As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting and digitally empowering youth, Orange Jordan sponsored the 12th National Technology Parade (NTP), held at Al Hussein Technical University. The festival was first launched in 2007.
The parade aims to foster creativity and innovation among students, encourage collaboration between universities and national and regional institutions, and promote professional ethics, teamwork, and career readiness.
Orange Jordan's sponsorship of this parade reflects its pivotal role in supporting applied education and encouraging students to innovate and create. This aligns with the company's strategy to lead the digital future and empower youth to contribute to sustainable development.
This year, the parade brings together 100 teams comprising around 400 students from various Jordanian universities. Participating in projects cover categories such as green and sustainable technologies, health and biomedical technologies, public safety and quality of life, defense and security technologies, gaming and entertainment, industrial technologies, educational technologies and e-learning solutions, social and business technologies, and innovations serving persons with disabilities.
Orange Jordan is participating in the parade through a dedicated booth for the Orange Digital Center's Fabrication Lab, showcasing Orange's innovative solutions in digital manufacturing. The booth also aims to encourage youth to adopt technology as a tool for development and innovation, in addition to presenting students' previous projects.

China proposes global AI co-operation organisation

China proposed a new global artificial intelligence co-operation organisation amid a patchwork of regulations among countries, as Beijing's competition with the US over the critical technology heats up. Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Saturday called for an international framework to regulate AI as its governance is fragmented, he said at the opening of the annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. 'Global AI governance is still fragmented. Countries have great differences, particularly in terms of areas such as regulatory concepts, institutional rules,' Mr Li said. 'We should strengthen co-ordination to form a global AI governance framework that has broad consensus as soon as possible.' China's proposal comes just days after US President Donald Trump unveiled a three-pillar strategy that his administration refers to as America's AI Action Plan, after much anticipation from US technology companies. Accelerating artificial intelligence innovation, building AI infrastructure in the US and leading in AI diplomacy are the strategy's three main planks. The plan to export US AI technologies, for example through international data centre initiatives, may help the US to gain influence as other countries seek to join the race to provide computational power for AI. Hypothetically, it could also give the US a competitive edge over China, which also aims to be a dominant AI player. Beijing and Washington are locked in a rivalry with AI shaping up as a key battleground between the world's two biggest economies. An 'exclusive game' During the three-day World Artificial Intelligence Conference on Saturday, Mr Li said that AI could become an 'exclusive game' for a few nations and companies. 'Currently, key resources and capabilities are concentrated in a few countries and a few enterprises. If we engage in technological monopoly, controls and restrictions, AI will become an exclusive game for a small number of countries and enterprises,' Mr Li said. Going forward, China will seek to propel AI development in the Global South, Mr Li said, according to a Bloomberg report. China said it is considering Shanghai as the headquarters of the proposed global AI co-operation centre. Ma Zhaoxu, China's Vice Foreign Minister, told a gathering of representatives from more than 30 countries, including Russia, South Africa, Qatar, South Korea and Germany, that China wanted the organisation to promote pragmatic co-operation in AI and was considering putting its headquarters in Shanghai, Reuters reported. China's AI and semi-conductor sectors are showing strong growth, despite US export controls, according to a June report by Jefferies, an investment banking and capital market firm based in New York. Huawei debuts AI computing system At the same conference on Saturday, China's Huawei Technologies showed off an AI computing system, as the technology giant aims to capture market share in the country's growing AI sector. The CloudMatrix 384 system made its first public debut at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. Semiconductor research group SemiAnalysis in April called it "China's Answer to Nvidia GB200 NVL72", the US chipmaker's most advanced system-level product currently available in the market. "This solution competes directly with the GB200 NVL72, and in some metrics is more advanced than Nvidia's rack scale solution. The engineering advantage is at the system level, not just at the chip level, with innovation at the networking, optics, and software layers," SemiAnalysis said in its April report.

Etihad Airways open to recruiting Wizz Air Abu Dhabi employees, says CEO

Etihad Airways is open to hiring employees of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, which announced suspending UAE operations from September 1 and end the joint venture, said a senior official. 'We're totally open (to hire Wizz Air Abu Dhabi employees). We need people. I'm sure that other airlines are also going to try it (to hire Wizz Air Abu Dhabi staff). This is business as usual,' Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, told Khaleej Times in an interview. 'We are hiring a lot. We're open to receiving any airline's resume. We recruit globally,' he said. Around 450 Wizz Air Abu Dhabi employees are in limbo due to the suspension of operations, Bloomberg reported earlier. Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi offered Abu Dhabi employees the opportunity to take another job across the budget carrier's European network. But many employees will find it difficult to migrate to Europe, it reported. The Abu Dhabi-based national carrier has been aggressively expanding its operations, recently announcing seven new routes in July, including Almaty, Kazakhstan; Baku, Azerbaijan; Bucharest, Romania; Medina, Saudi Arabia; Tbilisi, Georgia; Tashkent, Uzbekistan; and Yerevan, Armenia. It has launched or announced 27 new routes in a single year as part of its ambitious growth strategy. 2,500 employees in 2025 Neves was speaking after Etihad Airways took delivery of its first Airbus A321LR (long range) at the Airbus Finkenwerder site in Germany. It will receive these 30 new long-range aircraft over the next few years. According to the Etihad chief, the airline will receive 22 aircraft this year, taking the total size of the fleet to around 200-220 over the next five years. 'This year, we're recruiting 2,500 people. We need to recruit from across the globe. We're going to hire about 350 pilots per year over the next five years and about 1,500 flight attendants every year. We're going to get to about 17,000-18,000 people,' he said. It hired more than 2,000 new employees and promoted more than 1,500, primarily pilots and cabin crew, last year. The fast-growing airline currently employs around 12,000 staff across various divisions. The UAE airlines have been on a hiring spree in the post-pandemic period. Emirates Group, the parent company of Emirates airline, last week announced 17,300 openings in the current financial year.
