The Hindu2 days ago
The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday (July 5, 2025) announced a temple renovation and tourism plan to preserve the State's cultural heritage. The initiative includes the rejuvenation of the sites believed to be the ancient ashrams of sages Bhrigu and Durvasa, along with the redevelopment of a prominent Jain temple.
'In a bid to preserve and promote Uttar Pradesh's rich religious and cultural heritage, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has rolled out an ambitious plan for large-scale renovation and tourism development of temples across the State. The initiative includes the rejuvenation of the ancient ashrams of sages Bhrigu and Durvasa, along with the redevelopment of a prominent Jain temple. With a special focus on eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Tourism Department has prepared a detailed roadmap to transform these sacred sites into vibrant centres of heritage tourism,' read a statement from the State government.
The proposed initiative includes beautification of the Udasin Math in Basantpur village, Chitragupt Temple at Bhrigu Ashram in Ballia district, Bhairav Baba sthal in Maharajganj, Durvasa Rishi Ashram in Phulpur Pawai in Azamgarh district, Shri Veera Baba Brahma Sthan in Duari village in Mau district and the Phoolmati Devi Temple in Kannauj district, among others.
The government added that it is focusing on bringing lesser-known ancient temples and pilgrimage sites onto the global tourism map, to add to the State's growth as a major religious tourism hub. In 2024, over 650 million tourists visited various destinations in Uttar Pradesh, including the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
'U.P. under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made the beautification, restoration, and structural strengthening of religious sites a key government priority. These efforts are not only safeguarding Uttar Pradesh's cultural and spiritual heritage but are also promoting local employment, business, and the tourism service industry,' said the State government.

Office demand in top 8 cities may hit record in 2025, gross leasing to cross 90 mn sq ft: C&W

During the January-June period, the gross leasing of office space rose in three cities - Pune, Chennai and Delhi-NCR. (AI image) New Delhi: Gross leasing of office spaces across the top 8 cities is expected to cross 90 million square feet during 2025, beating last year's record demand, according to Cushman & Wakefield. Real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield noted that the Indian office market continues to be in a growth phase after suffering badly during the COVID pandemic. As per the data released by the consultant on Monday, the gross leasing of office space in January-June stood at 41.7 million sq ft across eight major cities as against 41 million sq ft in the year-ago period. "With H1 2025 gross leasing now at about 42 million square feet, the sector is firmly on track to surpass 90 million square feet of annual leasing activity, a new benchmark and a reaffirmation of sustained occupier confidence," Cushman & Wakefield said. In 2024, the gross leasing of office space stood at 89 million square feet across these eight cities. Anshul Jain, Chief Executive, India, SEA & APAC Tenant Representation, Cushman & Wakefield, said India's office market continues to outperform global peers, driven by strong economic growth. "Our forecast of more than 90 million square feet of gross leasing this year reflects the sector's structural strength, particularly as we see sustained growth in sectors like technology, BFSI, and engineering," he said. Jain noted that the GCC (Global Capability Center) segment continues to be a key driver of demand, contributing a record 27 per cent of total leasing in the first six months of this year. The demand from domestic companies, co-working operators is also robust. "As we head into H2, we expect this momentum to continue, buoyed by easing inflation, expected rate cuts, and the continued evolution of India as a strategic business location," Jain said. Veera Babu, Executive Managing Director, Tenant Representation, Cushman & Wakefield, said, "The growth is being fuelled by a convergence of trends, expansion of existing occupiers, rapid scaling of GCCs, and entry of new domestic and global firms." However, he pointed out that office supplies are lagging in core locations, creating a landlord's market. "Occupiers looking for high-quality space need to act early, especially as pre-commitments are on the rise and rentals are climbing in prime market," said Veera Babu. As per the data, the office leasing in Mumbai fell 7 per cent to 8.2 million square feet from 8.8 million square feet. In Delhi NCR, the leasing, however, increased 14 per cent to 7.4 million square feet from 6.5 million square feet. The demand declined in Bengaluru by 20 per cent to 9.8 million square feet from 12.3 million square feet. In Chennai, the office leasing grew 22 per cent to 4.1 million square feet from 3.4 million square feet. The gross leasing of office space surged 67 per cent to 6.8 million square feet from 4.1 million square feet. In Hyderabad, the demand dipped 6 per cent to 4.3 million square feet from 4.6 million square feet. The leasing of workspace in Kolkata declined 22 per cent to 0.8 million square feet from 1 million square feet. In Ahmedabad, the gross leasing of office space fell 33 per cent to 0.2 million square feet during January-June 2025 from 0.3 million square feet in the year-ago period. Commenting on the report, Shesh Rao Paplikar, Founder & CEO, BHIVE Workspaces, said there is a robust demand for high-quality workspaces. The growing demand for managed flexible office space is also driving the leasing activities, he added. Darshan Govindaraju, Executive Director, Vaishnavi Group, said, "The India growth story continues to shine with multi-national corporations continuing to invest heavily to tap into the country's large talent pool, thereby consistently generating demand for Grade A commercial real estate properties."

Gross office space leasing soars 5% in Q2 of 2025: Cushman & Wakefield

Fuelled by the global capability centre (GCC) boom, gross leasing of office space across top eight cities soared 5 per cent to touch 21.4 million square feet (msf) in the second quarter of calendar year 2025, according to Cushman & Wakefield's Q2 India Office Market report. GCCs contributed 24 per cent of Q2 leasing at 5.1 msf, led by Bengaluru and Pune. H1 2025 saw a record 11.4 msf in GCC leasing, driven by IT-BPM and E&M. IT-BPM remained the top occupier with 34 per cent of Q2 demand, followed by flex operators (18 msf) and BFSI and Engineering and Manufacturing sectors. 'The GCC segment continues to be a key driver of demand, contributing a record 27 per cent of total leasing in H1. These centres are maturing in complexity and scale, and India's deep talent pool and improving infrastructure continue to reinforce its positioning as a global hub. At the same time, we are seeing more diverse sources of demand from domestic corporates, financial institutions, and flex players. We expect this momentum to continue, buoyed by easing inflation, expected rate cuts, and the continued evolution of India as a strategic business location,' said Anshul Jain, chief executive, India, SEA & APAC Tenant Representation, Cushman & Wakefield. With total leasing in the first half of the year at approximately 42 million square feet, the sector is on pace to exceed 90 million square feet in annual activity, potentially setting a new record. The strong leasing figures underscore sustained demand from both global and domestic occupiers, led by GCCs, IT-BPM firms, flex space operators, BFSI, and engineering and manufacturing companies. 'India's office market continues to outperform global peers, underpinned by a solid economic outlook and long-term occupier confidence. Our forecast of more than 90 million square feet of gross leasing this year reflects the sector's structural strength, particularly as we see sustained growth in key industries such as technology, BFSI, and engineering,' Jain said. Cushman & Wakefield noted that this momentum builds on 2024's historic performance of approximately 89 million square feet, with H1 2024 figures largely in line with this year's. With continued momentum, 2025 will mark the second consecutive year of over 85 million square feet in gross leasing, signalling the establishment of a new baseline for market performance. In terms of cities, Bengaluru (5.0 msf), Delhi NCR (4.6 msf), and Mumbai (3.9 msf) accounted for approximately 63 per cent of the total quarterly leasing volume. The remaining share came from Pune (3.3 msf), Chennai (2.2 msf), Hyderabad (1.7 msf), Kolkata (0.5 msf), and Ahmedabad (0.2 msf). Furthermore, net absorption reached 13.5 msf in Q2 2025, up 19 per cent year-on-year, totalling 27.8 million square feet in H1. Delhi NCR, Pune, and Chennai recorded their highest-ever half-yearly absorption, signalling strong long-term occupier confidence. Fresh leases made up 77 per cent of H1 2025 activity, continuing a trend since 2022. Pre-commitments rose to 10 per cent, indicating tightening supply and rising occupier urgency. On the supply side, India's top eight office markets recorded 12.5 msf of new completions in Q2, marking a 53 per cent year-on-year and 17 per cent quarter-on-quarter rise. H1 2025 supply totalled 23.2 msf, a 14 per cent increase year-on-year, with Bengaluru and Pune accounting for over 60 per cent. Pune led with 4.8 msf in Q2, its highest half-year supply to date. 'The growth is being fuelled by a convergence of trends, expansion of existing occupiers, rapid scaling of GCCs, and entry of new domestic and global firms. But supply is lagging in core locations, creating a landlord's market. Occupiers looking for high-quality space need to act early, especially as pre-commitments are on the rise and rentals are climbing in prime markets,' said Veera Babu, Executive Managing Director, Tenant Representation, Cushman & Wakefield.

Avic Chengdu share price trades lower as Middle East tensions fizzle out; more pain ahead?

Avic Chengdu share price: Shares of J-10 fighter jet maker Avic Chengdu have been caught in a range since the tensions in the Middle East fizzled out with the Iran-Israel ceasefire coming into effect late last month. At the peak of the Iran-Israel tensions, Avic Chengdu Aircraft's share price had risen to 90.30 yuan. But since then the Chinese defence stock has lost over 8% of its value as of today, July 7. From a technical perspective, too, Avic Chengdu stock has seen failed attempts to break out, thus weakening the sentiment in the stock, as per an expert. While the J-10 fighter jet maker's stock initially rallied on the news amid a relief rally in Chinese stocks following the ease in Middle East tensions, the stock soon took a backseat. The shares of Avic Chengdu had caught the limelight during the peak of the India-Pakistan conflict, when the latter had deployed Chinese-made J-10 fighter jets against India. In the last five sessions, Avic Chengdu share price has declined in four sessions, barring Friday (July 4). For the month, the Chinese defence stock is down 5%, taking a breather after a 14.5% rally in June and 31% gains in March. According to Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investments, AVIC Chengdu has seen two failed breakout attempts and is still shaping a VCP (volatility contraction pattern) on the daily charts, now spanning 33 days. The repeated failures and weakening volume pattern are red flags for bulls, he added. "Only a sustained move above 95 can revive bullish momentum and attract fresh buying interest. On the flip side, any close below 75 will likely trigger a breakdown, opening the way for the stock to drift towards the 60 level," Jain said, while telling investors to exercise caution at the current juncture.
