Lenox Township man accused of drugging, sexually assaulting woman he met on dating app
Charles Fouts Jr., 67, of Lenox Township, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, using a computer to commit a crime and capturing and distributing an image of an unclothed person.
On July 19, deputies responded to a Fort Gratiot apartment complex after a woman came to a neighbor's residence disoriented and saying that she had been drugged and sexually assaulted, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Deputies later discovered that photos were taken of the victim without her knowledge and related to the alleged assault.
When investigators arrived at the apartment complex, they found Fouts still at the scene. He was interviewed and arrested.
Fouts was arraigned Tuesday and denied bond.
The sheriff's office believes there may be more victims and is searching for additional ones.

Police investigating deadly stabbing inside Brooklyn deli
Police are investigating a disturbing altercation at a Brooklyn deli that led to a worker being stabbed to death. Officers responded to the New York Deli and Mini Market at the corner of Hegeman and Van Siclen avenues in East New York just after 3 p.m. Friday. Sandoval-Nava's friends and colleagues were overcome with grief Friday night. "He would help other people outside, making sure they were doing OK, like feeding them, feed them food or something," a friend named Andy said. "Workers here, they'll be friendly with the people in the neighborhood, so it's definitely a surprise," Shakeima Clemente said. This fatal stabbing is the latest in a series of incidents raising concerns over security at the city's delis and bodegas. "They know who the person is, they're on his heels, and believe me, he will be caught and he will put in jail," said Fernando Mateo, with the United Bodegas of America.

Upland police officer makes arrest after chasing hit-and-run suspect on pedestrian's horse
An Upland Police Department officer made a unique arrest on Monday, chasing a hit-and-run suspect on horseback after they fled into a nearby equestrian center. Police were dispatched to Campus Avenue and 21st Street a little before 5 p.m. after learning of a hit-and-run crash in the area, according to an Instagram post shared by the department. "The victim was stopped at a stop sign when a minivan slammed into her, causing back and neck injuries," the post said. "The driver of the minivan got out, never checked on the person he hit, and fled into a nearby equestrian center." Arriving officers established a search perimeter, and with the help of a K9 officer and drones began to search the center and the surrounding area. "As one of our motors walked the property, a horse was offered to him by on-site staff," the post said. They said that the officer just so happened to ride horses on the weekend and was well-experienced. "So the horse was called to service," the post said. After about 30 minutes, a K9 unit found the suspect hiding in the bushes. He was taken into custody after surrendering, police said. He was found to be driving under the influence and booked on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and felony hit-and-run, according to UPD. "The suspect not only had a lengthy criminal history, but had 8 ... prior convictions for DUI and had a suspended license for DUI," police said. The suspect has not yet been identified and it's unclear if the victim required hospitalization following the crash.

26 dogs removed from Chicago Lawn home amid animal cruelty investigation
More than two dozen dogs were removed from a home on Friday in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, after police responded to a report of animal cruelty. Police said officers were called to a home in the 3300 block of West 65th Place around 4:30 p.m. for a report of animal cruelty, and found multiple dogs in the back yard and garage. At least one of the dogs was injured. Chicago Animal Care and Control officials confirmed 26 dogs were removed from a home. Officials said the situation would place an additional strain on the city's animal shelter, which is already near capacity. In July, the city's animal shelter took in an average of more than 50 cats and dogs per day. "While animals involved in this case will not be immediately available, we have hundreds of other pets currently waiting for loving homes. Adoption fees are waived for the entire month of August, and we encourage the public to visit the shelter. For those unable to adopt, fostering is also a vital way to help, and we work with multiple rescue partners who offer foster programs," a Chicago Animal Care and Control spokesperson said. "We appreciate the public's continued support and compassion for the animals in our care." Area 1 detectives were conducting an investigation into the animal cruelty allegations.
