Josh McPake gets a hat-trick as St Johnstone make a flying start
Patrick Reading fired Thistle into an early lead but their joy proved short-lived as Jamie Gullan levelled and McPake struck twice before the interval.
McPake put the result beyond doubt when he completed his treble early in the second half and Stevie Mallan wrapped up the scoring with a fine free-kick eight minutes from time.
The intriguing clash between Billy Davies' Morton and Neil Lennon's Dunfermline at Cappielow Park ended in a goalless draw.
Former Derby and Nottingham Forest boss Davies, the recently appointed technical head coach of the Greenock club, was in the dugout for the first time in Scottish football since 2001 as manager Dougie Imrie missed the match for personal reasons.
He was unable to get one over former Celtic manager Lennon, whose Pars side had the better of a feisty affair that saw both bosses booked.
Euan Henderson scored twice as Airdrieonians powered back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Ross County at the Albert Bartlett Stadium.
Two headers from corners in each half from Akil Wright had put the visitors on course for what seemed a routine victory.
Henderson began the fightback just after the hour and then equalised from a free-kick 16 minutes from time.
Raith Rovers and Queen's Park also had to settle for a point apiece after their encounter at Stark's Park ended 1-1.
It was a game of two penalties with Michael Ruth netting from the spot for the visitors after 10 minutes and Dylan Easton doing likewise for the hosts nine minutes from time.

The 24-year-old has delighted his dad by joining his hometown team Canadian Cale Loughrey says his dad is 'pumped' that he has joined his hometown team on an amateur contract - and the defender hopes it puts him on the Scottish football map. The 24-year-old centre-back has come to Accies' rescue amid their transfer embargo, giving up professional terms to sign a season-long amateur deal. One of three amateur signings brought in by boss John Rankin ahead of Saturday's 2-0 win over Montrose in their League One opener, he joins winger Idris Munir and midfielder Mikey Stone in the squad. Loughrey was playing in the Romania second tier earlier this year and arrives at Accies looking to make a name for himself. His dad Stephen hails from Hamilton and Loughrey says he is just delighted to be playing in Scottish football. Loughrey said: "My dad is pumped. With all the complications of the embargo, it is stressful for them at home because all they want is for it to work out. They know the time I have invested in this. "He will be coming over here soon as well because we have family over here. "They are all happy and I was just texting them after the game. "I was over in Romania most recently but there were some complications there that meant that didn't work out. "I have always wanted to come over to Scotland because my dad was born here, I have a [British] passport and the football is good here. "My agent is good friends with John and I started pre-season here. It was a hard trial process - it's never easy being on trial - but I am just glad it all worked out. Even with the embargo, we got things sorted. "For me, I just wanted the opportunity to play. I love the ideas the gaffer has and in the month that I have been here, I have loved the football that I have been playing. "To me, yes I am dropping down a level from a professional, but this is an opportunity to play football and, come next year, I think it will all be worth it." Loughrey enjoyed an impressive debut at Broadwood, winning almost everything thrown at him in the air and looking composed in possession. And his initial impressions, have been in amongst the squad throughout pre-season, is that they can still be a force in League One. But he revealed he would prefer to play fewer games in the sunshine. He added: "Of course it is going to be a challenge, but I think we will be okay. Our goal in the changing room is to get promotion and everyone believes that. The more we continue to perform, score goals and keep clean sheets, it will just become a habit for us. "I think our team is still a Championship level team and I have been really enjoying the football here. "It was a hard first game in the sun. I hate playing in the sun and the one sunny day we get here, we have a game. "But it is a huge win for us and it shows our supporters what we can do. This is all we can control and all we can do is play for them." On the new signing, boss Rankin said: "Cale has come in from Canada and spent a bit of time in Romania. "His family are actually from Hamilton and he is looking to showcase his talents in the UK. That is an opportunity that we are prepared to give him. He gives us a good balance in that backline. "I thought he was a monster today and I am delighted to get him in. It helps us in an area we need help in."

Motherwell star is happy to be in the dark about St Mirren
Elijah Just says he can't over-think about an opponent if he doesn't know much about them Elijah Just knows absolutely nothing about St Mirren – and reckons that could work in his and Motherwell's favour. Just and his team-mates travel to Paisley on Saturday to tackle the Saints, looking to build on their 1-1 draw at home to Rangers on Saturday evening. The 25-year-old New Zealander says being in the dark about their opponents might help. Just, who signed a two-year deal from Danish side Horsens last month, said: 'I'm sure a lot of the lads are quite familiar with St Mirren and the players, but I'm new, so I don't know too much. 'To be honest, I think that works in my favour – I just go into the game not thinking, or over-thinking, just playing my game, and getting stuck in.' Just has impressed since his arrival in ML1, and played a key role in Saturday's draw against Rangers. The midfielder reckons being brave on the ball is playing a major part in their success so far. Just said: 'That was really enjoyable, against a team like Rangers, who have a lot of quality. 'There were times when I was just watching the centre-backs just try and play, they were so courageous. 'When we play them in the first game it's really important that we try to apply ourselves in the way the manager wants us to play, and I think we did a really good job. 'The boys were really courageous, and it was a step in the right direction. We know that if we play with that style we'll create chances and we'll be a good side. 'Where I play, in the middle, it can be tough, but especially at the back, inside out own goal box. That takes a lot of courage, and we were brave on the ball. 'It was very intense, the fans were loud, the pitch was really good, and when I went out to warm up, I thought 'this is proper football' – but when the game got going, I started to feel good and comfortable.' Just says there wasn't much said at half-time, as Motherwell stepped up pressure on Rangers in the second period. He said: 'We made a few small adjustments at half-time, but it was more or less keep doing what we're doing, try to limit the turnovers, and be really smart on the ball. 'As the game went on and we didn't have the equaliser, and there were a few chances, you start to think 'we really need something here'. 'When the goal went in, we pushed on and had another two chances at the end, so we're really happy.' Just is chasing a place in New Zealand's team at the 2026 World Cup, and reckons Motherwell is a good place to show what he can do. He said: 'Personally, it's really important. It's one year to the World Cup and I want to put myself in the best possible position in the national team. 'So I hope I can get a good run of games, and play well, and see what happens. 'I hope I'll be involved next summer. This current group of players we have with the national team are really strong, who are playing all around the world, so competition is really high. 'If I can do well in the Premiership this year, that gives me the best opportunity to play. 'That's a real driver for this move. It's a massive motivation for me, to be in that World Cup squad. There are a lot of players in my position, who are playing in really good clubs around the world, so this is a massive opportunity for me.'
