, Snyman, McCarthy, Deegan, Van der Flier, Doris (capt).Replacements: Kelleher, Porter, Slimani, Baird, Conan, McGrath, R Byrne, Barrett.Northampton Saints: Ramm; Freeman, Dingwall (capt), Hutchinson, Litchfield; Smith, Mitchell; Iyogun, Langdon, Davison, Mayanavanua, Coles, Kemeny, Pollock, Augustus.Replacements: Walker, West, Millar Mills, Lockett, Munga, Scott-Young, James, Seabrook.Referee: Pierre Brousset (France)

Rangers 'hold' transfer talks with Serie A winger as Jamie Vardy 'open' to Ibrox deal

The Premiership side are ramping up their transfer search with the Champions League qualifiers rapidly approaching Rangers have reportedly held "concrete talks" with Como over winger Samuel Ballet. A new wide man is on the Ibrox shopping list following the departure of Vaclav Cerny at the end of last season with QPR winning the race for target Kwame Poku. ‌ And Blick Sports claims that Rangers officials have been holding talks with the Serie A side over a move for the 24-year-old who spent last season on loan at FC Zurich. ‌ The Swiss side are said to be "increasingly likely" to miss out on a permanent deal with the officials from. The Scottish Premiership side holding "concrete talks" over a deal. Norwich City and Trabzonspor are also said to be chasing a deal. With both Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers potentially heading for the exit, a new striker is also in the minds of the Rangers' higher-ups, Jamie Vardy would be "open" to a move to Glasgow. That is according to transfer insider Mick Brown - who expects "movement" on the 38-year-old's future in the coming days after his Leicester City contract officially expired. Rangers are far from alone in chasing the veteran's signature with a whopping 10 clubs said to be in the picture, but Brown told Football Insider: 'Signing Jamie Vardy would be a good move for Rangers. It's a deal they've been looking into because they're always keen to capitalise on any opportunities to sign top players on free transfers. 'I expect there will be a lot of movement this week with contracts expiring today [June 30]. It's one I expect Vardy would be open to as well, because it's less intense than the Premier League which maybe at this stage of his career he isn't best suited to. 'Plus, it would give him and opportunity to play in Europe so he's still at a high level. ‌ 'He's performed to a very good level for a number of years and now he's maybe going over the top, so a move to Rangers would be a good opportunity. 'e'd fit in well and score plenty of goals, and that's exactly what Russell Martin needs. Especially if they're expecting to lose two of their current forwards. ‌ 'Then, because he would be on a free transfer, they can save some money which would then be put towards other areas of the team.' Croatian centre-back Luka Jelenic is reportedly a target for Rangers just 12 months after a move to Osijek. The 25-year-old only joined his current club in an £800,000 deal last summer and a bargain deal could be on the cards at Ibrox. Vitoria Guimaraes has also been linked with a move - but a path appears to be clear with O Jogo reporting the club are no longer interested.

UEFA postpones decision on Crystal Palace's European place

Palace thought they had secured a place in Europe's second-tier club competition thanks to their FA Cup final win over Manchester City in May but uncertainty arose as to whether they would be allowed to enter due to UEFA's multi-club ownership rules. Outgoing Palace shareholder John Textor has an interest in French club Lyon, who qualified for the same competition. UEFA announced on Monday it needed more time to make a ruling and said Lyon had reached a settlement which would exclude them from European competition next season if a decision to relegate them to the French second tier was upheld. That relegation is the subject of an appeal by the French club. Lyon were relegated due to financial difficulties by French football's financial regulator, the DNCG. Last week it was announced Textor had agreed to sell his shareholding in Palace to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson. It was announced on Monday he had resigned from his leadership positions at Lyon as well. Whether any of that assists Palace's chances remains to be seen. Palace's case has been examined under article five of UEFA's club competition regulations, which state that as of March 1 this year, clubs wishing to be eligible for qualification in 2025-26 had to be able to demonstrate that no individual or legal entity had control or influence over more than one club participating in the same competition. Where two or more clubs fail to meet the criteria, only one can be entered, with Lyon's better league position appearing to put them ahead of Palace. Olympique Lyonnais has signed an agreement with UEFA's club financial control body The statement ⬇️ — Olympique Lyonnais 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@OL_English) June 27, 2025 Lyon said in a statement the settlement agreement they had signed with UEFA's club financial and control body (CFCB) meant the club 'could therefore participate in next season's Europa League, subject to a favourable outcome of the appeal of the DNCG decision'. That would indicate Lyon's participation hinges on the success of their appeal, but what is unclear is whether UEFA might admit Palace as well if it is satisfied requirements have been met under multi-club ownership rules – or only admit Palace if Lyon's relegation is upheld. Palace have been contacted for comment.
