Key stats shows how dominant and explosive Derrick Henry can be in Ravens rushing attack

Yahoo3 days ago
The Baltimore Ravens are starting training camp with a high-powered offense featuring top players at key positions.
The team had a historic 2024 season, becoming the first in NFL history to achieve both 40 passing and 20 rushing touchdowns, along with 4,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards. Henry played a key role in those rushing yards, nearly eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark.
Men lie, but numbers don't, and Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus just revealed an eye-popping stat that demonstrates just how explosive and dominant the future Hall of Fame running back can be.
In his first season with the Ravens, Henry rushed for 1,921 yards in 17 regular-season games and scored 16 touchdowns. He also added two scores through the air. Baltimore's success percentage last season, according to Next Gen Stats, was even better when eight or more defenders were near the line of scrimmage (50.9%), compared to a neutral defensive approach (43.4%). Of Henry's 16 rushing touchdowns last season, 14 came against a stacked box.

Marta scores stunner as Brazil retain Copa America

Marta scored two late goals as Brazil defended their Copa America Femenina title with a penalty shootout victory over Colombia. A pulsating final in Quito, Ecuador, saw Colombia take the lead three times only for Brazil to peg them back on each occasion. Real Madrid forward Linda Caicedo gave Colombia a first-half lead with a low, close-range finish, before Angelina equalised from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time. Brazil defender Tarciane scored a bizarre own goal when her attempted back pass went straight past goalkeeper Lorena, before Amanda Gutierres controlled a cross with her chest and volleyed into the bottom corner to level the score once more. Chelsea's Mayra Ramirez thought she had scored a late winner for Colombia, but late substitute Marta rifled in a superb equaliser from long range in the sixth minute of injury time. The 39-year-old retired from international football after Brazil won silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but manager Arthur Elias recalled her to his squad for pre-tournament friendlies in May. Six-time Fifa Player of the Year Marta gave Brazil their first lead of the day midway through extra time when she connected with a teasing cross, only for Colombia midfielder Leicy Santos to curl a free-kick into the top corner and force penalties. Both sides scored four of their opening six penalties - Marta had the chance to win it but saw her effort saved by Katherine Tapia. The shootout went to sudden death with Brazil goalkeeper Lorena saving from Jorelyn Carabali to secure victory. "I think women's soccer has been growing a lot. I think the trend is for it to be more competitive. Everyone here deserved a match like this. Congratulations to Colombia too," Brazil's Amanda Gutierres said. "This means a lot. I think it's Brazil's job - it's that mentality of never giving up. That's a source of pride for Brazil. I think it means a lot to Brazilians."

ESPN ranks Broncos' under age 25 players last in the NFL

ESPN's Aaron Schatz recently ranked all 32 NFL teams based on their players under 25 years old, and the Denver Broncos came in last in the rankings. "The Broncos don't have as much talent under the age of 25 because so many of their players aged out of consideration for this list," Schatz wrote for ESPN. The team has zero "blue-chip players" under 25, at least in Schatz's estimation. Denver's list of players under 25 years old includes All-Pro receiver/returner Marvin Mims, rookie cornerback Jahdae Barron, running back RJ Harvey, pass rusher Jonah Elliss, defensive lineman Sai'vion Jones, running back Jaleel McLaughlin, receiver Pat Bryant, running back Audric Estime and linebacker Levelle Bailey. The players that are 25 years old and therefore ineligible include star cornerback Pat Surtain, quarterback Bo Nix, pass rusher Nik Bonitto, safety Talanoa Hufanga and cornerback Riley Moss. The team's players just over 25 include guard Quinn Meinerz (26) and running back J.K. Dobbins (26). Players like Surtain, Nix, Bonitto and Meinerz aging out of eligibility apparently made the team's ranking dip as the Broncos were ranked 26th last year.
