25 rural localities in Thiruvananthapuram lack access to bus services
Though autos and taxis are available in some of these places, the absence of regular bus services significantly impacts residents—particularly school-going children, who are forced to walk long distances to reach their schools. The survey found that many students struggle to reach school on time and return late due to the lack of affordable, scheduled transport.
Pukayilathoppe, Chemboor, Chullimanoor, Pallickal, Poovakkadu, Muthuvila, SN Puram, Korany, Mamam, and Chemmaruthy are among the places with no KSRTC or private bus services according to the survey conducted by MVD via its sub-regional transport offices situated in various parts of the district.
These areas were identified in a public meeting called Janakeeya Sadasu, organized by MVD. MLAs, ward members, the police, officials from the revenue and public works departments (PWD), residents' associations, and members of the bus operators' union took part in the meeting.
Following the meeting, the Attingal Road Transport Officer (RTO) has sent a formal request to the deputy transport commissioner (DTC), urging that bus services be initiated.
The DTC forwarded the request to the transport minister's office, but a final decision is still awaited.
"The minister's office has asked the PWD to inspect road conditions in these areas. If roads are deemed fit, we can move forward with introducing KSRTC buses or allowing private services. We are looking at addressing this issue without unnecessary delay," said an MVD official.
Local panchayat members said private operators are willing to run buses but face delays in permit approvals. "We've made multiple requests for a route starting from Plampazhanji, three kilometres from Chemboor Junction," said Usha A, Chemboor ward member. "Residents of Plampazhanji and Manakodu must walk to Chemboor just to catch a bus. Earlier, there was a KSRTC service, but it was discontinued due to unknown reasons.
Children walk up to six kilometres daily. Authorities must act and ease the burden on the people."

Chandra Shekhar Aazad Demands ₹1 Crore Compensation After Rajasthan School Roof Collapse
In a strong statement following the deadly school roof collapse in Rajasthan, Aazad Samaj Party MP Chandra Shekhar Aazad held the state government accountable for the tragedy. This is not an accident—it is institutional murder."I demand from the Rajasthan government to give compensation of ₹1 crore each to the affected families and conduct a full investigation into this failure," he said. #WATCH | Delhi | On Rajasthan school roof collapse, Aazad Samaj Party MP Chandra Shekhar Aazad says, "I demand from the Rajasthan government to give compensation of Rs 1 crore each to affected families and conduct an investigation." — ANI (@ANI) July 28, 2025 The collapse occurred at a government-run school in Piplodi Village, Jhalawar district, causing panic and grief in the local community. Around 7 were killed and 21-28 students were injured by being trapped under debris. Locals allege that the school building, which dates back to 1947, had been in a visibly dangerous condition for years. Students had reportedly noticed pieces of plaster and pebbles falling from the ceiling minutes before the incident. According to student survivors, their warnings to the teachers were dismissed. This has raised fresh concerns about the safety of public infrastructure and the negligence in maintaining school buildings. 'We saw pebbles falling and told our teacher, but we were asked to sit quietly. Then the roof just came down,' said a Class 8 student who narrowly survived. Aazad criticized the state's education and PWD departments for failing to act despite red flags. He urged that not only should there be a judicial probe, but also accountability fixed on officials responsible for ignoring the warnings. Political leaders and civil society groups have echoed the demand for justice, as families mourn their loss. Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajanlal Sharma, visited the site and met with grieving families. He announced an ex-gratia of ₹10 lakh per deceased student's family, a contractual government job to one family member, and a promise to rebuild the school with classrooms named in memory of the victims, reported The Hindu.

Public reps most trusted link between govt, people: Yogi
Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that public representatives are the most trusted link between the people and the govt and their ideas and suggestions should be actively incorporated in policy planning and implementation. Holding a special dialogue with MLAs from Kanpur division at his official residence here on Sunday, the CM reviewed 1,362 proposed infrastructure projects worth Rs 10,914 crore and said that priorities should be set in consultation with public representatives to ensure swift and people-centric service delivery. Public representatives from six districts — Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Etawah, and Auraiya — were invited to participate in the session. "Ideas and suggestions of public representatives are not merely means of dialogue but also reflect public aspirations, which should be actively incorporated in policy planning and implementation," the CM said. He asked officials not to treat the experiences and regional insights of legislators as merely documentary inputs, but to use them as a living basis for policymaking. The CM directed the public works department (PWD) to set priorities for proposed work in consultation with local representatives and ensure timely commencement of projects. He described the initiatives not merely as govt expenditure but as "capital of public trust". The CM asked officials to ensure prompt approval and execution of projects prioritised by public representatives. He asked the urban development department officials to ensure that the names of local public representatives were included on foundation stones and plaques related to urban development work. Yogi also sought feedback on the ground realities, public expectations, progress of development work, and administrative coordination in their respective constituencies. "Kanpur division holds a vital place in the balanced and sustainable development of the state. It is not only the industrial and educational backbone of the state, but also a centre of cultural diversity, historical awareness, and political commitment of public representatives," Yogi said. Describing the Kanpur division as a "pioneer of development", Yogi expressed confidence that it would soon emerge as a model for not just Uttar Pradesh but for the entire country. Kanpur city is set to be gifted with 426 projects worth Rs 5,006 crore, followed by Farrukhabad (308 projects worth Rs 2,476 crore), Kanpur Dehat (336 projects worth Rs 1,214 crore), Kannauj (98 projects worth Rs 1,076 crore), Etawah (128 projects worth Rs 620 crore), and Auraiya (66 projects worth Rs 524 crore).

AIDWA convention seeks impartial probe into suspicious deaths in Dharmasthala
Demanding impartial probe into the suspicious deaths in and around Dharmasthala, the Dakshina Kannada District Convention of Akhila Bharata Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane on Sunday sought bringing murder cases of Padmalatha, Soujanya, Vedavalli, and Yamuna into the ambit of Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the government to investigate the Dharmasthala burial cases. The 9th convention of the sanghatane (All India Democratic Women's Association) also resolved to urge the government to operate the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses on all feasible routes across the district to extend the benefit of Shakti, free travel scheme, for women. It also resolved to curb communalism; a complete halt of appression against women and other issues. District president Jayanthi B. Shetty hoisted the flag followed by writer Sabitha Bannadi beating the drum for Sara Abubaker Vedike to mark the inauguration of the convention at Bishop Jathanna Auditorium in Balmatta. Ms. Bannadi delivered the keynote address at the convention in the presence of theatre artist Geetha Surathkal, sanghatane State secretary Devi, poet Chandrakala Nandavara, and others. Operate KSRTC buses Deliberating upon the introduction of more KSRTC buses, the convention noted that private buses have the monopoly on majority routes in Dakshina Kannada district. Though KSRTC services were available in rural areas, they offer limited services. The operation of KSRTC buses between taluks and the district headquarters Mangaluru, Moodbidri, Vitla, Mulky, Kadaba, etc., was very less. Even city services from Ullal to Mangaluru and Mulky to Mangaluru, were less, it noted. Consequently, women in Dakshina Kannada district were deprived of the free travel facility that was being availed by women in other parts of the State. The government, the corporation, and the district administration should look into the issue and take measures to operate more KSRTC buses, the convention added.
