Hotel management graduate arrested for posting voyeuristic videos of women in Bengaluru on Instagram
The accused, identified as Gurdeep Singh, is a resident of K R Puram who is currently unemployed and living with his brother in a rented accommodation. The police arrested him from his house after launching a suo motu investigation into his social media activities.
The Banashankari police initiated the case on June 12 after their social media wing discovered an Instagram account that was filming and posting videos of women without their consent. The incident came to light when a graduate student from a private college spoke out against the alleged harassment on her Instagram account. She alleged that she had been filmed inappropriately on Church Street and that the video was posted online without her consent.
'Recently, there was a video of me shot in public on Church Street. It was shot very inappropriately and then posted online without my consent. I tried contacting the person behind the account, and there was no response,' she stated in her video appeal.
The police said that Gurudeep's account had more than 10,000 followers on Instagram and he had uploaded approximately 45 videos to his Instagram account. They also said their analysis showed that the accused deliberately presented these videos in slow motion to maximise viewer engagement and increase the exploitative nature of the content.
The police are currently working to obtain a court order to have the Instagram account permanently deleted or deactivated.

Bengaluru woman arrested by Gujarat ATS in crackdown on ‘Al Qaeda module'
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested a fifth person allegedly linked to an Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) module. The accused, 30-year-old Shama Parveen, a native of Jharkhand who had been living in Bengaluru for the past five years, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly disseminating extremist content through social media platforms. Parveen's arrest follows the July 22 arrests of four others — Mohd Fardeen from Ahmedabad, Mohd Faiq from Delhi, Zeeshan Ali from Noida, and Sefullah Kureshi from Modasa in Gujarat's Aravalli district. These four were booked under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly promoting radical content linked to AQIS via Instagram and Facebook. A Gujarat ATS team led by DySP Virjeetsinh Parmar, with assistance from central agencies and Bengaluru city police, located and arrested Parveen on July 29. She was produced before the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court in Bengaluru, where Judge Vishwanath granted Gujarat Police a transit warrant. According to Gujarat ATS, a preliminary examination of Parveen's mobile phone revealed she was allegedly operating flagged Instagram and Facebook accounts from the investigations into the earlier accused, and had uploaded speeches of AQIS leaders like Maulana Asim Umar and Anwar al-Awlaki that promoted violent jihad and Ghazwa-e-Hind. She had also allegedly shared videos of Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lahore's Lal Masjid, which officials claim called for an armed struggle to overthrow the Indian government and foment communal discord. Officials further alleged that Parveen was also in contact with individuals linked to the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) through social media and that her online activity aimed to radicalise individuals and gain support for extremist movements. Following her arrest, Parveen was brought to Ahmedabad on a transit remand for further legal proceedings. Officials said that a more detailed examination of her phone revealed additional alleged social media handles, email accounts, and suspected links with foreign and Pakistani-based entities. Intelligence and police teams in Karnataka are now probing her local associations and any wider network she may have had. According to Gujarat ATS officials, investigations into the online activities of the earlier accused led them to an Instagram account allegedly operated by Mohd Faiq — 'sharyat_ya_shahadat' — which had reposted provocative content from accounts titled 'strangers_nation02', 'Strangers Of The Nation' and 'Strangers Of The Nation 2'. Further digital forensics had allegedly pointed investigators to Parveen. According to officials, Parveen was staying with her brother, who works for a private firm.

Navi Mumbai Teacher Arrested After Video Call With Student. She Was Semi-Nude
Mumbai: A school teacher in Navi Mumbai has been arrested after an alleged semi-nude video chat with a minor student. The 35-year-old woman has been charged in an FIR under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after the boy's father approached police. According to police sources, the teacher had been sending sexually explicit messages to the boy on social media platforms, including Instagram, for a while. The chats then moved to video calls in which she was semi-nude. These video calls continued for a while before the boy confided in his parents. The parents then approached the police and filed a complaint. In his complaint, the boy's father said the teacher's activities had affected the boy's mental health. Police have taken the teacher into custody and registered a case under the POCSO Act. Police are also investigating whether the teacher had a history of such conduct with her students. Her phone has been seized and social media accounts are being scanned for evidence, the sources said. This comes weeks after a 40-year-old woman teacher of a prominent Mumbai school was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy on multiple occasions over a year. The married woman was charged under the POCSO Act. The accused had told the police that she was attracted to the teenager during various meetings for an annual school function. The boy was initially reluctant and avoided her, so the teacher approached one of her female friends for help. The accused's friend, who has also been charged, reached out to the minor and reportedly told him that relationships between older women and teenage boys have "become quite common".
